T HE ORDER OF MASS

THE INTRODUCTORY RITES

GREETING
1|The Order of the Mass
✠In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy
Spirit.
- Amen.
The Lord be with you.
- And with your spirit.

PENITENTIAL ACT
Brethren (brothers and sisters), let us acknowledge our sins, and
so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
A brief pause for silence follows. Then all recite together the formula of general confession:
I confess to almighty God
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned,
in my thoughts and in my words,
in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,
And, striking their breast, they say:
through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous
fault;
therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and
Saints,
and you, my brothers and sisters,
to pray for me to the Lord our God.
May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins,
and bring us to everlasting life.
- Amen.
V. Lord, have mercy. R. Lord, have mercy.
V. Christ, have mercy. R. Christ, have mercy.
V. Lord, have mercy. R. Lord, have mercy.
Let us pray.

2|The Order of the Mass

Grant us, Lord our God, that we may honor you with all our mind,
and love everyone in truth of heart. Through our Lord Jesus Christ,
your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
- Amen

THE LITURGY OF THE WORD

READING
First Book of Kings (2:1-4, 10-12)

When the time of David's death drew near, he gave these

instructions to his son Solomon: "I am going the way of all mankind.
Take courage and be a man. Keep the mandate of the LORD, your
God, following his ways and observing his statutes, commands,
ordinances, and decrees as they are written in the law of Moses, that
you may succeed in whatever you do, wherever you turn, and the
LORD may fulfill the promise he made on my behalf when he said, 'If
your sons so conduct themselves that they remain faithful to me with
their whole heart and with their whole soul, you shall always have
someone of your line on the throne of Israel.'
David rested with his ancestors and was buried in the City of
David.
The length of David's reign over Israel was forty years: he reigned
seven years in Hebron and thirty-three years in Jerusalem. When
Solomon was seated on the throne of his father David, with his
sovereignty firmly established,

The word of the Lord.

- Thanks be to God.
RESPONSORIAL PSALM
(1 Chronicles 29:10. 11ab, 11d-12a, 12bcd)

LORD, YOU ARE EXALTED OVER ALL

3|The Order of the Mass
“Blessed may you be, O Lord, God of Israel
our father, from eternity to eternity.” (R)

“Yours, O Lord, are grandeur and power,

Majesty, splendor, and glory.” (R)

“Lord, you are exalted over all.

Yours, O Lord, is the sovereignty;
You are exalted as head over all.
Riches and honor are from you.” (R)

“In your hand are power and might;

it is yours to give grandeur and strength to all.” (R)

ALLELUIA

The Lord be with you.

- And with your spirit.

✠ A reading from the holy Gospel according to St. Mark (6:7-13)

- Glory to you, O Lord.

Jesus summoned the Twelve and began to send them out

two by two and gave them authority over unclean spirits. He
4|The Order of the Mass
instructed them to take nothing for the journey but a walking stick -
no food, no sack, no money in their belts. They were, however, to
wear sandals but not a second tunic. He said to them, "Wherever
you enter a house, stay there until you leave from there. Whatever
place does not welcome you or listen to you, leave there and
shake the dust off your feet in testimony against them." So they
went off and preached repentance.
The twelve drove out many demons, and they anointed with oil
many who were sick and cured them.

The Gospel of the Lord

- Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ

(Offertory Song)
THE LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST

Pray, brethren (brothers and sisters), that my sacrifice and yours

may be acceptable to God, the almighty Father.
- May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the
praise and glory of his name, for our good, and the
good of all his holy Church.

PRAYER OVER THE OFFERINGS

O Lord, we bring to your altar these offerings of our service:
be pleased to receive them, we pray, and transform them into the
Sacrament of our redemption. Through Christ our Lord.

6|The Order of the Mass

- Amen

The Lord be with you.

- And with your spirit.

Lift up your hearts.

- We lift them up to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

- It is right and just.

COMMON PREFACE III

It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and
everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, holy Father, almighty and
eternal God, through Christ our Lord.
For just as through your beloved Son, you created the
human race, so also through him with great goodness you formed
it anew.
And so, it is right that all your creatures serve you, all
redeemed praise you, and all your Saints with one heart bless
you. Therefore, we, too, extol you with all the Angels as in joyful
celebration we acclaim:

(Song: Sanctus…)

THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER

Eucharistic Prayer II
7|The Order of the Mass
You are indeed Holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness.
Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray,
by sending down your Spirit upon them like the dewfall,
so that they may become for us
the Body and (†) Blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

At the time he was betrayed

and entered willingly into his Passion,
he took bread and, giving thanks, broke it,
and gave it to his disciples, saying:
TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND EAT OF IT,
FOR THIS IS MY BODY,
WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU.
In a similar way, when supper was ended,
he took the chalice
and, once more giving thanks,
he gave it to his disciples, saying:

TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND DRINK FROM IT,

FOR THIS IS THE CHALICE OF MY BLOOD,
THE BLOOD OF THE NEW AND ETERNAL COVENANT,
WHICH WILL BE POURED OUT FOR YOU AND FOR MANY
FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS.
DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.

The mystery of faith.

(Song: Acclamation…)

Therefore, as we celebrate
8|The Order of the Mass
the memorial of his Death and Resurrection,
we offer you, Lord,
the Bread of life and the Chalice of salvation,
giving thanks that you have held us worthy
to be in your presence and minister to you.

Humbly we pray that, partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ,

we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.

Remember, Lord, your Church,

spread throughout the world,
and bring her to the fullness of charity,
together with Francis our Pope and Jose our Bishop
and all the clergy.

Remember also our brothers and sisters

who have fallen asleep in the hope of the Resurrection,
and all who have died in your mercy:
welcome them into the light of your face.
Have mercy on us all, we pray,
that with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God,
with Blessed Joseph, her Spouse,
with the blessed Apostles,
and all the Saints who have pleased you throughout the ages,
we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life,
and may praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ.

Through him, and with him, and in him,

O God, almighty Father,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory and honor is yours,
9|The Order of the Mass
for ever and ever.
- Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER

At the Saviour’s command
and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:

(Song: Pater Noster…)

Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil,

graciously grant peace in our days,
that, by the help of your mercy,
we may be always free from sin
and safe from all distress,
as we await the blessed hope
and the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

(Song: For the kingdom…)

INVITATION TO PEACE
Lord Jesus Christ,
who said to your Apostles:
Peace I leave you, my peace I give you;
look not on our sins,
but on the faith of your Church,
and graciously grant her peace and unity
in accordance with your will.
Who live and reign for ever and ever.
- Amen.
10 | T h e O r d e r o f t h e M a s s
The peace of the Lord be with you always.
- And with your spirit.

Let us offer each other the sign of peace.

BREAKING OF THE BREAD

(Song: Agnus Dei)

INVITATION TO COMMUNION
Behold the Lamb of God,
behold him who takes away the sins of the world.
Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.
- Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my
roof,
but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

Nourished by these redeeming gifts, we pray, O Lord, that
through this help to eternal salvation true faith may ever increase.
Through Christ our Lord.
- Amen.
