Persuasive writing and speaking advance the progress towards social injustice and

equality by telling people to speak up for equality. In the letter of berming hand Martin Luther
King’s purpose is to have equal rights for all people no matter what color. In genetics of justice
purpose julia alvarez purpose is to persuade her audience to speak up for injustice, in the
Speech of malala’s story her purpose is for people to show other people about what the taliban
did and what their doing is wrong saying to speak up for injustice so that their is education for
girls all around the world. The Authors appeal to pathos because it was the most successful and
also ethos and logos.
Julia Alvarez did the best job to advance his purpose n Genetics of Justice by Julia
Alvarez her purpose is to persuade her audience to speak up for justice. At the beginning of the
text she talks about her mom and how she lived under dictatorship. This is shown when she
says “Especially, I imagine my mother's life. Respectable families such as hers kept their
daughters out of the public eye“ (Alvarez 1). This event advances her purpose by explaining
how her mother was constantly hiding, which is an example of injustice in the Dominican
Republic. Then alvarez goes on to describe the ruler of the Dominican Republic. This is shown
when she says “It was from my father that my mother learned why Trujillo hated blacks with
such a vengeance, how he disguised his own Haitian ancestry, how he lightened his skin with
makeup“ (alvarez 2). This event advances her purpose by proving how their leader was racist
and treated people horribly. She uses this to show that people should speak up for justice
because they should have a fair and honest leader. Finally alvarez explained the assassination
of Trujillo. This is shown when she says “Actually, Dominicans do not refer to the death as an
assassination but as an ajusticiamiento, a bringing to justice. Finally, after thirty-one years,
Trujillo was brought to justice, found guilty, and executed” (Alvarez 6). This event advances her
purpose by encouraging people to speak up for justice because if they do, people who have
done wrong will get what they deserve.
Dr. Martin Luther King’s purpose of writing the letter is to address the concerns of the
clergymen and convince them that he should be in Birmingham protesting. In his letter, he says
“Oppressed people cannot remain oppressed forever “ (King 7). This shows pathos. Dr. King is
appealing to people's fear saying that they would not stand to be treated unequally. Dr. King
also writes “If he repressed emotions do not come in these non violent ways they would come
out in ominous expressions of violence this is not a threat; it's a fact of history” (King 8). He uses
pathos here too. King is appealing to people's fear because he's showing they're tired of being
mistreated and they won’t let it go on. Dr. King wrote “One is a force of complacency made up of
negro who, as a result of long years of oppression have been so completely drained of self
respect and a sense of “somebodies” that they have adjusted to segregation” King is appealing
to people's emotions so they can feel bad for the people who had lost self respect and their
rights because of segregation
King wants the government to stop playing dumb and acknowledge the fact that there's a
problem he states we who engage in nonviolent direction actions are not the creators of the
tension
