Hello, I am a community member / UAlbany (student/staff/alum) who is concerned about the

unlawful detention and deportation of former UAlbany student Omar Helalat as well as the
construction of the new College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security, and
Cybersecurity.

After a case in which all charges were dropped, Omar’s DACA was revoked and he is currently
being held at Batavia Federal Detention Center awaiting deportation.

Simultaneously, the University is complicit in and funding the hiring pipeline from Universities
into the mechanisms of US global dominance and imperialism.

We believe it is contradictory to claim to support “diversity and inclusion” while raising the next
generation of CIA and ICE agents.

We are calling on the University to:

- reissue it’s statement committing to becoming a sanctuary campus as well as protecting
immigrant students from deportation
- divest from the CEHC until the school can aptly protect it’s students
- encourage all administrative staff to sign any and all petitions in support of Omar’s case
- and Cease the integration of former intelligence officials into UAlbany faculty.

We sincerely hope you take appropriate measures to stand up for immigrant students and their
rights. Thank you
