Position Title: International Education (IE) Student Ambassador

Start Date: April 5th, 2019

End Date: Aug 31st, 2019

Hours of Work: Monday – Friday (between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm) *hours
will vary depending on your class timetable.

Summary of Position:
An IE Student Ambassador’s (SA’s) primary function is to greet and provide
directions, information and general assistance to students, visitors and staff
who come into the IE Office. Ambassadors are excellent representatives of
the IE Department and have superior customer service skills. SAs are
current Langara students who can provide a good insight into Langara
student life and can identify easily with other international students. Student
Ambassadors must have a general knowledge of all aspects of college life
and campus services. As front line representatives of the IE Office, SAs are
committed to excellence.

Duties:
 Greet people as they walk into the IE Office
 Provide information and/or assistance as requested
 Refer visitors, students or staff to the appropriate IE Staff, when
necessary
 Copy/scan student documents as necessary
 Promote IE events and activities
 Assist students with workshop and event sign ups and send email
workshop reminders
 Assist International Student Coordinators or IE Assistant in duties
supporting international student services
 Perform clerical tasks, as needed
 Maintain proper work attire, business casual. IE Department branded
clothing will be provided for Ambassadors during their work shifts

Qualifications:
 Be a current Langara student (domestic or international) in a Regular
Studies program (UT, Career, Degree or Post-Degree Diploma program)
 Have completed at least two full-time semesters at Langara College
 Have a minimum CGPA of 2.33 and be in good academic standing
 Be registered and maintain at least (3 credits or more) during Summer
2019 semester, AND must have been enrolled in full-time studies (9
credits or more) during Spring 2019, AND planning to maintain full-time
studies (9 credits or more) during Fall 2019
 Have strong customer service skills
 Be a self-starter with the ability to work independently with limited
supervision
 Be able to work effectively in a team-based environment
 Have a keen interest in helping others, especially new international
students
 Have good general knowledge of college campus services and how to
direct students to the right places
 Have strong English communications skills
 Have strong verbal and written skills in a secondary language, such as
Mandarin, Punjabi, Hindi, Korean, Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese,
Vietnamese, and/or Japanese
 Intercultural experience is a valued asset
 Be flexible as hours may vary

Preference may be given to those able to commit beyond August 31st.
