It is wrong to doubt or question gospel doctrines, or is

it a normal part of developing a testimony?

Pamela Suarez.

In February 2016, elder David A. Bernard performed a talk to missionaries from South America

Missions (Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay), he taught about how do we fail when

we are trying to receive revelation during our scripture study, he said “…far to many

members of The Church, study the scriptures as objects… they read, and then they say in

essence: ok, give it to me, come on.

And then wait for Heaven to deliver the goods. They are objects waiting to be acted

upon, and agent takes a question into the scriptures. And you are asking, seeking,

knowing, focus on the question that you have.

That is walking into the water before it parts; to simply read for fifteen minutes because

is a dutty, that’s good, but that is also, sometimes, like a standing onside of the river,

waiting for the water to part…”

Questions are essential for our spiritual development, of course, it is important to

remark, is not the same have a question or a doubt just because we have not learned

enough yet, and we are ponder, investigating, and asking God with the security than

even if we don’t recive the answer that we are waiting, if this procede from the prophets

or oficial teachings of the Church it still being correct, and after this life we will be able

to understand it fully, than be asking with the intention to content or just find

apparently “mistakes”.

Talking about the testimonies, it is wonderful when a person is totally sure about the

true of the Church, but, naturally, most of the people have doubts, and that is also right.

Doubting or not about the true, is the big importance, ask God for a testimony, and

work hard to get it and grow it up. In the General Conference of April 2018, the elder

Neil L. Andersen declared “While my wife, Kathy, has known President Nelson

personally for nearly three decades and has no question about his divine

mantle, upon his setting apart, she began reading all his general conference

talks of the past 34 years, praying for an even deeper assurance of his

prophetic role. I promise you that this greater witness will come to you as you

humbly and worthily seek it.”

So many person think that have questions about doctrine is a bad thing, some

of the act as we the questioner would inactive for having them or if we are

sinners, when the reality is, lots of the most crucial revelation exist because someone

had a question or doubt about what was the true or how should we proceed with what

have we learned in The Church. In Saints, Volume 1, we read how strong impacted in

Nephi, “On May 15, 1829, the rains cleared and Joseph and Oliver walked into the

woods near the Susquehanna River. Kneeling, they asked God about baptism and the

remission of sins. As they prayed, the voice of the Redeemer spoke peace to them, and

an angel appeared in a cloud of light. He introduced himself as John the Baptist and

placed his hands on their heads. Joy filled their hearts as God’s love surrounded them. “

this paragraph is just the beginning of how do the received the Aaronic Priesthood, and

how do they get baptized.

They are more and more examples explaining why doubts are not bad, and questions

are definitely good for develop our faith, a huge part of Doctrine and Convenants is

because someone has questions.

I conclude reminding you that The Restoration of the Church occurred because, one

little guy had a question.
