Abstract
Simple past tense is one of the grammar topics taught to Year 3 pupils. They have problem in understanding
simple past tense rules since English is not their mother tongue. The main problem discussed in this study was
to determine whether the use of UNOPOLY game was effective in teaching simple past tense to Year 3 pupils
and the objectives is to find out whether UNOPOLY game help to improve Year 3 pupils’ understanding on
simple past tense and to examine how UNOPOLY game helps in teaching simple past tense among Year 3
pupils. This study has used through action research consisting which consists of four steps; planning, acting,
observing, and reflecting. The data collection method used in this research is reflective journal, semi-structured
interview and a survey. The reflective journal is to identify the weaknesses during the teaching and learning
session. Then, a semi-structured interview session will be carried out involving a few respondents. After that, a
questionnaire with a total of 5 questions will be distributed to all the participants. The data from the interview
will be audio recorded and transcribed to be analysed while the data collected from the questionnaire will be
analysed using Microsoft Excel and the table or graph will be constructed based on the results gained.
