https://prezi.com/jak3u5uqgy_q/copy-of-copy-of-kente-cloth-pattern/
- Day 1: After going over the prezi, have the students copy
down the colors and meanings of the colors for Ghana
culture on the top half of their paper. Then on the bottom
half of the page have students plan out the colors and
meanings of their colors for their own Kente cloth.
- Day 2: I can start weaving my Kente Cloth.
- Day 2: Show the students how to weave. Then let students
get their materials and start weaving their Kente cloth.
- Day 2: Once the students are mostly done with their
weaving, show them how to glue and trim the edges of
their strips. Then talk to them about using a sharpie to
make line designs on their Kente cloth to decorate it.

- Day 3: I can work on my Kente cloth and learn about artist

statements.
- Day 3: Students should mostly be wrapping up their Kente
cloths today.
- Day 3: Start the class by teaching students about artist
statements, what they entail, and how to go about writing
them. Give students an artist statement guide line and a
blank artist statement.
- Day 3: Let students know that if they would like to do extra
work on their Kente cloth that they can add yarn as well
like the example.

- Day 4: I can finish my Kente cloth and my artist statement.

- Day 4: Today should be the last day for working on our
Kente cloth. When finished, students can work on a
drawing or make up assignments.

Objectives (Specify skills/information that will be learned):

- Students will learn about the Ghana culture and Kente
cloth.
- Students will learn about weaving techniques.
- Students will learn how to write artist statements.

Information (Given and/or demonstrate necessary information):

- Day 2: Have students watch you demonstrate and then
do. This way students are forced to go at a slow rate
and pay attention. Demonstrate how to weave, glue/cut
ends, and create line designs.
- Day 3: Show students how to write artists statements.

Verification (Steps to check for student understanding):

- Check to make sure students are paying attention
when you are demonstrating.

the ends, and write artist statements.

Activity (Describe the independent activity to reinforce this

lesson):
- The independent part of this lesson is letting the
students decide how many colors they want to use for
their Kente cloth, what their colors mean, if they want
to add yarn, and what they write for their artist
statement.

Contingency Plan (Done early/Not enough time):

- If students are done early. I will encourage them to be
as creative as possible. When they say they are done a
