1: Guarantee
1.1: Check the whole system at delivery.

Should any part be missing or damaged it is important to inform the

forwarding agent and PREFERRED PACKAGING ITALY before the
forwarding agent leaves the company after delivery. The forwarding
agent must indicate any missing or damaged parts on the waybill .
Failure to do this will result in the impossibility of presenting any claim
against the forwarding agent or PREFERRED PACKAGING ITALY.

If any part is believed to be missing or damaged, we recommend

informing the forwarding agent and PREFERRED PACKAGING ITALY
immediately and request an inspection. This is mandatory. The damage
report must be submitted within ten days from the delivery date. The
forwarding agent will not accept any claim for loss or damage after this
period. The forwarding agent's representative will carry out an
inspection and make a drawing of the damages. The client can give the
forwarding agent a receipt which clearly states that during transport
some parts were damaged or went missing, but does so at his own risk
and cost.

Any claim must be submitted within 30 days from the delivery date.
After this period the forwarding agent will not accept any claim.

PREFERRED PACKAGING ITALY is willing to assist in any possible way

in order to collect claims for loss or damage; nevertheless PREFERRED
PACKAGING ITALY declines any responsibility in relation to material
replacement

1.2: Guarantee

Preferred Packaging Italy guarantees each product against material

and manufacturing defects for 1 year from the shipment date.

This guarantee cannot be transferred in case of sale.

Any faulty part covered by the guarantee must be sent to PREFERRED

PACKAGING ITALY, at the expense of the client.
In the case of a warranty claim, Preferred Packaging reserves the right
to decide whether to repair or replace the part. The manpower
required to remove or install the faulty part is not included in the
guarantee. Before returning the goods for whatever reason, the client
must contact PREFERRED PACKAGING to obtain a returned-good
number. This number must always be mentioned in the return
shipments.

This guarantee is not applicable should the material be tampered with,

improperly used or installed, changed or should it evidence damages
caused by misuse, negligence, accidents or failure to follow the
recommended maintenance procedure, or should maintenance
operations have been carried out by third parties without express
written authorization from PREFERRED PACKAGING ITALY.

This guarantee replaces any other guarantee. Other guarantees

regarding marketability, suitability to a specific use, non violation or
other, and no matter whether explicit or implicit, will not be
considered.
Preferred Packaging declines any responsibility toward any persons for
direct, indirect, additional or substantial damages, in addition to delays
due to any breach or illicit action, with suspension of claims regarding
a prosecutable damage or negligence and/or objective responsibility.
Should our responsibility be ascertained, no amount higher than the
purchase price will be paid.
Preferred Packaging reserves the right to make changes, integrations
or improvements to its products without being obliged to make the
same changes to previously delivered products that are covered by this
guarantee.
PREFERRED PACKAGING
STAR EVO USER MANUAL

Page 6

Preferred Packaging declines any responsibility for damages deriving

from the use of the material in case the client or its representative fails
to maintain the goods in safe operating conditions. This guarantee is
void if the client or its agent disconnect any safety device or part which
was developed or fitted by our company, or in case they fail to
maintain these systems in such a way as to use them as
recommended.

Preferred Packaging gives a 1-year guarantee on parts;

shipping costs for replacement parts are not included. All parts
covered by the guarantee are sent F.O.B. Malo-Vicenza, Italy.
The manpower required for the installation of parts is not
included in the guarantee.

1.4: Warnings

All the appropriate measures were taken in order to guarantee

operator safety during machine operation. Nevertheless, some risks are
present. Do not start the machine unless the staff has been informed
of the following warnings.

Do not tamper with the electrical wiring. Only employ an authorized

electrician to carry out any maintenance operation. Always disconnect
the machine from the power source before carrying out any
maintenance operation on electronic and/or moving parts.

To avoid injuries to people and/or damage to the machine, we

recommend not increasing the settings or classifications on the
electrical or mechanical safety devices.

Keep hands away from moving parts or conveyor belts.

Impaired or worn conveyor belts can be dangerous. All such parts must
be replaced immediately.

Never operate any moving part without the necessary protection. The
internal mechanism of most packaging machines contains various
sharp parts and points where the risk of crushing exists, which can
cause serious injuries and/or permanent disfiguration.

To reduce the possibility of injuries to a minimum, we recommend

making sure that all machine operators and any person using it in any
way have been trained in correct machine and are aware of the relative
safety procedures.

After it has been used for a while, the sealing bar and all the relative
parts can become hot. Do not touch the machine while the bar is
operating and pay special attention after it has just stopped running.
PREFERRED PACKAGING
STAR EVO USER MANUAL

Page 8

Any modification to the electrical diagram or to the mechanical

assembly of the machine renders any guarantee void. Modifications can
entail dangers which would otherwise not be present. Preferred
Packaging declines any responsibility for any consequence deriving
from the above.

