GOVERNMENT OF INDIA

OFFICE OF THE DIRECTOR GENERAL OF CIVIL AVIATION

TECHNICAL CENTRE, OPP SAFDARJUNG AIRPORT, NEW DELHI.

PUBLIC NOTICE
AV.14027/AAC/2012-AT-1
23rd August 2017

Subject: Mandatory equipage of GAGAN on the aircraft to be registered in

India.

With the launch of GAGAN, India has become the fourth country in the world to
have satellite-based navigation system technology. However, most aircraft currently
registered in India are not equipped to utilise this technology. Subpara (d) of para 14
of the National Civil Aviation Policy states “All aircraft being registered in India from
1st January 2019 will mandatorily have to be GAGAN enabled.”

In view of the above, all the aircraft being imported for registration on or after
01.01.2019 shall be required to be suitably equipped with GAGAN equipment.
Accordingly, a provision to this effect has been included in the relevant Air Transport
Circular 02/2017 (revising the existing ATC 01/2016) containing the procedure for
obtaining permission for import/acquisition of aircraft.
