GROUND IMPORVEMENT IN CROSS PASSAGE LOCATIONS

1. OBJECTIVE:
The scope of this work is to describe the method and sequence of activity required the
ground treatment by grouting of unit 2 soil strata (as per GAR) at CP1, CP2 and CP3.
The objective of this document is to describe the ground improvement process and
procedures of execution along with maintaining the quality of work.
This is a grouting technique into a soil stratum to improve its strength up to 250 kpa. The
drilling will be carried out in soil strata after pre-drilling of tunnel segments. Sodium silicate
and cement slurry will be injected through that grout hole.

1.1. Survey and setting out :-

Survey marking for trial ground treatment at maintenance shaft, Howrah station and
grouting point shall be made as per drawing.

STAGE-1

Figure-3: Cross section showing the process of grouting through pre-drill holes

Composition of grouting material: -

1. Sodium silicate solution 40% - means 80L of S.S X 120L of water per 200L barrel.
2. Cement suspension with ratio W/C -4/1 - means 200l of water X 50kg of Cement.
3. Final Mix will be adjusted on site as per soil condition.
The above mix will be injected in soil at cross passage locations. The grout will be
allowed to settle and cure for 2 weeks and then core will be recovered for testing.
A perforated steel pipe will be inserted into the drilled hole and directly connected
to the flashing unit.

Figure.4 Sketch showing the stage 1 grouting procedure

The steel pipe will be pushed approximately 80 cm into the surrounding soil and
grouting will be executed.

Figure.5 Sketch showing the stage 2 grouting procedure

After grouting, the pipe will be inserted deeper into the drilled hole (approximately
+100 cm/ each pipe) and grouting start again.
Figure.6 Sketch showing the stage 3 grouting procedure

After grouting mid of the cross passage the same sequence shell be followed from
another side
