General
General
Validity of the document
This document describes how to install the
drivers for the "PEAK CAN dongle (USB)",
identification number 8 438 087. The CAN
dongle is required for the KION Warehouse
Systems GmbH CAN bus trucks diagnostic
software. The CAN dongle drivers can be in-
stalled and used on Windows XP or Windows
7 operating systems. The connecting cable
("CAN bus diagnostics adaptor cable", iden-
tification number 8 392 452) must be ordered
separately.
Installation sequence
Following the correct sequence
The Windows system driver for the CAN
dongle must be installed before installing
the help programs and the drivers for the
diagnostics. This is described in the chapter
entitled "Installing the Windows system
driver".
Only after the successful installation of the
Windows system driver should the additional
drivers and programs be installed, as de-
scribed in the chapter entitled "Installing the
help programs and driver files for diagnostics."

This should start automatically once a
CD-ROM is inserted. If it does not start au-
tomatically, please use the "start. exe" file on
your CD-ROM drive (double click on the file).

NOTE
The "parallel port CAN interface (Sontheim)"
can only be selected when using Windows
XP. The procedure is not described, but it is
self-explanatory. If a Windows system driver
has not yet been installed or if the Windows
system driver installed is not the latest version,
an error message will appear.

Error messages
If a Windows system driver has not yet been
installed or if the Windows system driver
installed is not the latest version, one of the
following error messages will appear and the
installation will be terminated.
Resuming installation
If no errors were detected, installation will
continue as follows.

Checking and correcting the settings
The baud rate of the CAN Dongle should be set
to 250 kBit/s after installation and the virtual
CAN network must have the name "TestNet".
NOTE
The CAN dongle (PEAK) must be connected
to the computer’s USB port in order to carry
out tests and to change the settings. Do not
start any diagnostic software that uses this
CAN dongle before testing.
Check the settings with the "PCAN Nets Con-
figuration" program by clicking on Start —
Programs — PCAN — PCAN Nets Confi-
guration.

NOTE
The name of the virtual CAN network can also
be changed here. However, the "TestNet"
name must not be changed.
Confirm the settings by pressing "OK".

NOTE
If the driver has previously not been installed
correctly, the driver for the CAN dongle is
saved under "Other devices""VER1:PEAK".
Follow the on-screen instructions.
