THEORY:

Mobile Phone Detector:

We are most familiar with cell phone active detectors. The cell phone detectors are mostly hand
and pocket-size mobile transmission detectors. It can sense the presence of an activated mobile
phone from a distance of one and a half meters. So it can be used to prevent use of mobile
phones in examination halls, confidential rooms, etc.

Use of Mobile Phone Detector:

It is also useful for detecting the use of mobile phone for spying and un-authorized video
transmission. Certain places where use of mobile phones are not allowed like exam hall, temple,
offices and theaters, in those places to detect and restrict the use of mobile phones this proposed
system is very helpful. This must detect the incoming and outgoing calls, SMS and video
transmission even if the mobile phone is kept in the silent mode. The illegal use of cell phones is
a growing and dangerous problem in correctional institutions worldwide. These devices are a
significant threat to prison security and circumvent the monitoring processes in prisons, while
helping inmates commit new crimes both inside and outside the facility.
MODE OF OPERATION:
Circuit diagram of the mobile phone detector using LM358 is shown in the figure. It is built
around LM358 (IC1) and NPN transistor BC548 (T1). When a mobile phone is active, it radiates
RF signal that passes through nearby space. The signal contains electromagnetic RF radiation
from the phone. Capacitor C1 is used in the circuit to detect the RF signal from the mobile
phone. When the mobile phone radiates energy in the form of RF signal, C1 absorbs it and
passes on to the inputs of IC1. This is indicated by the flashing of LED1. Preset VR1 (2.2M) is
used to vary the range of the circuit. Transistor T1 is used to amplify the signal obtained at pin 1
of IC1.

PROCEDURE:
1. Connections are made as per the circuit diagram.
2. Place the antenna straight and provide battery power supply.
3. Now, place a mobile phone near the circuit and make a call using that mobile phone.
4. The LED present in the circuit will blink several times according to strength of RF signal.
5. This explains the detection of a mobile phone.

APPLICATIONS:
It is useful where the use of mobile phone is prohibited like

1. Petrol pumps
2. Gas station
3. Historical places
4. Religious places
5. Court of laws
6. Examination halls
7. Spying and unauthorized video transmission
8. Military bases
9. Hospitals
10. Conference

RESULT: Thus the Mobile phone detector is designed and implemented.
