registration user can get email confirmation, after completing registration users profile will be

visible to other users.

Special Vivah website which will provide platform to a lot of Bride/Groom for finding perfect

match. There are different sectors like Registration, Partner, Search, etc. So the Bride/Groom can

get their interest for find their partner. Bride/Groom can directly search Partner according to their

6
required criteria. The Bride/Groom can use match By Email functionality so he/she can get

directly E-mail alert for the match which fulfill their required criteria.

Special Vivah may seem fairly simple at first, but they are not. Regardless of your religion or

even if you don’t have a particular faith; there are lots of traditions and issues to take into

account. For many couples, it can get very overwhelming, very fast. Using wedding planners is

one way to handle everything with a minimum of fuss while also making sure you meet all the

traditional expectations of a wedding. A wedding planner is simply a person who is intimately

familiar with Special Vivah, the issues that need to be addressed in a particular type of wedding

and the best way to get everything taken care of. They know which vendors to use and which to

avoid. One of the most important services they provide is time. As your wedding approaches,

your time can be at a premium. Wedding planners can take the burden of handling caterers, the

photographer, and musicians and so on off your hands. While that may sound interesting now,

you will find it is a critical bit of help as the magic day approaches. Professional wedding

planners are based worldwide but the industry is largest in the USA, Western Europe and China.

Various wedding planning courses are available to those who wish to pursue the career. Planners

generally charge either a percentage of the total wedding cost, or a flat fee. Planners are also

popular with couples planning a destination wedding, where the documentation and paperwork

can be complicated. Any country where a wedding is held requires different procedures

depending on the nationality of each the bride and the groom. A local wedding planner can take

care of the different procedures. Although planning a major event can be exciting and fun, it can

also be time consuming and very stressful. With today’s hectic lifestyle, nuclear families and

time constraints it is important to have someone dedicated and knowledgeable who understands

the requirements and follows through with all the details. As wedding planners, their aim is to

7
make the special day a perfect reflection of the style and taste while minimizing the stress in

planning. They spend time to find out what customer envisions the wedding to be; no dream too

vast, every detail vital, to make it uniquely. They strive to exceed the expectations while working

within the budget.

Wedding is on the lookout for a Sales and Business Development Intern. This is a great

opportunity for a fast learner with a passion for the unconventional, an interest in the alternative

wedding sector, and some experience of negotiation, outbound SALES, business development,

and relationship management.

more interested in the practical skills that you have and your willingness to learn

Business development concerns all the activities involved in realizing new business

opportunities, including product or service design, business model design, and marketing.

When splitting business development into two parts, we have: ‘businesses and

‘development’. The first things that come into mind when looking at business are:

economics, finance, managerial activities, competition, prices, marketing, etc. All of

these keywords are related to risk and entrepreneurship and clearly indicate the primary

scope of the term ‘business development’. Development is very abstract and can be linked

with some of the following keywords: technological improvement, cost reduction,

general welfare, improved relations, movement in a (positive) direction, etc.

In the traditional definition of Business development, Business Development is mostly

seen as growing an enterprise, with a number of techniques. The mentioned techniques

differ, but in fact all of them are about traditional marketing. The main question in these

issues is: how to find, reach and approach customers and how to make/keep them

satisfied, possibly with new products. (Kotler, 2006) Since this definition is limited and

lacks some essential factors in business developing, a complete new definition of

10
Business Development will be introduced. Of course, the theory on “traditional”

marketing is still correct and can be adopted from the old definition. When supplying a

solution, it is important to focus on the total offering you give instead of only focusing on

the product or service. An offering is a package consisting of different proportions of

physical product, service, advice, delivery and the costs, including price that are involved

in using it. Hereby the advice, adaptation to the customer and the costs are the most

important factors to get the right combination within the offering. (Ford et al., 2006;

Hakansson et al., 2004) Drawing on contingency theory, an idea central to new business

development is that different product-market- technology combinations can require

different marketing strategies and business models to make them a success (Tidd et al.,

2005). To chart the factors that are involved and create synergy between them, new

business development draws heavily upon the fields of technology and business

networks. The new business development process is to recognize chances and

opportunities in a fast changing technological environment. Often uncertainty arises

because of new technology and their new markets.

Sales and business development are interchangeable, from co-workers to industry peers.

This stems primarily, I believe, from the shift in titles of salespeople to business

development which has been done in an effort to avoid the negative connotation that

surrounds it.

When you think about the function of business development, it should be thought of as a

MARKETING function. Yes, there are some soft SALES skills (qualification,

11
negotiation, etc.) that are necessary to become a good business development professional,

but at the end of the day, it's a marketing function.

If you were to think about it on a sliding scale between a pure function of sales or

marketing, it would wind up somewhere around here.

