PROJECT WORK IN REGENCY CERAMICS LTD,YANAM:

Title: Analysis of the kiln and interlocks of kiln outlet by using PLC.
The Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) is the universal control mechanism for
automation of process control in a wide range of industries. The PLC performs
continuous, real-time monitoring and control of a set of defined inputs and their
corresponding outputs.
The goal of the project was to study the output of the kiln (where the tiles are
heated). After Coming out of the kiln tiles are sent to packing section. In between
the output of the kiln and the packing section we use a PLC to move the tiles on
rollers without any damage and errors. When the tiles are on the rollers they are
sensed with the help of the Photo sensor, then rollers rotate to move the tiles. If tiles
overlap with each other then they are sensed by Photo sensor and process is
corrected in a short time. This increases the productivity and runtime of the plant.
• The main aim is to reduce the floor area, to make use of less circuits and
wiring connections by installing PLC.
• Start, emergency stop, rollers and sensors are interfaced to PLC.These are
incorporated in software of OMRAN using Ladder logics.
• Before using the PLC, Relay coils are used which take more floor area and
having a large circuit. The Relay coils are replaced with the PLC.
• In relay coils, if want to change the process of the plant (say the industry)
the entire circuit must be rearranged as per our requirement and may take
more floor area
• Where as in a PLC process by interchanging the inputs we can get the
required outputs.

Various units and equipments and the takes place in kiln and the outlet of the kiln is
interfaced to PLC have been studied and reported. The signals of PLC will control
the timing between the rollers and conveyor belt (which is used to send the tiles to
the packing section).
