Light
High energy density
Minimal self-discharge
No requirement for priming
Low maintenance
Variety of types
Battery – after examining the three choices of material for the battery, the team chose Lithium
over Ni CAD II and Nano-Carbon due to their inferior energy densities. This was of great priority
in the design of the mobile phone as the team found it important for the phone to have industry
leading battery life.
Capacitor – the team decided on using Tantalum alloy X for the capacitors in the design because
Graphene ion-liquid did not meet the needs of the team’s design and the Aluminium polymer
was found to be unsuitable for use in mobile devices as there is a risk of small explosions with
these capacitors in small devices.
Circuit Board – the team selected the organic polymer for the circuit board as this posed little to
no environmental nor social impacts while being only marginally thicker and having a little more
loss than the Super PCBs
Negative Impacts of Material Choices
We decided upon our material mix taking into consideration their feasibility for use in a mobile
phone, all while taking note of the negative environmental and social impacts