The reason behind this is that typical goals of business development include brand placement,

market expansion, new user acquisition, and awareness -- all of which are shared goals of

marketing. The slight slide towards sales is simply because of the tactics business development

employs to achieve those goals.

12
Regardless of the company, business development tends to hold the same structure, which I

sketched up quickly below.

Simply stated, the function of SALES is to sell directly to the end customer. The function of

business development is to work through partners to sell to the end customer, in a scalable way.

13
That last part is key.

Scalability is the differentiator. It allows a company to use pre-existing sales teams or

communities that a partner has developed to reach new audiences. Sales is very much an

equation of capacity, which is why sales teams tend to grow so large. Business development

teams, on the other hand, are typically very small, maintaining their small size by working

through existing partner infrastructures. The art of business development comes in identifying

partners that fit that description, while finding a way to provide value to the partner's end

customer and business.

You can see this relationship in a few of the examples I laid out in a previous post on the role of

business development at a startup.

Now, all of this isn't meant to de-value the function of SALES. Truth be told, I really respect

good salespeople. It's an extremely difficult career, one with constant denial and pressure to

succeed. Sales are hard, and should be respected when it's done at a high level. But the two are

very different, despite their apparent overlap.

Problems of the Industry

Planning a wedding isn’t like planning a conference or a trade show. There is one factor that

makes it unlike planning any other event – Emotion. Although you’ve got to take many of the

same details into account, Special Vivah tend to be extremely emotional affairs for everyone

involved. Therefore planning a wedding comes with its own unique set of roadblocks.

Here, straight from the mouths of wedding planning veterans are five of the biggest challenges

facing wedding planners today – and how you might deal with them.

Low-Grade Competition

Unlike corporate event management, there are fewer barriers to becoming a wedding planner. As

a result, the niche is flooded with inexperienced, untrained individuals who provide less than

stellar service and charge far too little for their efforts. It can be difficult for really talented,

experienced professionals to charge accordingly when clients are comparing apples to oranges.

“Take them under your wing and demonstrate that being ethical, professional, and investing in

their business is the right way to do it,” explains industry expert Alan Berg. “Show that

professional training and certification is an asset, not only to their business but to their clients. If

you really think that these newbie’s are taking business from you, then you’re not

MARKETING yourself very well.”

Takeaway: “You don’t sell planning services. You sell specifically you as the provider of those

services.”

17
Avoiding Bad Vendors

Most vendor and service provider categories in the wedding industry lack uniform standards.

Service and quality are hard to quantify and there is little to no regulation. Finding vendors that

have or lack ethics, quality, accountability, personality and experience can be a bit of a

crapshoot. Vendors may make any claims they wish.

Again we turn to Alan Berg who says simply only hire those that prove to meet your standards.

“If you don’t provide quality and service, the marketplace will eventually put you out of business

– it holds vendors accountable; you don’t need a governing body to do that. Quality and service

are totally in your control. Don’t wait for someone else to set a standard. Raise the bar so high

that your customers and prospects can’t imagine doing business with anyone but you.”

Unrealistic Wedding Day Expectations

Has Reality TV caused couples to set unrealistic expectations? This is tied to a trending concept

that you “get more than what you pay for.” There’s a perception of wedding planning that’s

absolute fiction; that without work, decoration, services, and money a venue is already paradise.

Or the idea that you can expect twelve cake tastings for free, or show up announced to preview a

venue, and so on.

How is a wedding planner to overcome the unrealistic demands, yet also make a couple feel

special?

“No wedding professional should have to endure mistreatment by any customer. It’s always our

right to say “no, I’m not taking that job.” The more experience you get, the more you can sense.

18
It’s also a matter of taking control of each customer and situation – that also comes with

experience.”

The Budget

This is one of the few challenges on the list that Special Vivah share in common with other

events. Proper budgeting of a wedding is a difficult task, particularly when weighing everyone’s

expectations. As a wedding planner, your job is to make sure the bride and groom get the best

“bang for their buck.” Tap into every contact you’ve made, and do everything you can to get a

discount – that’s part of the job, after all.

Your couple will have to make some difficult choices and remember Special Vivah are

emotional. Your job is to figure out the best possible options that work within the couple’s

budget.

22
SWOT analysis of the organization
A SWOT analysis, which examines strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats, is a

critical exercise for any business. For a wedding planner, this approach can help analyze

current operations, identify areas of opportunity and compete effectively against other

local wedding planners. A SWOT analysis helps to organize advertising objectives and

tactics to build a strategy that has a high level of impact.

Strengths

A wedding planner must first identify the strengths of the business before being able to

translate these advantages into business growth. These strengths could be years of

experience in the wedding industry, a background in interior design that translates into

wedding decor set-up, or even a vast network of vendors for clients can choose from. By

discerning what comparative advantage your business has in the marketplace, you can

begin to develop a strategy that highlights these strengths and conveys them to your

target market.

