Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?

At universities and colleges, sports and social activities are just as important as classes and
libraries and should receive equal financial support.

Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

For most college graduates, academical skills alone is not enough to survive in complicated real
life situations. After graduated, they have to not only work, but also live on their own. I believe
that for college students, sports and social activities are just as essential as academic classes,
libraries and need equal financial support.

Firstly, sports help students to develop their physical health and fitness. When a student has a
great body, he will feel much more independent than those who are not as fit. The CEO of
Petrolimex in Vietnam is very fit and attractive. He told the press himself that being physically
atractive help him a lot in having confidence and high self-esteem, two of the most important
traits of a good leader. Also, being healthy helps students to study more effectively. A recent
study shows that after exercising, human’s body produces hormomes that make them feel
happiness, hope and the desire to live with a passion. So sports and exercises help students to
work better and live better.

Secondly, students who participate in extra-curricular activities are more likely to develop great
social skills, which are very important to their future career. Skills such as communication, team
working and leadership are inevitable to anyone who wants to go far in their career. If a student
takes part in a volunteering club in her college years, she will have the opportunity to work with
and learn from other people in real life situations, which will greatly contribute to her future life
skills. She can also have more practice in team working outside the class. She will have to face
conficts, misunderstanding, dangerous situations and failures. With these precious experiences,
that student will be very close to the best version of herself and have much chance of being a
great employee, or employer in the future.

Finally, sports and social activities are not being paid enough attention at colleges and
universities, especially in terms of financial problems. In a lot of schools, facitilies needed for
coaching and playing sports are poor and outdated. Some Southeast asia schools, in particular,
only have soccer yards, which only benefit people who play soccer. My friend, a gymnast,
attended college last year and said her school does not have an indoor sport stadium for
gymnasts like her. Her gymnastic skills are now abandoned; for over a year now she is not able
to do any acro practice due to the lack of teachers and facilities. Besides, many extra- curricular
projects by students also failed because of poor financial supports. A project made by our high
school and a group of college students last year was also abandoned half-way through because
we ran out of money.
In conclusion, sports and extra curricular activities in colleges are very important for students
development. They are a great compliment to knowledge and skills learnt inside the class.
These types of activites need more encouragement, especially financial support.
