3.0 Procedure:
3.1 Pre-operational and 3M/6M/1Y Inspection
Pre- Operational Inspection by the crane operator will be performed prior to use.
3M, 6M and 1Y inspections of the crane will be carried out by a qualified inspector from
external company.
If they need to operate the crane for any procedure, they should read and understand
the operator´s manual and the operating instructions in the crane´s load capacity chart.

Workplan for Inspection and Maintenance on Mobile Cranes
Pollution Prevention
Use Trays to contain any possible spill or leak while performing the maintenance.
Have a spill kit ready available or nearby.
Segregate and dispose contaminated materials and other wastes in their
corresponding bins as per Plant Waste Management Procedure (ENV-000-PRO-
0005).
When removing a hydraulic hose or any other type of hose containing fluids, it is
necessary to drain it properly and place a cap at the end of it to prevent the
release of any fluid.
Hazardous liquid waste must be placed in different containers depending of its
kind in order to avoid the mixing of products with different characteristics.
Containers must be in good conditions,
Keep the work area clean and orderly.
Isolation / Immobilization
Hydraulic systems operate under high pressures. Shut the system down and relieve
system pressure before opening any part of the system that is under pressure. Do not
allow spray from any high pressure leak to contact any part of the body, as serious
injection injuries may result. Pumps, valves and motor may become hot; be cautious
of incidental contact between bare skin and hot surfaces. Keep hands and clothing
away from moving parts of the system.
Before repairing or removing any components connected to hydraulic, make sure the
lines are depressurized. Also, before repairing or removing any electrical component,
de-energize the electrical circuit and attach an out-of-service tag.
Isolations need to be specified. Isolations need to be allocated to named competent
individuals and wherever possible, isolators should be locked off. Equipment should
be “checked for dead” before work commences, as with any electrical isolation.
Ensure all LOTO devices are correctly placed before beginning the maintenance.
All personnel to apply their personal padlocks and tags onto the lock box.
Access
Permanent access steps or ladders should be provided where possible, particularly in
locations where planned maintenance would take place. In other areas, a manlift may
be used but note that it is strongly recommended that people should not climb out of
a manlift to gain access onto a crane.
Use of portable ladders should be considered only in exceptional circumstances and
if no other safer alternative is practicable
Do consider how tools and equipment will be taken onto the crane. Workers should
not carry items in their hands while climbing ladders.
Fall Protections
Falls can occur when accessing the crane as well as when working on it, so all
circumstances need to be considered.
Businesses should seek advice from competent people as to the most appropriate
type of equipment for their scenarios. There are requirements for maintenance and
inspection of such equipment, and any users need to be enabled for work at height
Some tasks, such as work on cross travel components, inevitably require people to
go near an unprotected edge. In these circumstances, fall protection / prevention
measures are necessary.
The Work at Height Regulations requires suitable emergency procedures to be in
place. Where fall restraint (i.e. prevention) can’t be used and fall protection (i.e. fall
arrest) equipment is in use, procedures need to be in place to rescue anyone who
has fallen and is suspended from the crane.
Functional testing
It is often the case that tests need to be carried out with the power on and,
occasionally, with guards removed or panels open. This may be part of the fault-
finding process or testing following repair. Such tests need to be properly controlled.
Ensure responsibilities are clearly allocated and understood – who is in charge, who
will control the crane, what is the communication protocol, who will act as lookout etc.
If the test is done with someone on the crane, consider their safety and implement
effective controls. Consider such issues as fall prevention, potential to strike
overhead objects such as roof stanchions / trusses, stability of tools and equipment,
etc.
The maintenance personnel must be certified to operate the crane.
8.2 Training
The executants must follow PTW Training and Zero Energy Isolation Plan Training, Work at
Height
This job requires the proper use of PPE in process area such as Fire Retardant clothes, leather
gloves or latex gloves for oil and grease applications, hard hat, safety shoes, safety glasses, ear
plugs or ear muff.
Work in an area surrounding that is dry, well lit, ventilated, and free from
clutter, loose tools, and parts. Be aware of hazardous conditions that can
exist
