About The Book:

Frankenstein is a fictional character who creates a monster in hope of creating
life. Victor Frankenstein builds the creature in his laboratory through an
ambigous method consisting of chemistry and alchemy. Shelley describes the
monster as hideously ugly, but sensitive and emotional. The monster attempts
to fit into human society but is shunned which leads him to seek revenge
against Frankenstein.

Readers Response:
It was considered a big step in that era because not only the book was based
on sci-fi but also a gothic horror novel which the society wasn’t excepting to be
written by a women in that era. Scientific ideology and invention by the
religious practioners therefore it wasn’t accepted by the society. Even many
readers because of its gothic nature considered that it was written by her
husband. But in present world many readers appreciated her extent of
scientific thinking and boldness of a women writing such a gothic novel in that
era.
Controversy Surrounding Frankenstein:
As Frankenstein was a gothic horror novel the society didn’t accepted
the fact that it was written by a woman as woman’s weren’t writing such
gothic novel in that era and most of the female novelist were contributing to
romance novel.

As most part of the society were superstitious, when they read that
novel they hated the ideology of playing god as most part of novel was
dedicated to creating life by Victor Frankenstein. Therefore it wasn’t accepted
by the society in that era.

Theme of Frankenstein:
The pursuit of knowledge is at the heart of Frankenstein as Victor
Frankenstein as Victor attempts to surge beyond accepted human limits and
access the secret of life. Likewise, Robert Walton attempts to surpass previous
human explorations by endeavouring to reach the North Pole. This ruthless
pursuit of knowledge, of the light, proves dangerous, as Victor’s act of creation
eventually results in the destruction of everyone dear to him, and Walton finds
himself perilously trapped between sheets of ice whereas Victor’s obsessive
hatred for the monster drives him to his death, Walton ultimately pulls back
from his treacherous mission having learned from Victors example how
destructive the thirst of knowledge can be.