Weaknesses

Every business has weaknesses. By identifying them before your consumers do, you can

work to minimize their impact. For a wedding planner, you may determine that you have

a smaller staff than other local wedding planners, or you may have a higher price point.

These are not necessarily things you need to change in your business model, but being

aware of them can help you to craft advertising materials that downplay these potential

weaknesses. For example, you could spin "small staff" into "personal attention," which

gives the possible weakness a positive connotation for the consumer.

23
Opportunities

Identify areas that your wedding planning business can grow, or the opportunities in the

marketplace. For example, if outdoor Special Vivah are becoming more popular in your

area, and you have vast experience in planning these events, an array of outdoor wedding

venues you work with, or numerous wedding props suitable for an outdoor event, this

could be an opportunity for your business to grow. By identifying an opportunity in the

marketplace, you can exploit that opening by gearing your messages towards that target

market.

Threats

Threats differ from weaknesses in that a weakness is generally internal and a threat is

external. For example, if there is proprietary wedding planning software that your

competition has developed that could help them take away some of your potential clients,

that could be viewed as a threat. A do-it-yourself wedding magazine, or a website that

helps consumers and potential clients plan their wedding themselves, can also be viewed

as a threat to your business. Any outside force that could potentially minimize your flow

of business is considered a threat in your SWOT analysis and must be identified.

Awareness of potential threats can help you to plan for them in your strategy and

marketing tactics.

25
Java Technology

Java technology is both a programming language and a platform.

The Java Programming Language

The Java programming language is a high-level language that can be characterized by all

of the following buzzwords:

 Simple

 Architecture neutral

 Object oriented

 Portable

 Distributed

 High performance

 Interpreted

 Multithreaded

 Robust

 Dynamic

 Secure

With most programming languages, you either compile or interpret a program so that

you can run it on your computer. The Java programming language is unusual in that a

program is both compiled and interpreted. With the compiler, first you translate a

program into an intermediate language called Java byte codes —the platform-

independent codes interpreted by the interpreter on the Java platform. The interpreter

parses and runs each Java byte code instruction on the computer. Compilation

26
happens just once; interpretation occurs each time the program is executed. The

following figure illustrates how this works.

You can think of Java byte codes as the machine code instructions for the Java

Virtual Machine (Java VM). Every Java interpreter, whether it’s a development tool

or a Web browser that can run applets, is an implementation of the Java VM. Java

byte codes help make “write once, run anywhere” possible. You can compile your

program into byte codes on any platform that has a Java compiler. The byte codes

can then be run on any implementation of the Java VM. That means that as long as a

computer has a Java VM, the same program written in the Java programming

language can run on Windows 2000, a Solaris workstation, or on an iMac.

27
The Java Platform
A platform is the hardware or software environment in which a program runs. We’ve

already mentioned some of the most popular platforms like Windows 2000, Linux,

Solaris, and MacOS. Most platforms can be described as a combination of the

operating system and hardware. The Java platform differs from most other platforms

in that it’s a software-only platform that runs on top of other hardware-based

platforms.

The Java platform has two components:

 The Java Virtual Machine (Java VM)

 The Java Application Programming Interface (Java API)

You’ve already been introduced to the Java VM. It’s the base for the Java

platform and is ported onto various hardware-based platforms.

The Java API is a large collection of ready-made software components that

provide many useful capabilities, such as graphical user interface (GUI) widgets. The

Java API is grouped into libraries of related classes and interfaces; these libraries are

known as packages. The next section, What Can Java Technology Do? Highlights

what functionality some of the packages in the Java API provide.

The following figure depicts a program that’s running on the Java platform. As

the figure shows, the Java API and the virtual machine insulate the program from the

hardware.

28
Native code is code that after you compile it, the compiled code runs on a specific

hardware platform. As a platform-independent environment, the Java platform can be

a bit slower than native code. However, smart compilers, well-tuned interpreters, and

just-in-time byte code compilers can bring performance close to that of native code

without threatening portability.

What Can Java Technology Do?

The most common types of programs written in the Java programming language are

applets and applications. If you’ve surfed the Web, you’re probably already familiar

with applets. An applet is a program that adheres to certain conventions that allow it

to run within a Java-enabled browser.

However, the Java programming language is not just for writing cute, entertaining

applets for the Web. The general-purpose, high-level Java programming language is

also a powerful software platform. Using the generous API, you can write many

types of programs.

