Cam Bearing Installation on
Caterpillar C11 & 13 Diesel Engines

The AERA Technical Committee offers the following information regarding camshaft bearing installation on
Caterpillar C11 & 13 diesel engines. This information should be considered to determine the correct location
of the bearing inserts within the cylinder block.

The correct bearing location within the block insures optimum bearing lubrication and assists in preventing
engine damage. Before installing new cam bearings be advised of the following details and make certain the
bores are clean and free of burrs.

Install the new cam bearings to the following depths from the block front face noting the bearing oil hole
location should be 45° angle from vertical. All seven bearings have same angle. If the bearing has a joint, it
should go toward the top of the block.

A. 1.437” (36.500 mm)

B. 7.579” (192.500 mm)

C. 13.720” (348.500 mm)

D. 19.862” (504.500 mm)

E. 26.004” (660.500 mm)

F. 32.146” (816.500 mm)

G. 38.287” (972.500 mm)
