Advanced Preparation:
Find Pirate music
Print Pirate names
Split class up into three teams
Description of Activity:
The children will be making a team flag out of an old shirt. They will be using
paint and markers to create their pirate flag for their future ship. Also, the
groups will be creating a team name, and discovering each of their own pirate
names.
Purpose:
The purpose is to build teamwork and social domain with the children.
My goal is to help the children interact with each other, and develop new
skills and challenges; specifically by helping students develop mutual trust
between me as the teacher and them as the students, and by providing
stimulating activities to keep the students engaged and on task.
Core concepts:
o 4. “Children are active participants in their own development,
reflecting the intrinsic human drive to explore and master one’s
environment.” This core concept connects to my activity because the
children are going to explore the different activities and discover their
pirate name on their own.
o 5. “Human relationships, and the effects of relationships on
relationships, are the building blocks of healthy development.”
Building a relationship with children in the classroom is vital as a
teacher, as well as students building a relationship with each other.
Putting the children into teams and talking like a pirate will help build
relationships both between children and teachers.
