(1, 2) respectively. If the center of gravity of the system lies at (2, y ) , find the value of
m and y .
7. A vertical hollow cylinder of radius 4 m rotates at 3.5 rad/s about its vertical axis. A body
rotates without slipping on the inner surface of the cylinder. If the body is at the point of
sliding down, find the co-efficient of friction between the body and the cylinder.
8. A rotor speed decreases uniformly from 1800 rpm to rest in 320 seconds. Determine the
angular deceleration and number of radians it makes before coming to rest.

9. A body of 15 kg mass lies on a rough surface inclined at 30° to the horizontal. Co-
efficient of friction between the body and the surface is 0.25. A force F is applied
parallel to the inclined surface for a distance of 10 m so that the body moves at
constant speed. Find the work done by the force F.
10. A body of mass 750 grams, is initially moving with a constant velocity (4i 6 j ) m / s .
After a force of (ai bj ) N has acted on the body for 6 seconds, the body has a

11. The mast OA in fig.2 is supported by the three cables. If cable AB is subjected to a
tension of 500N, determine the tension in cables AC & AD and the vertical force FAO
which the mast exerts along its axis at A.
12. The bent bar ABC shown in fig.3 is supported by a smooth pin at A and a roller at C. The
bar carries 5kN vertical force. Determine the reactions at A&C.
13. Refer fig.4. The weights of two blocks A & B are 100 N and 150 N respectively. Find the
smallest value of the horizontal force F to first move the lower block B.
14. Determine the forces in the members BC, BE & FE of the truss shown in fig.5.
15. A projectile is launched from point A as shown in fig.6. Determine the slant distance ‘s’
which locates point B. Calculate the time of flight.
16. Find the acceleration of the blocks and the tension in the cable for the arrangement
shown in fig.7. WA 150 N and WB 300 N
17. Refer fig.8. At the instant shown, the spring is undeformed and the system is at rest. If B
is released, determine the maximum fall.
18. The 3 kg collar initially at rest is acted upon by the force Q which varies as shown in
fig.9. If k 0.25 , determine a) the maximum velocity of the collar and the corresponding
