Abstract- This paper presents the application of technology
and internet to improvise the transport system in local areas
of the city and villages. As evolution took place,
transportation was improved. But, there was drastic change
when all of these were linked with new technology and
internet. All these changes are to serve one purpose, to make
the life of a common man simple and easy. In order to
contribute in this field, I have a view or an idea. I’m mainly
focusing on improving Government “Bus facilities” for local
areas in the cities and the villages, where technology and
internet is still far to reach. Using the modern technology
and connecting everything to internet i.e., internet of things
we can achieve this.
I. INTRODUCTION
The very first means of transport or say locomotion
was walking, running, swimming. As the time passed
human beings started using animals for transport.
Inventions such as wheel and the sled led to fast and easy
transport. But, number of inventions which changed
transportation fundamentally, were only after industrial
revolution. Various measures and steps have been taken to
make transportation convenient to user. Drastic changes
were observed when transportation was linked with the
emerging technology and internet. The improvement in
transportation can been easily sighted in major cities. But
when it comes to villages, technology is far beyond their
reach. Following are some ideas or say views that can be
implemented to improvise transport in local areas in the
cities and the villages.
II. MOBILE APP-WIMB APP (Where Is My
Bus?-APP)
Almost all of us use mobile phones (smart phones) and
are well versed with its usage. If we develop an app which
can provide information regarding the whereabouts of the
transport system, say buses, it would be very helpful. We
can develop a mobile application called Where Is My
Bus(WIMB) for using government buses in the local areas
of the city and villages. This application is fed with the
required data such as the buses available on daily basis,
time of arrival and departure, schedule of the day etc. The
mobile application will have the facilities like registration,
search engine for the required bus, reserving the seat,
online payment option, cancelling the reservation option,
travel history of an individual and the necessary bus
internet, SMS/message alerts is sent to the respective user
containing the information about the arrival/departure of
the bus.
III. SMART BUS TICKETING MACHINE
Lots of students and workers use bus passes. If the
database is registered and stored in the machine, then we
can make use of it in better way. This can be done in two
ways as follows.
A. SMART FINGER FRINT SCANNER
The passenger who wishes to avail this facility must
provide the required database at the main bus depot of the
city and should’ve prepaid the amount for a year or so.
Smart finger print scanners can be used as replacement to
the bus passes. The data of the individual will be stored in
the database while granting the bus pass facility or one
can pay the amount and select package, for example; daily
pass or monthly pass or yearly pass for using bus facility.
The same data can be used. A person whose data is
already stored, shall give his/her finger print impression
on the digital finger print scanner, this has to match with
the records in the database. This is done in order to
confirm whether the same person is using the bus pass
facility rather than anybody else on his/her name. The
passenger has an option even to swipe his/her ATM card
to pay amount and get ticket while traveling in the bus.
B. BAR CODE SCANNER
Bar codes are the unique and specific for all. We might
have seen in malls, big bazars, the use barcode scanners to
detect the item and its price. In the same way we can use
barcode scanner to scan the barcode of bus passes which
would be stored in the data base.
C. QR CODE SCANNER
The mobile application will generate unique QR Code
for each individual. The so generated QR code is scanned.
Digitalization has made the life easier. Like we can use
the QR code to pay the amount using Paytm, PayPal, etc.
The same technique is being used in other means of
transport such as railways, flight ticket bookings.
IV. GPS TRACKER
The GPS tracker is being used for live tracking of the
bus from/to the required area or destination as mentioned
by the passengers. The passengers would be able to access
all the information related to the bus where they wish to
travel and all other buses with the help of APP and on-
board display system in the bus stop. Bus information as
follows will be provided to each and every passenger
travelling on daily basis. The information includes
 Current location of the bus
 Arrival and departure time as per the current
location of the bus
 Route
 Traffic alert
 Route diversion
 Nearby bus stations, required bus location
 Driver and Conductor information
GPS tracker
This can be accessed using the mobile application. We can
even make use of digital monitors to display it at the bus
stops.
V. CLOUD COMPUTING
Cloud Computing is a computer model that provides
services in the form of on-demand services, it’s accessible
for everyone, everywhere and every time, including
clouds referring to the internet and the web. "A cloud is a
type of parallel and distributed system consisting of a
collection of inter-connected and virtualized computers
that are dynamically provisioned and presented as one or
more unified computing resource(s) based on service
level agreements established through negotiation between
the service provider and consumer." Cloud computing
seems to offer some incredible benefits for
communicators: the availability of software applications,
quick processing, unlimited storage, and the ability to
easily share and process information. All of this is
available through the browser any time you can access the
Internet.
A database has to be maintained in order to access the
necessary information by anyone at any point of time. A

can even install display systems with voice installation in
all the local languages which can retrieve the information
from the cloud storage and provided the necessary data.in
case of change in route, delay in arrival of the buses and
other changes, if happened, should be updated by the
main office and is displayed tin the digital monitors. As
well, it sends the message alert, app notification to the
respective user.
VI. PRIVATE AND EMERGENCY
TRANSPORT SYSTEMS
Private transport system is available in the villages and
local areas of the cities but are not safe. If the government
or private organization is set-up, we can improvise it.
Storing the data-base of the driver or the transport system
holder in the government database and interfacing a
tracking device will help in keeping an eye on the vehicle.
During emergency times one cannot afford to wait for the
bus to arrive, so for such cases, the consumer should send
a request using the mobile application. No sooner did the
main office receives the request, than emergency transport
will be send to their location. Another major change that
we can make is buses for the students. The main bus
depot when provides the bus passes, it has the database
stored in it. Based on number of students, we can reserve
a bus specifically for students to travel from their home to
the schools/colleges.
VII. TECH TO CONTROL POLLUTION
Pollution is the major issue. In traffic signals, most of
the drivers don’t turn off the engines. If the engine is on
for more than the threshold time, sensor should sense it,
driver should be alerted. This can be done by using
sensors and sirens. It saves fuel, controls pollution. In
case of rain and dust there shall be an automatic rain
sensing viper and an automatic window shield which
basically works on sensors, thus avoiding rain and dust.
CONCLUSION
As already mentioned the idea mainly focuses on local
areas and villages, there is a need for improvement and
making the best use of technologies in these sectors.
When we look into the metropolitan cities, digitalization
comes into picture. Water bills, electricity bills, way bills
are being added to the transport system. This development
may take a year or two to be implemented all over the
country. Major problem that we face would be educating
people about the technological stuff.