An application is a standalone program that runs directly on the Java platform. A

special kind of application known as a server serves and supports clients on a

network. Examples of servers are Web servers, proxy servers, mail servers, and print

29
servers. Another specialized program is a servlet. A servlet can almost be thought of

as an applet that runs on the server side. Java Servlets are a popular choice for

building interactive web applications, replacing the use of CGI scripts. Servlets are

similar to applets in that they are runtime extensions of applications. Instead of

working in browsers, though, servlets run within Java Web servers, configuring or

tailoring the server.

How does the API support all these kinds of programs? It does so with packages of

software components that provides a wide range of functionality. Every full

implementation of the Java platform gives you the following features:

 The essentials: Objects, strings, threads, numbers, input and output, data structures,

system properties, date and time, and so on.

 Applets: The set of conventions used by applets.

 Networking: URLs, TCP (Transmission Control Protocol), UDP (User Data gram

Protocol) sockets, and IP (Internet Protocol) addresses.

 Internationalization: Help for writing programs that can be localized for users

worldwide. Programs can automatically adapt to specific locales and be displayed in

the appropriate language.

 Security: Both low level and high level, including electronic signatures, public and

private key management, access control, and certificates.

 Software components: Known as JavaBeansTM, can plug into existing component

architectures.

 Object serialization: Allows lightweight persistence and communication via Remote

Method Invocation (RMI).

30
 Java Database Connectivity (JDBCTM): Provides uniform access to a wide range of

relational databases.

The Java platform also has APIs for 2D and 3D graphics, accessibility, servers,

collaboration, telephony, speech, animation, and more. The following figure depicts

what is included in the Java 2 SDK.

How Will Java Technology Change My Life?

We can’t promise you fame, fortune, or even a job if you learn the Java

programming language. Still, it is likely to make your programs better and requires

less effort than other languages. We believe that Java technology will help you do the

following:

 Get started quickly: Although the Java programming language is a powerful object-

oriented language, it’s easy to learn, especially for programmers already familiar

with C or C++.

 Write less code: Comparisons of program metrics (class counts, method counts, and

so on) suggest that a program written in the Java programming language can be four

times smaller than the same program in C++.

31
 Write better code: The Java programming language encourages good coding

practices, and its garbage collection helps you avoid memory leaks. Its object

orientation, its JavaBeans component architecture, and its wide-ranging, easily

extendible API let you reuse other people’s tested code and introduce fewer bugs.

 Develop programs more quickly: Your development time may be as much as twice

as fast versus writing the same program in C++. Why? You write fewer lines of code

and it is a simpler programming language than C++.

 Avoid platform dependencies with 100% Pure Java: You can keep your program

portable by avoiding the use of libraries written in other languages. The 100% Pure

JavaTM Product Certification Program has a repository of historical process manuals,

white papers, brochures, and similar materials online.

 Write once, run anywhere: Because 100% Pure Java programs are compiled into

machine-independent byte codes, they run consistently on any Java platform.

 Distribute software more easily: You can upgrade applets easily from a central

server. Applets take advantage of the feature of allowing new classes to be loaded

“on the fly,” without recompiling the entire program.

ODBC

Microsoft Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) is a standard programming

interface for application developers and database systems providers. Before ODBC

became a de facto standard for Windows programs to interface with database

systems, programmers had to use proprietary languages for each database they

wanted to connect to. Now, ODBC has made the choice of the database system

almost irrelevant from a coding perspective, which is as it should be. Application

developers have much more important things to worry about than the syntax that is

needed to port their program from one database to another when business needs

suddenly change.

Through the ODBC Administrator in Control Panel, you can specify the

particular database that is associated with a data source that an ODBC application

program is written to use. Think of an ODBC data source as a door with a name on it.

Each door will lead you to a particular database. For example, the data source named

Sales Figures might be a SQL Server database, whereas the Accounts Payable data

source could refer to an Access database. The physical database referred to by a data

source can reside anywhere on the LAN.

The ODBC system files are not installed on your system by Windows 95.

Rather, they are installed when you setup a separate database application, such as

SQL Server Client or Visual Basic 4.0. When the ODBC icon is installed in Control

Panel, it uses a file called ODBCINST.DLL. It is also possible to administer your

ODBC data sources through a stand-alone program called ODBCADM.EXE. There

is a 16-bit and a 32-bit version of this program and each maintains a separate list of

ODBC data sources.

From a programming perspective, the beauty of ODBC is that the application can be

written to use the same set of function calls to interface with any data source,

regardless of the database vendor. The source code of the application doesn’t change

whether it talks to Oracle or SQL Server. We only mention these two as an example.

There are ODBC drivers available for several dozen popular database systems. Even

Excel spreadsheets and plain text files can be turned into data sources. The operating

33
system uses the Registry information written by ODBC Administrator to determine

which low-level ODBC drivers are needed to talk to the data source (such as the

interface to Oracle or SQL Server). The loading of the ODBC drivers is transparent

to the ODBC application program. In a client/server environment, the ODBC API

even handles many of the network issues for the application programmer.

