Method of Determining the Properties of the Produced Bioethanol

The properties of the produced bioethanol will be determined based on its

appearance, color, density, ethanol content, and water content. The standard methods

will be based on the laboratory procedures done by the Department of Energy.

Based on DPNS/DOE QS 008:2017 Philippine Standards established and

provided by the Department of Energy, the following are the chemical and physical

requirements for E-Gasoline (Euro 4-PH). DOE refers to E-Gasoline as base gasoline

blended with fuel the produced bioethanol.

3.1. Method of Determining the Appearance in Accordance with

DPNS/DOE QS 008:2017 Philippine Standards

Visual test method will be done to determine this property, wherein the base

gasoline provided by DOE blended with the bioethanol produced in this study must

have a clear and bright, visibly free of suspended or precipitated contaminants.

3.2. Method of Determining Color in Accordance with DPNS/DOE QS

008:2017 Philippine Standards

Visual test method will be conducted to determine the color of the produced

bioethanol blended with base gasoline by DOE, wherein green denotes regular,

red denotes premium, and blue denotes premium plus.

3.3. Method of Determining Density in Accordance with DPNS/DOE QS

008:2017 Philippine Standards

Test method in accordance with PNS ASTM D1298 or PNS ASTM D4052

or PNS ASTM D 7777 will be used by the Department of Energy to determine

the density of the produced bioethanol.

3.4. Method of Determining Ethanol Content in Accordance with

DPNS/DOE QS 008:2017 Philippine Standards

Various basis for test method were mentioned from the DPNS/DOE QS

008:2017 in order to determine the ethanol content. The test method that will

be utilized by the Department of Energy may be based in one of the following

test methods: PNS ASTM D4815, PNS ASTM D5599, PNS ASTM D5845, PNS

ASTM D5986, PNS ASTM D6729, PNS ASTM D6730 or PNS ASTM D6839.

3.5. Method of Determining Water Content in Accordance with DPNS/DOE

QS 008:2017 Philippine Standards

The test method that will be utilized by the Department of Energy for

determining the water content, % v/v, will be in accordance either with PNS

ASTM E203 or PNS ASTM D6304.
