Chapter 9
CONCLUSION AND FUTURE SCOPE

9.1 Conclusion

This project presents an experimental study of CuO, TiO2 nanoparticles in base fluid as a
coolant in an automotive radiator. The overall heat transfer coefficients and heat transfer
rates with nanofluids at different volume fractions were studied under turbulent flow
conditions.
The percentage increment in heat transfer rate of nanofluids with combined nanoparticles
(water + ethylene glycol + 0.01 TiO2 + 0.01 CuO) is around 5 to 30 % that of other nanofluids
and therefore the total heat transfer area of the radiator can be reduced. Reduced or compact
shape may results in increase the fuel economy, reduce the weight of the vehicle. However,
the sizeable increase in associated pumping power might impose some limitations on
the economical use of this kind of nanofluids in automotive radiators.

9.2 Future Scope

In future they create an impact on automotive industry. Because their enhanced

thermo physical properties over the base fluids like water, oil etc., the nanofluids used in
automobile for various applications such as coolant, fuel additives, lubricant, shock absorber
and refrigerant. Nanofluids possess immense potential applications to improve heat transfer
and energy efficient in several areas including automobile, microelectronics, nuclear, space
and power generation.