The advantages of this scheme are so numerous that you are probably

thinking there must be some catch. The only disadvantage of ODBC is that it isn’t as

efficient as talking directly to the native database interface. ODBC has had many

detractors make the charge that it is too slow. Microsoft has always claimed that the

critical factor in performance is the quality of the driver software that is used. In our

humble opinion, this is true. The availability of good ODBC drivers has improved a

great deal recently. And anyway, the criticism about performance is somewhat

analogous to those who said that compilers would never match the speed of pure

assembly language. Maybe not, but the compiler (or ODBC) gives you the

opportunity to write cleaner programs, which means you finish sooner. Meanwhile,

computers get faster every year.

JDBC

In an effort to set an independent database standard API for Java; Sun Microsystems

developed Java Database Connectivity, or JDBC. JDBC offers a generic SQL

database access mechanism that provides a consistent interface to a variety of

RDBMSs. This consistent interface is achieved through the use of “plug-in” database

connectivity modules, or drivers. If a database vendor wishes to have JDBC support,

he or she must provide the driver for each platform that the database and Java run on.

34
To gain a wider acceptance of JDBC, Sun based JDBC’s framework on ODBC. As

you discovered earlier in this chapter, ODBC has widespread support on a variety of

platforms. Basing JDBC on ODBC will allow vendors to bring JDBC drivers to

market much faster than developing a completely new connectivity solution.

JDBC was announced in March of 1996. It was released for a 90 day public review

that ended June 8, 1996. Because of user input, the final JDBC v1.0 specification was

released soon after.

The remainder of this section will cover enough information about JDBC for you to

know what it is about and how to use it effectively. This is by no means a complete

overview of JDBC. That would fill an entire book.

JDBC Goals

Few software packages are designed without goals in mind. JDBC is one that,

because of its many goals, drove the development of the API. These goals, in

conjunction with early reviewer feedback, have finalized the JDBC class library into

a solid framework for building database applications in Java.

The goals that were set for JDBC are important. They will give you some insight

as to why certain classes and functionalities behave the way they do. The eight

design goals for JDBC are as follows:

1. SQL Level API

The designers felt that their main goal was to define a SQL interface for Java.

Although not the lowest database interface level possible, it is at a low enough level

for higher-level tools and APIs to be created. Conversely, it is at a high enough level

for application programmers to use it confidently. Attaining this goal allows for

35
future tool vendors to “generate” JDBC code and to hide many of JDBC’s

complexities from the end user.

2. SQL Conformance

SQL syntax varies as you move from database vendor to database vendor. In an

effort to support a wide variety of vendors, JDBC will allow any query statement to

be passed through it to the underlying database driver. This allows the connectivity

module to handle non-standard functionality in a manner that is suitable for its users.

3. JDBC must be implemental on top of common database interfaces

The JDBC SQL API must “sit” on top of other common SQL level APIs. This

goal allows JDBC to use existing ODBC level drivers by the use of a software

interface. This interface would translate JDBC calls to ODBC and vice versa.

4. Provide a Java interface that is consistent with the rest of the Java system

Because of Java’s acceptance in the user community thus far, the designers feel

that they should not stray from the current design of the core Java system.

5. Keep it simple

This goal probably appears in all software design goal listings. JDBC is no

exception. Sun felt that the design of JDBC should be very simple, allowing for only

one method of completing a task per mechanism. Allowing duplicate functionality

only serves to confuse the users of the API.

6. Use strong, static typing wherever possible

Strong typing allows for more error checking to be done at compile time; also,

less error appear at runtime.

36
7. Keep the common cases simple

Because more often than not, the usual SQL calls used by the programmer are

simple SELECT’s, INSERT’s, DELETE’s and UPDATE’s, these queries should be

simple to perform with JDBC. However, more complex SQL statements should also

be possible.

37
Chapter 2: Literature Review
Although it seems a simple question, the answer to

“What Does a Wedding Planner do?”

Changes with each and every client a wedding planner decides to work with. This

unpredictability is one of the main reasons the wedding planning field is so attractive for many.

Market characteristics and trend Market size

Indian weddings are getting bigger and better. The expanding wedding market in India is pegged

at Rs.50000 crore by industry sources and is growing annually by 25-30%

History

The grandeur and charisma of Indian weddings has enticed and enraptured many. The portrayal

of the warmth, fun and frolic of Indian wedding owes a lot to Bollywood.

Market stage

It’s a new market. It is a latest trend to hire wedding party coordinators to take care of the entire

wedding event.

