Abstract

A study was conducted to investigate the effects of “Keep Malaybalay Clean and Green”
radio program to the level of awareness, understanding and competence on environmental
concepts and principles of junior high school learners. A total of 30 Grade 9 students of
Bukidnon State University Secondary Laboratory School participated on the study. A
pretest-posttest design was used. The data were gathered using validated environmental
education (EE) materials from the partnership of Bicol University, Department of
Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Network of Normal Schools (3NS).
The gathered data were treated using frequency, mean, standard deviation, and t-test. Results
revealed that after the intervention, the participants knew and understood the different
environmental principles. Their level of competence was enhanced from Satisfactory to Very
Satisfactory. In addition, there is a significant difference in the pretest and posttest means of
students’ competence level, however, no significant difference existed in the means for their
level of awareness and understanding.
