Modern Technology?

Modern Gadgets?

What are those Affect on you?

Modern technologies impact on mental development when compared with the old technologies,
especially on children. New media technologies and a number of important studies were conducted in
the 2000’s on the impact of children’s intellectual development, and various aspects of using such
technologies. Many researches were conducted aimed to organize understanding the change that took
place by using these technologies, and to explore the conversion in children’s behavior and did focus to
discover-what extent children feel aggression, and how they react by using these modern technologies
e.g. video games, mobile phones with various applications embedded using via Internet with Wi-Fi
connections video games consoles and internet. Children’s use of modern technologies and it impacts
on change in their behaviour with the result of aggression after using various modern technologies. (Van
Mierlo, and Van den Bulck, 2004)

As Gross described in his article that People are very frequent in use of media and modern technologies
in communication at home or at work and feel hard to survive in the absence of modern means of
communications. With the advent rapid new technologies; digital societies are shaping all across and
people are relying mainly on these resources from information, education, and entertainment to social
interaction. The same are shaping social attitude in dealing with each other. (Gross, 2009:68) The
reformed digital cultures and multi resources of communications have severe effects on human beings
especially on children; who have the immediate capacity of learning. Technologies usability among
youngsters and adolescent such as TV, Internet, mobile phones is common particularly in developed
countries. (Kress, 2003)

As David Buckingham (2006) noted that modern technologies include effects of mobile phones and the
negative impact of technology on children’s behaviour i.e. violence and aggressiveness. After the early
90s several scholars have studied the effects of mobile phones and video games on children and
adolescent. Different researches explored the correlation between usability of technology and its effects
on children behaviour. General perception massively supports the idea that mobile phones and its
applications supporting to video games have vital negative effects due to the incidental learning habit in
children. .” (Lievrou & Livingstone, 2002: 76)

In the contemporary issues, the frequently repeated question is about modern society and relationships
between human beings. Technological revolution brought a wide range of concern to investigate and
one of the vital aspects of scholars’ interest is modern media and its effects on children. The specific
focus of researchers is on the negative impact of technology on children’s behavior i.e. violence and
aggressiveness.

Modern technology that is targeted towards children, mobile phones with application and internet
connection may affect children in both positive and negative ways. Technology itself not a bad thing;
somewhat, it is the way of technology that effects children’ behavior who consume it. (Kirsh, 2010:3)
Children are more like to use of modern technologies especially mobile phones with applications. These
types of technologies emerge in children quickly for social communication. In this respect, the
international distribution of media has doubtlessly promoted the emergence of global children’s culture
that exceeds national and cultural differences. Hence, some have accepted these developments as
manifest of a growing ‘global consciousness’ among the youngsters.

As emerging of new technologies the new media has participated in children’s learning perspective as
well, in spite of this when children use these kinds of technologies (mobile phones with applications and
having internet connection with Wi-Fi access) their attitude change. It is believed that violence does
account for major causes of children’s aggression in their behavior, and it is also true that some children
are a more likely to be affected by such a violence that is often shown in video games. The effect of
violence leads these children more aggressive in their attitudes than otherwise.

The “effects of modern technologies (e.g. mobile phones with various applications embedded using via
Internet with Wi-Fi connections in their homes and away) on the behavior of children”. The recent
researches on the usability of internet and associated risks, safety and literacy and harmful effects of the
internet include: Sonia Livingstone, Haddon, L. Görzig, A. and Ólafsson, K. (2011) and many other
researches of effects of video games impacts, conducted by Dill & Dill, 1998; Griffiths, 1999; Anderson &
Dill, 2000; Sherry, 2001. These researches explored significant difference in experience ranging from the
9-10 years old children up-to 15-16 years surveyed. Usage of internet as commonly available now with
cellular services might itself be risky for the children they surveyed. There are several other associated
risks with the technology orientation for children as during the interaction with different available
means such as mobile, internet or video games, they can get in to incidental learning process or
intensity of message or content might influence their learning, attitude and general conduct.

It is accepted truth that modern technologies do account for all causes of children’ aggression and it can
be perceived that some children are a great deal more likely to be affected by change shown on internet
and using mobile phones than others children. Moreover, the effect of violence leads these “at-risk”
children to be even more aggressive than the others normally behave and not frequent user of modern
gadgets. This fact makes them, and the violent content of video games, worthy of our attention. The
learning ratio of digital literacy is also greater in those students who are using these technologies, which
means that coming young generation may have a blend of digital culture.
In nut shell, the striking fact exposed in society, although adamant about being holds a very high degree
of appreciation for the modern technologies. These technologies have developed very deep root in our
society. These technologies may have subtle and severe affect by depicting digital culture. Study
revealed that modern technologies are influencing the behavior of children through mobile phone,
internet and video games.

