Dear Sir/Madam,

It is our pleasure to inform you that you are selected as a participant for the UGC-sponsored Orientation
Programme (OP-117) to be held from 02nd to 29th August 2018 at UGC-HRDC, Gauhati University. Here are a few
points for your kind attention:
1. You are requested to send the confirmation copy attached herewith urgently so that it reaches this office within 15-days of
issue of this letter; failing to this your selection may be cancelled. However, prior confirmation through email;
ugcascgu@rediffmail.com may also be sent.

2. You are requested to report for registration (subject to your confirmation) at 09.00 a.m. on 2nd August 2018 at this
centre with the following documents: (i) A copy of passport size photograph with name written clearly on its back, (ii)
Official release letter from the Principal/Head of Institution for the duration of the course, and (iii) A Write-up as ‘Teaching
Assessment’ material in proper format (title, text, references etc.) neatly typewritten on one side of A4 paper with single
spacing within 1000 words, 12 font size. Topics of the ‘Teaching Assessment’ as mentioned bellow.

3. As per the clause No. 2.18 of the minute, 527th meeting (dtd. 22/12/17, page 11) of UGC and LPPMC of HRDC-GU
Resolution No. 2(1)on Financial Matter dt. 3/3/16, the entertainment of TA & DA by the participants has been curtailed
temporarily. As such, each participant has to pay Rs. 4800.00 (Rupees four thousand eight hundred) only as token charge for
their Tea & Lunch within the course period(24- working days)at the time of Registration.

4. Participants staying at HRDC Guest House need to pay Rs. 6000/- as Guest House maintenance charge and dinner etc.
additionally.

5. Please join the course with a high degree of motivation, preparedness to interact actively with the Resource
persons/Experts and the Peers. You will be required to take part in a TEACHING ASSESSMENT session. For this, please
prepare appropriate material on the topic given below for ~10 min presentation followed by 2 min. interactions as a
classroom Lecture. A copy of the same (within 1000 words) need to be submitted at the time of registration as mentioned in
clause 1.

6. Participants will be assessed during the course in the following manner: (i) Objective/Subjective Assessment on Course
Content-40 Marks, (ii) General Awareness assessment- 15 Marks (iii) Home assignment- 5 marks, (iv) Teaching
Assessment- 20 marks, (v) Project Formulation and Presentation- 10 Marks, and, (iv) Holistic Response (punctuality,
regularity, initiative, conduct, responsiveness, etc.) -10 Marks. On the basis of the assessment, grades will be awarded as
A (75% or above), B (60 to < 75%), C(50 to < 60%), and D (< 50%) .
8. There will be 4 academic sessions every day between 9.30 a.m. and 4.45 p.m. starting with breakfast at 8.00 a.m. at the
UGC-HRDC Guest House. Working Lunch and Tea will be served at the HRDC Guest House. Attendance in all sessions and
other programs organized in this connection with the course is mandatory, and award of certificate is subject to fulfillment of
this condition. No leave of any kind is admissible during the course except on personal emergency on medical grounds. Each
participant will be required to pay Rs. 1000.00 during registration as Computer Lab and Service fee. Course syllabus/
curriculum would be in accordance to UGC’s new guideline.

Component A: Awareness of Linkages between Society, Environment, Development and Education
This component should aim at helping the teacher to realize the larger context of education and the role of a teacher in
society. Some illustrative topics to be coveredare:
i. Role of Intellectual in Society
ii Secularism, egalitarian society, multilingualism, multiple cultures,
iii. National integration : Challenges and Response,
iv. Empowerment and Social Justice : Women, tribes and marginal social classes
v. Environmental awareness, Sustainable Development and Biodiversity
vi. Economic issues – poverty, unemployment, rural development, and current economic trends,
vii. Modernity in India, Nature and Issues
viii. Global peace and Non-violence : Current Challenges
ix. Human Rights
x. Media and Society
xi. Science and Society
xii. Globalization, nature and impact,
xiii. Public interest movements (PIL, consumer protection, judicial activism, etc.)

Component B: Philosophy of Education, Indian Education System and Pedagogy


This component should aim at imparting basic skills and sensitivities that a teacher needs for effective classroom
teaching. Some of the illustrative topics are:
i. Philosophy of education: Aims at value-based education; role of social and educational institutions, comparative
educational systems, internationalization of education
ii. Indian education system, policies, commissions programmes and planning; organisational structure, university
autonomy
iii. Economics of education and human resource development: resource mobilizations
iv. Quality assurance in higher education: Indicators Assessment
v. Learner and the learning process: Understanding the adolescent learner, motivation, interests, human
development, memory, aptitudes, intelligence, learning styles
vi. Methods and materials of teaching: Prescribed texts, effective classroom teaching techniques, and
assignments, micro & skills of teaching
vii. Technology in teaching: Concept of teaching, levels of teaching and phases of teaching; audio, video, educational
films, ICT, computers, etc.
viii. Curriculum design: Approaches, curriculum development, needs-based courses and remedial courses
ix. Evaluation and feedback: Measurement and examination reforms, including setting question papers
x. Alternate methods of learning: Distance and open learning, self-learning, informal learning, virtual
classrooms, online resources & networking, open educational resources (OER)
xi. Integrated Knowledge Systems; Interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary approaches.
Component C: ICT in Higher Education Resource Awareness and Knowledge Generation
This component should aim at helping the teachers to be self-sufficient, and continuously abreast of new knowledge and
techniques, processes, methods and sources of knowledge. Some of the illustrative topics are:
i. Information and Communication Technology: Effective use of technology for teaching learning and evaluation
ii. Documentation centre: Information networks, information super highway, national and international databases
iii. Libraries: Reference material, bibliographies, encyclopedia, periodicals, digital library
vi. Industry-university linkages
v. Research: Research projects, sponsoring agencies, academic writing and publication, etc.
vi. Institutions: Apex and specialized institutions, museums, laboratories, centers of excellence, etc.
vii. e-learning, content development management: E-content development & MOOCs
viii. Open source Software Resources and its Utilities
x. Virtual Class Room – Setup and Usage
Component D: Management and Personality Development
Under this component teachers should be familiarized with the organisation and management of the college/university.
They should be made aware of the ways in which they may develop their own personalities. Illustrative topics may be:
i. Communication skills: Verbal and non-verbal, Soft skills
ii. Thinking skills and scientific temper
iii. Creativity
iv. Leadership, team building and work culture
v. Administrative skills: Decision-making, service rules, human relations and interpersonal effectiveness
vi. Human Resource Management
vii. Educational management: Institutional management, management of committees, examinations, hobby clubs, sports
and co-curricular activities
viii. Student guidance and counseling
ix. Mental health: Attitudes and values
x. Career planning, time management
xi. Teacher effectiveness: Qualities of an effective teacher, code of conduct, accountability and empowerment.
