return on ship owner’s own capital. If actual loading and
discharging times differ from the assumed rates, demurrage or
despatch money will be payable.

Income Calculation
Calculate the freight rate between the Arabian Gulf and N.W. Europe for a
60,000 ton dwt tanker at W80 via the Cape or via a Suez Canal, given the
W100 rate.
Solution:
W100 via Cape = $ 28.00
W80= 0.80* 28.00 = $ 22.40 per ton Cargo

Annual income = $22.40 x say 56,000 tons cargo =$ 1254400

Less 2.5% brokerage =$ 62720

W100 via Suez laded and ballast = $ 17.00 + 3.00 canal dues
W80= (0.80 x 17.00)+ 3.0 = $ 16.60 per ton Cargo
