Weebly Writing Portfolio Reflection: Rhetorical Analysis Essay

1. What was the assignment? How well did you meet the expectations of the rubric?

I felt that i met the expectations of the rubric since i used two piece of evidence per paragraph
along with the use of rhetoric to explain the analysis of each body paragraph. I also felt that i
had a strong introductory paragraph to support my claim made.

2. How prepared were you to complete this assignment? Reflect on your work leading up to the
essay (QWs, organizers, discussions).

I felt that i was somewhat prepared but i could have prepared more since i did not complete the
first quickwhite.

3. How would you do things differently during the pre-work?

I would actually not miss class and complete all the quick writes and graphic organizers before
hand even when i know i am going to miss class.

Essay Reflection

1. Was this essay easy or difficult for you? Why?

Personally for me, i believe the essay was somewhat difficult for me. This was because i did not
complete the first quickwrite , and i felt like if i did i could have incorporated it into my essay
and the analysis of the text. The outline provided for the essay helped me establish my ideas on
the prompt of the essay, and overall helped to guide me with what was needed in my essay. I also
found that finding quotes from the text to support an idea came more naturally than analyzing it
and evaluating it.

2. How did you come up with your thesis?

I came up with the thesis that Dr Martin Luther clearly exhibits the best example that uses
rhetoric in order to advance his purpose since you can even see today he left a mark on the world
we live in. I came up with this, because in his letter, i constantly observed that he used each
different form of rhetoric in order to better establish his ideas and reasoning to support the claims
he made. This was shown because he used this to establish his credibility as an important leader
in a major organization, and in church, he was also uses pathos when he uses his emotions he felt
about other major oppression like the kind Hitler inflicted, and lastly he used logos to show how
he could use reasoning to show how he is equal to the clergymen.

3. Would you change it now that we have held our paideia? Why or why not?
I actually would not have changed my views on the question after we had the paideia. This is
because i still strongly believe that King provided the best use of rhetoric throughout the text to
support his claims made. When i compared his text to other ones i still found that his text
provided a greater reason for seeking justice and equality.