The use of certain types of film during sealing and/or heat-shrinking

operations can generate dangerous vapours. This is due to film
degradation at high temperatures. Contact the film manufacturer or
supplier before using any film in order to obtain information on the
emission of potentially dangerous vapours. Ensure adequate ventilation
at all times.

The operator must disable the primary switch once the unit has been
started.

Even though the machine features protections for operators, it is still

necessary to pay attention when using, adjusting or carrying out
maintenance operations on the machine itself.
Refer to the guarantee covering this machine.
The guarantee conditions are only applicable to unmodified machines.
Any unauthorized modifications made to the machine will render this
guarantee void.

2: Machine installation

2.1: Removing the packaging

Do not use sharp tool when removing the packaging.
Remove the film and the adhesive tape around the machine.
The adjustable feet, the sliding door and the film drawer are held in
position by wooden blocks. Carefully remove them before moving the
machine from the pallet.
Once the machine has been taken off the pallet, remove the strips that
block the infeed conveyor and the film drawer.
Before installing the machine remove the protective film from the
screens

2.2: Positioning and alignment

First of all, position the machine in the desired location, making sure
that the front conveyor is correctly aligned. In order to find the correct
position compared to the conveyor, move the machine's infeed
conveyor all the way back.
You know know the maximum conveyor position and it is possible to
place the front conveyor.
After this, use the adjustment feel to level the machine. For this
purpose, use a bubble level on the central conveyor and bring it to the
correct level.
Once the machine is correctly levelled and aligned, position the tunnel
or the outfeed unit.

2.3: Power supply

All the machines of this series are fitted with a buck-boost transformer.
This system allows to eliminate any problem that may arise because of
low voltage and to disable the machine.
The machines are supplied with 3 x 380V + N + PE as standard.
Before connecting the machine to the power source, verify such
voltage on the power connector.
Before operating the machine, check the voltage and make sure the
earthing system is appropriately sized. Earth-test each phase, making
sure there are from 220 to 240 V to earth.
Check the rotation direction against the height adjustment of the
sealing unit (see 5.6 - page 59).

2.4: Connecting compressed air

Check the compressed air line to make sure that the machine is fed
clean and dry air.
The presence of water in the pipes can damage the machine. If
necessary, install a dryer on the air line to convey clean and dry air to
the machine.
The pressure in the machine must be at 6 bar at all times.
The compressed air consumption depends on the options of the
machine. Please find hereunder the consumption per option.
- Sealing bar pneumatic consumption: 150 Nl/min at 6 bar
- Air bridge consumption connection: 30 Nl/min at 6 bar
- Side sealing: 25 Nl/min at 6 bar
- Film pulling: 1 Nl/min at 6 bar

Connecting compressed air

The standard connection is

located at the front of the
machine.
It is composed of a PU10
female connector for
compressed air tube.
Carry out a proper
connection, keeping a 2-
metre reserve.

2.5: Starting the machine

The machine must always be started by a competent technician who is
familiar with the electrical and compressed air systems installed on the
machine.
Any mistake during the starting phase can cause irreversible
consequences. For this reason we recommend contacting one of
PREFERRED PACKAGING ITALY technicians for this phase.

27: Detection modes

From here it is possible to select Multipack and Random
Multipack:
The machine only detects the beginning of the product and therefore
conveys the "product length" + the "intermediate distance" set,
regardless of the actual length of the product.
This option is selected for products that have the same length, so that
the length of the film is always the same, regardless of any small
slipping, in order to obtain the best heat-shrinking.
In this mode the products can be positioned in contact with each other.
It is sufficient to always select products in contact or always with an
intermediate distance.
The photocell must always read the product at the same instant, and
any different shapes may cause a problem.
Random:
The machine detects the length and travels the set "intermediate
distance".
This setting is used for products having different lengths.
The product must be at a minimum intermediate distance of 50 mm.
The photocell must read the whole length.

28: Product length

This length must be set in multiple "detection mode" only. This is the
actual length of the product.

29: Intermediate distance

The distance the machine travels after the product to carry out the
sealing must be set here.
The basic value consists in the height of the product + 30 mm and it
varies depending on the heigh of the product; in the case of short
products, the value increases slightly, for tall products it decreases
slightly.
If the print pane command is present (for use with printed film), press
the "intermediate distance" label. The label changes into "print pane"
and this setting is used to set the position of the product compared to
the print.
If this function is set and no print marking is visible in front of the print
pane photocell or if it is not present, the machine will not seal or will
seal in the wrong position.

the machine for the first time.
If the machine is too loaded toward the left, reduce the value and
move the product toward the sealing.
If the machine is too loaded toward the right, increase the value and
remove the product from the film.
Repeat this operation until the machine seals the product at
approximately half of the "intermediate distance" of the product.
Insert the next product and set the value so that the sealing bar seals
halfway between two products.
If the value "<-10" has been set and one has to move 30 mm to the
right the value will be "->20" and vice versa.

