1. Preliminary Project Proposal

1.1. Project Description

We are in a society today where technology became a mundane

yet beneficial factor in our daily lives. Many possibilities were presented

and then made into a reality in terms of utility or entertainment that we

could not stop thinking of all the things we would made with it. When we

would rely on libraries for research back in the day, we would now rely on

a computer with internet for endless amounts of information.

Technology made wonders throughout the world that it also helped

mankind with many struggles from medicine to construction. One of its

most important contributions was that it provided us an “upgraded” way to

navigate anywhere from a simple neighborhood to an entire country.

Navigation nowadays played an essential part for humanity since

the dawn of time, back when Ferdinand Magellan was circumnavigating

the Earth and Christopher Columbus discovering America. With the

advancement of technology applied into navigation, we can even find

easier paths to travel—a notable example of navigation combined with

technology is the GPS, which allowed us to keep track of our progress

until we reach the desired location.

Moreover, without navigation, we would not be able to produce

maps that help us find our way. These maps had been used for years now

in navigation that we see these in theme parks or zoos. Maps like these
are very useful when it comes to locating yourself in wide public areas,

too.

Management of locations is also vital to us in order to be more

organized of where to go or where markers are situated in.

For this thesis, our aim is to create a cemetery mapping system

that will allow caretakers of “ICC Pasig Cemetery” to utilize in order to

assist visitors and themselves of a deceased’s gravesite, since a cemetery

is in fact a very wide public area.

1.2. Project Background

The title is all about creating a management system for ICC Pasig

Cemetery, a cemetery situated within the areas of Immaculate Conception

Cathedral in Pasig City, just near Pasig Catholic College.

A management system will be made in which allows the user to

search a name or other info in the map (i.e. birthdate, date died, etc.).

Assuming the user found the name, its location will be highlighted, and

once clicked on, and information will pop up. Information can only be

added and updated. Deletion is not required because the planning of

burial is already set in stone.

1.3. Overview of the Current State of Technology

Related to the project, let us tackle the management system and its

use. A management system is a framework of policies, processes and

procedures used by an organization to ensure that it can fulfill all the tasks

required to achieve its objectives. In this project’s case, the management

system will simply be made in a computer as Evergreen’s officials will

benefit from this in an organized business perspective.

1.4. Project Problem Statement

Despite the orderly business of the ICC Pasig Cemetery, due to the

wideness of the area and the numerous “apartment tombs”, some visitors

and even other workers of the site tend to get confused of where the

deceased is located where or where can they place their deceased loved

one.

Moreover, assuming ICC Pasig Cemetery needs additional

information, a management system in the form of mapping allows easier

locating for a burial site.

1.5. Project Objectives

1.5.1. General Objective

 To develop a Mapping Software for “ICC Pasig Cemetery” by

Creating a Management System.

1.5.2. Specific Objectives

 To create the management mapping system by using Visual

Basic with the C# language.

 To identify the area of the cemetery and its burial sites to create

the formatting of how the mapping will work.

1.6. Scope and Limitations of the Project

1.6.1. Scope
 The study will take an estimated of a whole month to complete as

we must examine its gravesites. We are only limited to those

locations, and prohibited to enter personnel-only areas and

constructions zones.

1.6.2. Limitation

 A drafting of the cemetery’s areas will be needed in order to

navigate where to go. By doing so, we will organize on how we can

design a wireframe of what the management system will look like

during the design phase.

2. Methodology

2.1. Analysis Phase

The data flow diagram above shows how the administrator of the

system will be able to add or edit the information. Deletion is not required.

2.2. Design Phase

The purposed mapping management system will be developed

using Visual Basic with the C# language. Giving the system a business-

like feel with a friendly-user interface, the wireframe itself will be designed

with simple yet organized details of sections. The system will only have

add and editing options. Deletion is not required due to the fact a

deceased cannot already move from his/her site.

The system does not need a user login since its main purpose is to

open itself to anybody in order for them to search through the mapping. As

shown in the image above as an example, the “First Name” and

“Surname” text boxes were filled with specific names. And then, the map

will highlight the result if the information is available.

The mapping management system also has the option for the user

to not only scroll through the numerous parts of the cemetery map but also

click one of the “boxes” to view information of that grave, as shown the in

above image of grave B4.

System Architecture

The system architecture above shows the user able to use the

computer in order to input the search needed for information. The

administrator handles all data of adding and editing if maintenance is

needed.

2.3. Implementation Phase

a. Software

 Visual Basic (2008 version or higher)

 Microsoft Word

 Microsoft Excel

 Microsoft Access

 Web browser/Internet

 MySQL
