INTRODUCTION

Education is said to be the powerful weapon that can change the world. It has become the

sole need of an individual to live in this generation. It is the most vital thing in life as far as the

future of an individual is concerned. People accord with high respect and admiration to

individuals who have attained so much because of good education. It is the number one (1)

poverty and ignorance fighter. One must become globally competitive and productive to

overcome this world’s problems and circumstances. Nowadays, people are facing poverty,

unemployment and underemployment due to lack of proper education. This makes education

crucial to every individual.

A life without education is a worst life to live these days. People are struggling because

they do not have enough background of what to do and how to do a certain task that would make

their lives at ease. That is why the government is giving a big amount of budget and exerting a

lot of effort for the field of education all for the purpose of providing quality education

accessible to all. In spite of the fact that everyone –rich and poor individuals can have access to

education, there are still youths who neglect schooling for a number of reasons. The number of

out of school youths proliferates and it merely affects the nation’s progress and economy.

That thing is quite alarming. Seeing individuals who just stay at home with nothing to do

is not a good thing to ponder upon. As what Dr. Jose Rizal said, “The youth is the hope of the

nation.” How could this be for real if this is the situation of the current generation? Many people

consider the out of school youths as someone unproductive and bootless persons that live

dependently from their parents. They don’t know that they are once students, once educated and

that they have learned something before. They may have failed to complete their education in the

formal system but that is due to various valid reasons.

 Most common factor that affects education is poverty. Because of this, the youths of

today’s generation are force to work on any kind of job. Instead of spending their time in school,

they spend it in working to earn a living and some are just spending it together with their peers

seeking for pleasures. But there are some who still strive hard in working that will help them to

enroll for the next school-year. But for some, they believe that education may save a person from

slavery that is why they are serious on their studies.

This study aims to know and identify the factors and reasons behind the life of the out-of-

school youths regarding their educational status. This is conducted by the surveyors for them to

see the abilities and capabilities that remain from the out-of-school youths that would help them

regain their formal education.