The benefits of smart gadgets for a student while studying process

Nevertheless, with all the disadvantages, the role of a mobile phone in a student’s life is difficult to
underestimate. With its help, at any time you can quickly contact your relatives, friends, colleagues at
work to find out the necessary information.

In addition, using gadgets saves time. Students spend a lot of time doing homework. Essays, abstracts,
course papers, term papers, all it takes about 70 hours per week. And using gadgets can save time for
any other cognitive activity.

Another plus is that gadgets improve the writing skills, promote the learning of foreign languages and in
general, develop speech. Learning with electronic devices is a popular way of acquiring the skills of
writing. Mastering grammar, vocabulary, playing around with life situations makes it possible to
understand the meaning of a foreign and native language. In addition, if you install grammatical
corrections and proofreaders you can make text editing automatically. Mobile applications eliminate
gaps in systematic education.

Gadgets make learning more interesting and provide access to various closed online training platforms.
Students, regardless of distances, can easily study in universities, or on online courses on EdX, Coursera
or on other online platforms. A huge plus of online education is that classes can be attended at any
convenient time. By the way, students find the keyboard more fun than standard writing using a
conventional pen. Therefore, we can safely conclude that modern technology makes learning more
funny and exciting.

Most students using smart phones can simultaneously solve several problems. For example, during the
lesson, the student can play the game and simultaneously listen to the teacher. Or while travelling in the
transport and communicating with friends/relatives listen to music, that contributes to the development
of multitasking. At the same time, studies have shown that the use of gadgets during their studies does
not affect their academic performance.

Proceeding from the above, it is clear that gadgets are an integral and necessary part of our life. The list
of advantages and disadvantages is the same. Mobile gadgets with all its advantages are a useful and
necessary thing, and, given its shortcomings, it can be argued that the phone is harmful to a person. But
whether it becomes a friend or an enemy, completely depends only on ourselves.

The gadget is a device that is able to perform one or several functions. Gadgets often have funky designs
but have useful functions as well. It is also being referred as gizmos. The history of gadgets can be traced
back to the early 1800s. There is a wide variety of gadget including GPS system, USB toys, smartphone
and etc. The first appearance of the term “gadget” occurs in 1985. Amiga OS uses the term to describe
the GUI widget in a graphical user interface.

1. Benefits of Modern Gadgets

Gadgets offer many benefits to the users. It usually has a small size so you can bring it with you to any
place. Spy gadgets incorporate a recording player and video camera. For example, a spy pen gadget can
have a camera. It functions just like a pen and can be used to write words. No one will know if the
camera is recording scane because it is hidden within the pen. There are also gadgets that design to aid
people with physical impairment. For example, the electronic eyes gadget allows the blind person to
cross the road.

2. Where to Shop for Modern Gadgets

You can shop for technology gadgets at the local store or online store. The online store usually offers
more variety of technology gadgets compare to the local store. The technology gadget can be as cheap
as $1 depending on the type of function it offers. If you buy the technology gadget online, you can save
money by using coupons.

3. Doing Research by Reading Technology Reviews on Technology News Site

Before buying gadget online, you have to do some research by reading the technology reviews. The
technology reviews are available in the technology news site. The technology news site offers reviews
on the latest gadgets.

4. How to Shop Online for Modern Gadget

To shop online, you simply enter the type of gadget in the search engine. For example, if you want to
buy a spy gadget, you should enter the keyword “spy gadget” into the search engine. After you have
submitted the query, you will see a list of gadget stores that sell spy gadgets. Each store offers a
different selection of the gadgets. You should browse every gadget store so that you know what your
choices are.

5. Using Shopping Search Engine

To make online shopping more convenient, you can use the shopping search engine. The shopping
search engine such as Google Products will list all kinds of gadgets and the prices. You will be able to
compare the prices of the different gadget stores. You should use shopping search engine that is based
in your location. For example, if you are from the United Kingdom, you should use UK shopping search
engine. In this way, you will be able to buy the gadget from a local online store and save money on the
shipping charges.

t can be defined as the use of different types of technologies in the learning experience which can result
in the positive changes of pedagogy and teaching methods all over the world. Everyone can see the
benefits that educational technology , and here are some of those mentioned below:

Access to information

Many years ago we couldn’t imagine that we can get to know new information without going out of the
house. Mothers examined new recipes from the book that they borrow in the libraries. Fathers bought
newspapers to learn the updated information from business, economy and society. Students all
evenings spent in the libraries to write the report, project or academic paper. Today information is easily
accessed thanks to the internet . Meanwhile, online courses are accessible to the students who are
unable to attend traditional educational buildings because of health or other complications. It is a
convenient way to study.

