NOTIFICATION
New Delhi, the 10th May, 2002
G.S.R. 348(E):— In exercise of the powers conferred
by Section 15 of the Government Savings Banks Act, 1873
(5 of 1873), the Central Government hereby makes the
following rules further to amend the Post Office Savings
Bank General Rules, 1981, namely:—
1. (1) These Rules may be called the Post Office
Savings Bank General (Amendment) Rules, 2002.
(2) They shall come into force on the date of their
publication in Official Gazette.
2. In the Post Office Savings Bank General Rules,
1981,—
(a) In rule 8, in sub-rule (3), for the words "two
rupees", the words "ten rupees" shall be
substituted;

(b) for rule 11. the following rule shall be substituted,


namely :—•
"11. Final withdrawal on closure.—Except as
otherwise provided in the relevant rules, final
withdrawal on closure of an account shall be
allowed at the Post Offices authorised by the
Director General (Posts)".

NOTIFICATION
Note :— The principal rules were published vide G.S.R.
662(E), dated the 17th December. 1981 and New Delhi, the 10th May. 2002.
subsequently amended vide G.S R. 483(E). dated G.S.R. J49(E).— In exercise of the powers conferred
the 10th June. 1983, G.S.R 723(E). dated the 4th by Section 15 of the Government Savings Banks Act, 1873
September. 1985, GSR 1000(E). dated the 1st (5 of 1873). the Central Government hereby makes the
January, 1990 and GSR 490(E), dated the 6th July, following rules further to amend the Post Office Savings
1999. Account Rules, 1981. namely :—
1.(1) These Rules may be called the Post Office
Savings Account (Amendment) Rules, 2002.
(2) They shall come into force on the date of their
publication in Official Gazette.
2 In the Post Office Savings Account Rules. 1981,
in rule 5.—
(a) In sub-rule (4), for the words "twenty rupees",
the words "fifty rupees" and for the words
"two hundred and fifty rupees", the words
"five hundred rupees" shall be substituted;
(b) in sub-rule (6). for the words "five rupees" the
words "twenty rupees" shall be substituted.