Make sure that during the insertion of the film, the transfers or the
sealing operations the product does not move otherwise it will be
impossible to obtain a correct adjustment.

Pay attention to the fact that in case of machine on the left, the above
picture must be considered on the left, on the right and vice versa.

31: Sealing time

This is the time during which the sealing bar remains lowered to obtain
a safe sealing. A longer interval does not produce a better sealing,
therefore, should any problem arise or if the closing time is not known,
we recommend starting at 10 and increase by 5 units until a proper
sealing is obtained.

32: Feeding speed

This value can be set from 5 to 25 metres.
The best speed is the speed at which there is a constant flow of
products at a distance of approximately 50 mm from each other.
In the case of a longer distance, we advise reducing the speed.
If the output is too low, it is possible to increase the speed.
A higher speed can entail bigger movements.

33: Opening the sealing bar

This setting is available only on electrically powered machines.
Adjust this value so that the products are comfortably under the bar
and, if using the bridge, the lower bar must be under the conveyor.

34: Individual conveyor belts

Enable this function to run the machine as if it were a conveyor belt
(without film). Make sure the film is outside the sealing rollers before
enabling this function. When start is pressed the conveyors start
operating.

36: Photocell selection

Select between the horizontal and vertical photocell.
Depending on the shape of the product it is possible to choose the
photocell that ensures the most constant detection.
In case of thin products, in most cases the vertical photocell is the best
choice, while for products which are close to each other, it is best to
use the horizontal one.

37: Bridge
This function allows processing products which remain still or that are
moved when the sealing bar passes.
If this function is enabled, this passage closes during feeding and
opens during sealing.
If the product allows working without this function, it is best to
deactivate it in order to reduce the cycle time.
Make sure that the sealing bar opening is wide enough so that the
lower sealing bar is not under the conveyor.

38: Restarting the sealing bar before the end of the cycle
If the sealing bar is in a higher position - in the case of a tall product -
the time necessary to pass this piece is reduced, and this restarts the
sealing bar before the end of the feeding cycle.
In this way, the feeding is paired to the sealing bar movement, thus
allowing to eliminate loss of seconds.
The value set here indicates the length of the packaging in percentage,
which brings forward the closing of the sealing bar.
In the case of a 200 mm long product, by setting the 10% value, the
sealing bar will start lowering in the last 20 mm of feeding distance.
Set the value so that the sealing bar does not hinder the product
during feeding.
If the sealing is carried out at the beginning of the following cycle, the
acceleration of the sealing bar may not be used. If one wants to use it,
reduce the intermediate speed so that the sealing cycle is carried out
at the end of the cycle.

39: Sealing bar waiting time during the cycle

In the case of normal cycle the conveyors stop, the sealing bar closes
and lifts all the way up and the cycle is restarted.
By setting a value here, the cycle restarts once the set time has
elapsed after the opening of the sealing bar.
Therefore, if the sealing bar opening time is 1 sec and a value of 0.5
sec is set, the gain is 0.5 sec per cycle. This is due to the fact that the
machine normally restarts when the sealing bar is completely open and
0.5 sec after the sealing bar starts to open.
Make sure the product does not come into contact with the sealing bar
at the beginning of the restarting cycle.

40: Starting the outfeed conveyor during waiting time

In normal condition the outfeed conveyor only starts when the sealing
bar is completely open.
By setting a time here, the outfeed conveyor starts before the bar is
completely open.
The principle is the same as the one applied for function 39.
Therefore, by setting a time of 0.5 sec, the outfeed conveyor starts 0.5
sec after the sealing bar begins to open.
By setting 0.6 sec in function 39, the first outfeed conveyor is started,
followed by the central one and then the sealing bar opens completely.

41: Stopping the outfeed conveyor before sealing

In normal conditions, with tall products, the film is subjected to a lot of
stress, as it is stretched between the two products.

By setting a value equal to half the height, the outfeed conveyor stops
a little faster and the film bends slightly, thus decreasing the tension a
little.

42: Duration of the outfeed conveyor cycle

This is the time during which the outfeed conveyor keeps running once
the cycle is over.
If during this time the next product arrives, the time is interrupted.
This function is useful when the product stops right at the edge of the
tunnel. Increasing this value increases the conveyor's operation time.

43: Outfeed conveyor speed

This parameter allows accelerating or decelerating the outfeed and
central conveyors. It is thus possible to increase the tension of the film
for light products or decrease it for heavy products.

after 100,000 pieces it is necessary to carry out a general maintenance
operation, the machine stops after the set value and a "counter value

For an ideal heat-shrinking it is necessary perforate the packaging so

that the air exits the package during the heat-shrinking phase.
It is possible to perforate by loosening the screw 1 and pressing
against the roller; a light pressure creates small holes, a heavier one
creates large holes.
Depending on the packaging it might be necessary to make one, two
or three holes.
The location can be determined autonomously by moving the
perforation along the axle.
The location depends on the product, but the best position is generally
in the centre.