Help in protecting the environment

There are thousands of schools in every country. And it is a compulsory institution in every distant
village. Now could you imagine how billions of paper we use to publish new books and copybooks. Due
to technology in education, we are not to buy all these books. Actually, there now schools that were
switched to the use designing computers for their lessons and libraries. It saves money and time when
used thoughtfully.

Increase the popularity of distance learning

With development of such inventions like the internet, the popularity with educational technology is
growing every day. Nowadays it is one of the most preferred methods of learning. Traditional lessons
have been supplemented by virtual ones. Online classes include transferring files, chat rooms and even
board of progress to follow the students’ success. Another benefit is that students can maintain a
flexible schedule that is convenient for them (anytime, anywhere learning). It helps to combine distance
education and work.

Easiness in teaching
There are various ways of improving teaching efficiency with technology in education. Thanks to the
technology they have more than one way to keep an eye on the student’s progress. Moreover audio-
visual presentation, wide-screen televisions, projectors can be used for improving the delivery of
instruction to actually improve learning and increasing the comprehension level among the students.

Technology makes education enjoyable

best-education-systems-in-world-report

We all know how difficult to engage the children in learning. However they enjoy the process when the
instructor uses white board or touch screen technology in order to make classes more interactive and
interesting. In that way it’s easy to attract the kid’s attention. By the way, the involving technology in
the educational process makes education more enjoyable both for the instructors and the learners.

We shouldn’t underestimate the possibilities of educational technology in our modern society.

Nowadays virtual classes are preferred by people all over the world. This form of education is really
enjoyed by children, and many students have recently graduated from virtual High Schools.

Using the new technology in education has become a center point of many researches and studies.
Modern education has to combine with modern technology to come up with best results. The teacher
and the student both can use the technology to enhance the teaching and learning strategies. On the
other hand, many people are worried of the possible harmful effects of using technology in the
classroom or at home. Will children lose their ability to relate to other people? Will they become
dependent on technology to learn? Will they find inappropriate materials? The same was probably said
with the invention of the printing press, radio, and television. All of these can be used inappropriately,
but all of them have given humanity unlimited access to information which can be turned into
knowledge. Appropriately used- interactively and with guidance- they have become tools for the
development of higher order thinking skills.

To begin with, TV the invention that helps us to get useful information in easiest way.” I think, the most
important advantage of television is that it is a huge source of informations, knowledge and
entertainment.” (wojtas Dodano, 2003). Although TV is not a new invention, people try to find many
new ways to use it as a communication tool. Some of the TV’s benefits that it may help the learners in
different ways. For example, the learner of English Language -or any other language- can find a
collection of programs, movies, series, documentary and educated programs and channels that they can
use to learn the language they want. Moreover, TV is an easy, cheap, and available tool to communicate
with all over the world and know the latest news anytime anywhere. To focus more on language
learning, TV can help in many ways. For example, the learner can watch the movie while reading the
subtitles, or watch a simple language program to strengthen the listening skills. TV can also present
many different shows, not only entertainment, but also News, documentary programs, educated
programs, historical and scientific movies.

Secondly, the internet, which become the most popular technology these days. It can be consider as the
“best” way to keep in touch with friends from all countries over the world. In other words, the internet
makes our earth as a small village. It actually has so many benefits; we can mention here the use to
search for information and data for academic purposes. Students can always use the internet to get
more information for their researches. It also became a popular way to communicate, you can send
emails, use chat, voice chat, or even video chat with your friends and family. If we take a closer look,
internet is playing an essential role in education nowadays. In his article, Muthukumar said that the
Internet is a complex storage area containing a huge maze of information from a variety of sources. It
has become a famous source of information for many people worldwide. The Internet wave has also hit
the educational landscape in many big ways. The use of technologies such as the Internet as a teaching
tool in schools is not the issue now since it is pervasively used. Relatively, the issue is how to effectively
employ such technologies and harness fully the new opportunities created by them to promote positive
student learning experiences.

