SYSTEM MEASUREMENT
This overview describes the process for measuring SAP
systems. The screenshots are based on SAP NetWeaver 2004s
(SAP NetWeaver Application Server 7.0). You can find detailed

Checking Installations and Systems
With the measurement request, you will receive an overview
of all measurement-relevant installations and systems covered
by your contract.

• Forward this measurement plan to the administrators respon-
sible for the installations so that they can measure the systems.
If you receive your measurement request by e-mail, you will also
receive a file containing an electronic LAW measurement plan. As
of SAP NetWeaver AS 6.40, Support Package 11, LAW processes this
electronic overview and simplifies the maintenance of all systems
whose measurement data needs to be consolidated in LAW.
System Measurement Process
Each SAP system must be measured with the measurement
program. Afterwards, the results of the individual systems are
combined in the License Administration Workbench, consolidated,
and sent to SAP.

of your SAP systems.
Process
Start the measurement program (transaction USMM).
2. System Data and Clients
Check the System Data to uniquely identify the system.
The system type depends on the client status. You can only
make changes using Client Administration.

On the Clients tab, check and include all clients relevant to

measurement.
• In the standard system, clients 000 and 066 are excluded.

Before starting the system measurement, check and maintain

the settings described below.

1. Activate Price List

Activate the price list applicable to your software contract by
setting the Active flag on the Price Lists tab. The system then
displays the contractual user types for the applicable price list. Fig. 4: Clients
The user types only become available to you once you have
activated the price list.

3. User Classification
All employees who use the SAP software require a license and
must be set up as Dialog Users. Classify the users in the system
according to how they use the software.
Only use the Contractual User Types agreed in your software
contract. You can find a description of the standard user types
in the system measurement guide and on SAP Service Market-
place, quick link /licenseauditing → Named User Measurement.
You can classify the user master records in the following ways:
• Using User Maintenance (transaction: SU01)
• Using Reference User (transaction: SU01)
• Using User Maintenance: Mass Changes (transaction SU10,
from SAP NetWeaver AS 6.10)
• Using User List (transaction: USMM)
• Using System Measurement: Mass Changes for the contractual
user types
(transaction USMM: Environment → Mass Change)
• Using System Measurement: Price List Migration
(transaction USMM: Environment → Migration of Price Lists)
5. Consolidating the Results with the License
Administration Workbench (LAW)
This simplifies the measurement of systems in complex system
landscapes and virtually eliminates the risk of evaluating a
person more than once.
Use the electronic LAW measurement plan to simplify the main-
tenance of all systems whose measurement data needs to be
consolidated in LAW. It already contains all the necessary system
data (system number, installation number, hardware key, and
system ID).

6. Sending the LAW Results to SAP
