METHODOLOGY

We initially started the research by searching for the market size of home improvement industry
from online industry reports, market analysis, media news reports, and press releases such as
Statista, Digital Commerce 360, Home Improvement Research Institute, and many more. Based
on these sources, we found an online industry report published by Digital Commerce 360
pertaining to the annual sales of hardware and home improvement industry. To identify whether
hardware belongs to the home improvement space or not, we checked Home Improvement
Research Institute for additional information, and found that hardware is a part of home
improvement space. We then proceeded to compute for offline and online annual sales. The
online home improvement sales are publicly available ($40.26 billion), including the total annual
sales in 2017 ($435.41 billion). To compute for the annual offline sales, we deducted the annual
online home improvement sales to the total annual sales: $435.41 billion - $40.26 billion =
$395.15 billion.