Computer assisted learning is being widely used by teachers and studied by researchers. Teachers use
computers inside classrooms and give the students assignments to integrate the technology with the
homework. A number of studies have been done concerning how the use of computer for language
learning affects the development of language learners’ four skills (listening, speaking, reading and
writing). Most report significant gains in reading and listening and most CALL programs are geared
toward these accessible skills because of the current state of computer technology. However, most
reading and listening software is based on drills. On the other hand, using current CALL technology, even
with its current limitations, for the development of speaking abilities has gained much attention. There
has been some success in using CALL, in particular computer-mediated communication, to help speaking
skills closely linked to “communicative competence” (ability to engage in meaningful conversation in the
target language) and provide controlled interactive speaking practice outside the classroom. Using chat
has been shown to help students routines certain often-used expressions to promote the development
of automatic structure that help develop speaking skills. This is true even if the chat is purely textual.
The use of videoconferencing gives not only immediacy when communicating with a real person but also
visual cues, such as facial expressions, making such communication more real.

However, when it comes to using the computer not as a medium of communication (with other people)
but as something to interact with verbally in a direct manner, the current computer technology’s
limitations are at their clearest. Right now, there are two fairly successful applications of automatic
speech recognition (ASR) (or speech processing technology) where the computer “understands” the
spoken words of the learner. The first is pronunciation training. Learners read sentences on the screen
and the computer gives feedback as to the accuracy of the utterance, usually in the form of visual sound
waves. The second is software where the learner speaks commands for the computer to do. However,
speakers in these programs are limited to predetermined texts so that the computer will “understand”
them.

Finally,” Cell phones are having a great influence in our live and are very convenient to keep with us. Cell
phones are a faster and more effective way to transfer information. Indeed, it is a resource that gives its
user’s great advantages. ” (Gupta, 2010). mobile phones are the fastest way to communicate with
people, and it can save many things with its ‘pocket size’. Mobiles are mainly used as a tool to make calls
and send short messages. However, nowadays they have been developed so much to be a device with
multi-purpose use. As example, we can connect to the internet through mobiles. We can also use some
applications in the system like GPS, dictionary, entertainments, and others. Mobile phones with cameras
are now very popular also that anyone can use the camera to take pictures and videos when they have
special events. These were the benefits of using the cell phones in general. However, if we want to
narrow down the usage to the learning part, we can find many examples on how we can use our mobile
phones in language learning. As example, many cell phones nowadays have special applications for
learning and communication. We can use our cell phones as a dictionary if needed, while we can also
use the cellphone to access to the internet anytime anywhere. A powerful tool to improve their
education is already in kids’ hands. Cell phone delivery of knowledge to learn could richly supplement
traditional book/print methods obsolete very soon. The two key factors are: 1. The students already
have the cell phones in developed countries and are getting them very fast even in the least developed
parts of the world.

2. Multimedia technology is maturing quickly on the cell phone screens.

A very immediate and practical way to improve education for kids right now is to push getting learning
material to the cell phone screens!

To sum up, technology has many faces and means, and we should choose the appropriate use of
technology to get the most benefits of it. We have to lead the technology, and don’t let the technology
leads us. TV, Internet, and mobiles are some examples of technologies we can’t ignore using them in our
daily life, and to follow the speed track you need to follow the speed of the technology. Using
technology in education has become a fact in our lives. Advantages and disadvantages are issues to be
further investigated in future researches.

In theory, mLearning increases access for those who are mobile or cannot physically attend learning
institutions –those who would not otherwise be able to follow courses in a traditional educational
setting due to the constraints of work, household activities, or other competing demands on their time.
MLearning makes education more accessible in that it enables learners to pursue their studies according
to their own schedule. The portability of mobile technology means that mLearning is not bound by fixed
class times; mLearning enables learning at all times and in all places, during breaks, before or after
shifts, at home, or on the go. Interestingly, however, while mLearning is portable, it is not necessarily
associated with physical movement. According to a study conducted by Vavoula, few people actually
utilize the time spent in transit to learn (Sharples, Taylor, & Vavoula, 2005, p. 3).

MLearning, as Visser and West (2005) suggest, can also increase access in those situations where cost
represents a significant barrier to learning (p. 132). For those in rural or remote areas where
environmental and infrastructure challenges hinder other learning modalities, particularly eLearning,
mLearning presents great opportunities. For the individual learner, mobile technology is much less cost-
prohibitive than other technologies like personal computers and broadband connections that are
necessary for eLearning. The ubiquity of mobile phones, moreover, means that educational services can
be delivered with learners’ existing resources. In as much as mobile technology presents a less cost-
prohibitive medium for learning, it represents an important avenue by which to reduce the gap between
the haves and the have-nots in contemporary society where access to knowledge and information is
increasingly important (VanWeert, 2005).
