This modern and robust Inshore Patrol Vessel (IPV) design is derived from the BAE Systems designed 56 metre Search and Rescue vessel which has been in operational service since 2000.

The vessel is large and robust in order to transit rough, open ocean waters between patrol areas. This minimises the requirement to seek shelter while on or in transit to patrol. The vessel is fitted with an active ride control system. The top speed can also be increased to meet customer requirements.

To complete the vessel’s flexibility for close inshore and onshore enforcement operations, two highly capable sea boats are provided. The IPV is large enough to provide an excellent level of comfort for both crew and embarked civil agency officials or observers.

Four of these vessels have been constructed for the Royal New Zealand Navy.

Capability The IPV is fully equipped for Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) patrol and response operations, including:

Ability to patrol up to Sea State 5

Deployment and recovery of sea boats up to Sea State 4

VERTREP in Sea State 5, and

Survival up to Sea State 8.

Vessel manning permits two sea boats to conduct simultaneous boarding and search operations. The sea boats and small arms provide a measured, inshore peacetime enforcement capability.

Mission System The Mission System has been designed to be simple, low cost, but effective, and integrates communications, navigation and detection of offenders by radar and electronic support measures. The IPV has a forward gun position for weapons to 40 mm. More extensive mission and weapon systems solutions can be provided as options to meet complex customer requirements.
