Goals
• What is a goal?
– Something you would
like to achieve.

• What is the purpose

of setting goals?
– Goals give you
direction and keep
you focused on
where you want to
end up.
Types of Goals
• Short-Term:
– Goals that can be
accomplished in the
near future (within a
few weeks or months)

• Long-Term:
– Goals that are more
far-reaching and take
longer to achieve (a
year or more)
Types of Goals
• Fixed:
– Goals with an
outcome that is
based on a specific
date/time

• Flexible:
– Goals that have an
outcome, but no
time limit
Each Goal Must Be SMART
• Accomplishing goals takes
focus; what are the most
important goals that you will
accomplish in 2014
• Too many, and too big, goals
will bury you
• Too few, or too small, goals
will
not challenge you
• What is the perfect mix for
you
to insure your success?
Each Goal Must Be SMART
What are Smart
Goals?
– Specific
– Measurable
– Attainable
– Relevant
– Time bound
SMART Means Specific
• What is Specific?
– Run a Marathon in Less
than 4 hours
– Earn $10K More
– Pass 4 College Courses
with an ‘A’ Grade
– Get Waist Size Down to
32 inches
– 5K New Customers
SMART Means Measurable
What is Measurable?
– Know your starting point
– Know your ending point
– Know what your goals
are for the year, then
break it down to
quarterly and monthly
– Make a Plan For Your
Success
– Track Your Progress;
Write down results, take
pictures, take notes on
a set schedule
SMART Means Attainable
What is Attainable?
– You must be realistic with
your goals; losing 10 Kg per
week is not realistic, losing
2 Kg is realistic
– Make the goal challenging
– Make the goal something
that you are passionate
about
– Keep learning more, and
new,
– ways to accomplish your
goal
SMART Means Relevant
Make Goals Relevant
– Exercising 5 days per
week for 1 hour each
day is relevant
– 100 new subscribers per
month is relevant
– Redecorating your
office is not relevant to
business growth
– Wanting a new blue
BMW 328i Sedan is not
relevant, it is not a
goal, it is a reward for a
goal achieved
SMART Means Time bound
• Make Goals Time
bound
– Each goal needs an
exact date that you
plan on accomplishing
the goal
– Break down the goal
into attainable steps
along the way;
quarterly, monthly
– Track your progress;
know where you are
and are going