Market needs

The market needs for wedding planning services are strongly shaped by the customers desire to

have a perfectly planned and executed wedding ceremony. Although major customer segments,

brides and grooms and family members, plan and budget for the wedding ceremony as far as a

year or more in advance. They often realize that they cannot make all the necessary preparations

by themselves in a cost effective manner. Strongly affected by the established social values, such

38
customers seek professional advice to ensure that all the important aspects of the wedding

ceremony meet or exceed perceived expectations.

Market potential

The wedding scenario in India is more than just getting married. The exotic destinations, like

palaces in Rajasthan and the successful usage of these palaces in the form of imaginative theme

weddings by Laxmi Mittal and Raveena Tandon have set up a world stage for Indian weddings.

India’s burgeoning middle class- now 300 million strong – are turning weddings into showcases

of their growing disposable incomes and newfound appetites for the goodies of the global market

place. The change is visible in middle class who want the flavor and ambience of elite weddings.

Seeing the world around they too are spending and want the best available. It sort of coincided

with the rise in disposable incomes of the rich and upper middle Indian class and over the years

weddings have become aspiration. Your wedding should be better than your neighbor’s.

INDUSTRY ANALYSIS:

Wedding planners belong to event management industry which is growing at fast and steady rate.

While this industry is still evolving, Indian event managers and wedding planners have clearly

demonstrated their capabilities in successfully managing several big fat weddings and mega

national and international events over the past few years. In fact, event managers and wedding

planners are also developing properties around events. With the rising incomes, people are also

developing properties around events. With rising incomes, people are also spending more on

wedding, parties and other personal functions. However, issues like high entertainment taxes in

certain states, lack of world-class in fracture and the unorganized nature of most event

39
management companies, continue to somewhat check the potential growth in this segment of the

industry.

Industry size

The size of the organized live entertainment business estimated in 2013 was around INR 9.4

billion having grown by around 17% from the previous year that is 2012. It was estimated that

the industry will grow at a CAGR of around 19% over the next five years to approximately INR

22 billion by 2016. This growth is mainly on account of increased marketing budgets, and an

increased focus on the importance of live entertainment, as part of the promotional spends of

corporate.

Weddings have forever been a significant and important celebration for many people around the

world. They celebrate the binding love between two people and the journey into a new life

together. Often times, weddings are events that brides have been dreaming about and looking

forward to their entire lives. Many brides would even agree that, “a wedding is the celebration of

a lifetime, and whether that celebration is a grand fete for hundreds or an intimate gathering of

family and friends, it is a day when dreams come true” (Davis, 2000, p. 8). This idealistic,

romantic view about weddings has not always been the way it is today. For much of human

history it was rare that love was the main reason for people to get married. Until very recently,

many civilizations believed in the economic functions of a marriage over personal satisfactions

(Coontz, 2006). Marriages were made for family and economic benefits, with the hope that the

marriage would result in love later on (Coontz). As a result of this traditional approach, arranged

marriages were very common for many years. Only in recent years did the idea of marriage for

love become popular. This new concept of a wedding speaks to many brides and encourages

40
them to make their fantasy weddings come true. The feeling of a dream wedding as a necessity

intensifies the lavishness of weddings each year. Significantly more money is spent to create a

dream wedding (Otnes & Pleck, 2003). The average budget for a wedding is now estimated at

nearly $27,000 (Grossman, 2012). Couples are going above and beyond to make their weddings

perfect. Every year is different when it comes to creating a dream wedding. In order to keep up

with the changes, brides now tend to follow popular trends throughout their planning process.

Many couples look to trends to help them with their wedding planning needs. According to

Coontz (2005), “weddings today are the first chance a couple gets to announce to the world their

chosen joint identity” (p. 82). The idea of a joint identity encourages brides to utilize certain

popular trends to display this identity in the most unique way possible (Coontz). Trends in

weddings can range from smaller style trends to broader logistics trends. Each of these different

trends can greatly influence how a bride and groom choose to develop the wedding of their

dreams. This study analyzes what wedding planners believe will be the wedding industry trends

within the next five years. It will be beneficial to new wedding planners and brides planning their

weddings. Within the competitively individualistic wedding industry, any type of wedding

planner, bride or professional, can utilize this trend information to make creative, well-informed

wedding decisions.

