For my senior project I spend around 190 hours shadowing, doing my product, and

researching my essay. I spent around 2 hours researching about the death ratio in construction

and how it can be prevented by making stricter safety regulations, doing more apprenticeships,

and have more real life accident scenarios. Then I spent 8 hours making my product. First I

made my bridge with the environment and then making the spreadsheet of the prices of

materials and how much it would cost. For my shadowing I spent 180 hours shadowing 2

different managers in the commercial and civil divisions.

I faced a lot of challenges while during my senior project one was during my shadowing

there were a lot of days where there would be alot of rain and I wouldn’t be able to come that

day to shadow since I would be in a dangerous situation. Another problem was on some days I

would have to sleep for a few hours and then get back up just to go to the place again that was

located 30 miles outside of Sioux Falls. My final challenge was my product since I wanted to get

both divisions into my product, but I had to choose the division that would have a more visually

appealing product. I chose the civil division because I got to be apart of a bidding that involved a

town and the company I shadowed so I got to see what they did for a model and how they

priced their things.

To manage my time I planned to stay organized. I would get things done on the date it

was due and made sure they were done properly. I also would work on my project whenever I

would get time to work on it. I did know that my project would take a lot of time so I had to be

organized to work on my project.

I learned while shadowing that you need to communicate and have team chemistry.

When working you don’t get to pick the best guys to work with so when they start doing things

that you don’t want them to do. Even with a terrible crew you can have a great team chemistry.

With team chemistry you can do tasks at a faster rate when everyone is doing things at the

same pace and doing it correctly.

I plan to use these skills while working in the future. I believe that I communicate very

well, but communicating to much can be bad at the same time I would just need to communicate

over the basic things that would need to get done for the day. Having team chemistry can also

go a long way when you have the people you can get along with. I believe that have great team

chemistry will create a bond with people and they will respect you as you respect them.

I think my presentation will be quite interesting if you don’t know what construction

management is. I think I need to memorize my presentation more and get more information into

my slides so my panel members can understand what I’m saying. I believe that my panel

members will gain more information on how construction management works and how they get

things done. Also I think they will be very interested in why I want to go into construction

management.I have always wanted to go into construction as a child but why not go into a field

where I can use my communication skills.

I believe that all of the hard work I have put into this project I would grade my self an A.

Before doing all of my stuff for my senior project I had more than expected for shadowing I

shadowed for about 180 hours. Also I think that my product would show on how much I do care

about that field I am going into. While doing my research essay I thought more about safety for

others than myself since people go to work not knowing that they are doing things so dangerous

that they don’t believe that they should follow protocol and they should use their common sense.
