Planets and Stars are often mistaken for each other because it is not
easy to tell them apart. But the following difference in appearance may help.
Stars are so far from the Earth that they appear only as points if light.
This is probably the reason why the stars of Bethlehem is often illustrated with
elongated points of light. As the light from the stars strikes the atmosphere,
the warm and cold air current make it unsteady. Thus, we see stars twinkling
from afar. The planets on the other hand are near the earth. Except for Pluto
as, the planets appear as discs. Since there is no light to strike the
atmosphere, planets do not twinkle. Instead, they shine with a steady light.