Wedding trends. Wedding trends change throughout the years and are for the most part greatly

influenced by many societal factors. These factors and trends influence many couples’ choices

when it comes to what they want in their weddings. The following section will present

information on the different smaller and broader trends of weddings. The smaller trends

predicted for 2013 are much different than trends of the past. In particular, wedding colors,

themes, floral arrangements, and beauty styles have become center-stage trends. According to

41
Winikka and Ma (2013), a “homestead elegance” and “dinner party chic” theme has emerged for

2013 (p. 5). These wedding themes incorporate natural outdoor details with elegant,

sophisticated elements to create a unique mixed theme that can be seen within all of the

emerging trends. In particular, the themes are tied together by a neutral color palette that is set

off by lush, romantic floral arrangements of peonies and garden roses (Griffiths, 2013). The

bridal beauty styles also follow along with these popular themes. Brides are now most likely to

be seen in fitted silk 1920s style dresses complemented by a refined rustic hairstyle that displays

the mixture between "homestead elegance" and "dinner party chic" (Winikka & Ma, 2013). The

smaller, popular trends can seem the most important to brides, but the broader trends are just as

important to consider when planning a wedding. Trends like the budget allotted and venue

location can greatly affect the decisions made regarding the wedding planning (Daniels &

Loveless, 2007).

The wedding budget can be the biggest limiting factor for a bride when planning a wedding. The

budget is considered in every decision about the wedding and determines how big and

extravagant or simple and small the wedding must be (Engstrom, 2008).

42
Feasibility study
Feasibility study is a process to check possibilities of system development. It is a method to

check various different requirements and availability of financial & technical resources.

Before starting the process various parameters must be checked like:

 Estimated finance is there or not?

 The man power to operate the system is there or not?

 The man power is trained or not?

All the above conditions must be satisfied to start the project. This is why in depth analysis of

feasibility is carried out.

There are three different ways feasibility can be tested

1) Economical Feasibility

2) Technical Feasibility

3) Operational Feasibility.

Economical Feasibility:

In economical feasibility, analysis of the cost of the system is carried out. The system should be

only developed if it is going to give returned the current manual system user can get the price

only by purchasing the newspapers. In addition if he/she wants to see archives of particular

equity then he has to refer to all the old newspapers. For research reports he has to buy another

magazine. So Instead of buying no of magazines user has to just go online and with a single click

he can get whatever information he wants. So our project of online share news passes the test of

economical feasibility.

43
Technical Feasibility:

It is basically used to see existing computer, hardware and software etc, weather it is sufficient

or additional equipments are required? Minimum System Requirement is such that it can be

affordable by of the user who is having computer. All the user requires is compatible browser

and .net framework installed so our system is fully technical feasible.

Operational Feasibility:

Once the system is designed there must be trained and expert operator. If there are not trained

they should given training according to the needs of the system.

From the user’s perspective our system fully operational feasible as it just requires some

knowledge of computer. Operators only need add daily prices of various equities and there are

enough validations available so operator does not require any special technical knowledge. So

our system also passes the test of operational feasibility.

SOFTWARE MATRICES

Estimation:-

In Web engineering, the metrics have three goals:

1 To provide the indication of the quality from the technical point of view.

2 To provide the basis for effort estimation.

3 To provide an indication of the success from the business point of view.

44

Chapter 3: Research Methodology

Research Methodology is the specification of method of acquiring the information needed to

structure or solve the problem in hand. It is not only concerned to find out the decision of the

fact, but also building up to date knowledge and to discover the new facts involved through the

process of dynamic change in the society.

Statement of the Problem

This study was limited by the following factors:

1. The subjects did not represent all of the wedding planners throughout Delhi.

2. The instrument was not tested for reliability and validity.

3. Subjects were easily able to delete or ignore the survey since it was sent

through email.

Objectives & Scope of Study

The purpose of this study was to assess the future trends in wedding planning

among selected Delhi wedding planners.

Managerial usefulness of study

This study attempted to answer the following research questions:

1. What do wedding planners see as current and future trends in wedding

planning?

2. What current wedding planning trends are predicted to change the most

within the next five years?

3. Do trend predictions differ based on where wedding planners are located

throughout Delhi?

47
4. What aspects of weddings do wedding planners consider trends?

Type of Research and Research Design

The research design is the conceptual structure within which research is

conducted; it constitutes the blueprint for the collection, measurement and

analysis of data. The present research being conducted followed “Descriptive

Research” as it describes the Trends of Wedding Planners. A descriptive

research is one in which state of affair is described as it exists at present. The

researcher has no control over the variables.

Sampling unit:

Each individual of the age of 18 years and above and living in New Delhi.

Sample Size:

The sample size consisted of 100 people.

Sampling Technique:

Convenience Sampling has been used to collect the sample.

Data collection method

Information will be collected from both Primary and Secondary Sources.

 Primary Source:

The data has been collected from primary source by way of questionnaire

which included Open-ended, Dichotomous and Multiple choice questions.

 Secondary Source:

Secondary Data has been collected through Magazines and Web sites.

48
Sampling Plan

Sampling is an effective step in the collection of Primary data and has a great

influence on the quality of results. It is a definite plan for obtaining a sample

from a given population. The sampling plan includes universe, population,

and sampling unit, sampling technique and sample size.

Universe:

All the people of the age of 18 years and above and are Unmarried.

Population:

All the people of the age of 18 years and above and living in New Delhi.

49
Limitations of Study

 No study is complete in itself however good it may be, and every study has some

limitations. The limitations of this study can be summarized as follows:

 Owing to the time constraint the study was restricted to New Delhi city. A wider

geographical coverage would have made it a more representative study.

 Although every effort has been made to include the respondents belonging to various age

- group, even then the sample may not be truly representative of the universe.

 The size of sample taken was very small and hence the results of this study might not be

fully reliable for generalization.

 Every effort was made to extract the correct information from the respondents, but the

ignorance on their part could have played its role.

 Best efforts have been made to incorporate all the important variables in the study yet

chances of some of the variables not appearing in the study cannot be ruled out.

 Open-ended questions were added to provide flexibility to the respondents but many of

them were left unanswered.

Chapter 5: Findings, Conclusion and Suggestions

Findings
The study was conducted to know the Trends of wedding planners. By analyzing the data
collected, following are the findings from this study:

 Majority of the respondents between 18 to less than 35years were unmarried,

which was useful because they are the suitable respondents for study the emerging

trends of wedding planners.

 Majority of the respondents (88%) responded that they are aware about wedding

planners whereas 12% are not aware about wedding planners.

 When asked from the respondents about the source of awareness about wedding

planners 20% respondents considered ads as an informative source followed by

32% from friends whereas 26% get information from their relatives and 22% from

others.

 95% of respondents were interested in knowing about wedding planners whereas

5% are not.

 Another observation made from the respondents the factors that affect them most

are: Budget, food quality, wedding dress, venue, followed by other factors.

 The study has concluded that most of the respondents came to know about

wedding planners through friends, families and advertisements and the rest who

don’t know about Wedding Planners are very much interested to know about

them.

 So, Wedding Planners, not just have to perform for good word of mouth

marketing but also need to advertise properly so as to reach and tap the desired

clientele.
68
 The main focus when selecting a Wedding Planner in Delhi is given on the

Budget, Catering and Venue. Who can provide the best food at the best place at

the best price?

 So, the Wedding Planner need to focus on quality of food should provide options

for venue and plan everything according to the budget.

69
Conclusion
There comes a time in our lives when we meet the right person, fall in love, get

engaged and begin to plan a wedding. Most of the couples hire a wedding planner, in

order to avoid stress so that they can enjoy the most memorable day of their life. The

wedding planner designs the wedding according to the taste and sensibilities of the

bride and groom. As soon as a couple decides to get married, they’re faced with

heavy questions like the budget of the wedding, venue, themes, and people invited to

the wedding. This is the time of your life when you should be reveling in your love

and not dodging and handling meetings and answering emails. Reasons why people

today are interested in hiring a wedding planner-

Stress-

When you’re away relaxing and awaiting for the biggest moment of your life, your

planner is the one who will respond to every emails, invites, handle the vendors,

worry about food and beverages. They will coordinate all the meetings, and makes

sure everything runs smoothly on your wedding day so that you can be among your

loved ones.

Prioritization-

Wedding planners are always the ones who will ask you the right question at the

right time. They don’t waste your money or time on trivialities. He’s the one who will

remember all the details and will offer guidance just in case you get overwhelmed and

forget about your budget. It is easy to make an uninformed decision, in between the

70
wedding chaos, but a planner will serve as a great resource as they know the

acceptable range of what a service is worth.

Relationship with vendors-

Usually a planner is in a position to work on multiple events and they have a

established relationship with vendors- Photographers, florists, caterers etc. As a result

of this relationship, a vendor is most likely to negotiate well with a planner than a

normal couple, as they believe they can get repeated business from the former.

Experience-

A planner is a person who knows what things should cost you in every range.

There’re less chances of getting duped or cheated when you hire a planner. They

know which vendors are to be trusted, what questions they should be asked, how to

schedule or reschedule an event, get your guests fed and other responsibilities which

you otherwise who have fret over. They’ve already done it several times and knows

the pros and cons of the wedding business. Wedding planners are in rage not only in

Delhi, but India as well. The availability and increase in vendors have called out for

the need of a wedding planner to pick the best and make you wedding day

memorable. They not only manage food, flowers, and cakes but also make sure every

guest goes home with a smile, even if that requires them to do odd jobs. They have a

vision about the wedding day and thrive to achieve it successfully.

71
Suggestion
 Wedding Planning is a new and growing business in India and so in Delhi.

The companies need to majorly focus on the following aspects:

 Marketing and promotion of the business as very few people know about

wedding planners.

 Quality work as most of the business comes through word of mouth.

 Create a marketing strategy that's low on cost, high on returns.

 Develop a company image that reflects the style you want to convey.
