Adjustment of the Bearing to Wheel Assemblies

The models 6009 ATCR, 6009 ATCRL and 6010 GAICR allow adjustments on wheel
assembly bearings through slots (A) as shown below. These adjustments are used to
centralize the wheel assemblies with the harrow mainframe and to eliminate lateral
gaps among the carrying axle and the bearings.
- Harrows with single wheel system: Adjust the bearings centralizing the wheel
system with the mainframe. Note the tires must have the same distance in relation to
the mainframe. The carrying axle (B) should be without inner gaps against the
bearings.
- Harrows with dual wheel system: Adjust the bearings centralizing the wheel
system with the mainframe. Note the tires or the raising towers must have the same
distance in relation to the mainframe. The carrying axle (C) should be without inner
gaps against the bearings.

ADJUSTING AND OPERATING
OPERATING
Be sure to read and understand all the instructions to obtain best performance
on operation and maximum trouble free.

Tractor Set-up

Before starting the operations it is necessary to set-up adequately the tractor

and harrow. Apply the necessary water ballast on tires, add weights on front and
rear of tractor, in order to increase the traction on the soil and give more stability to
the tractor.

Hitching Tractor to the Disc Harrow

Hitch tractor to the disc harrow and connect the hoses. Connect the safety chain
to the tractor drawbar. Lower the jackstand and unpin. Swivel jack to horizontal
storage position. Insert Pin to the hole (A). Raise the transport tires until the hitch
matches the tractor drawbar height and to finalize place the hitch pin (B) with the
lock.

Attention: - AFTER HITCHED THE HARROW TO THE TRACTOR, DO NOT FORGET TO

TAKE OUT THE PIN FROM THE HOLE (A). RELIEVE THE PIN BY LOWERING
THE TRANSPORT TIRES.
- THE TRACTOR'S DRAWBAR SHOULD BE LOCATED IN A FIXED POSITION
IN THE CENTER OF THE TRACTOR, WHEN TRANSPORTING THE HARROW.
- NEVER DISCONNECT THE HYDRAULIC HOSES BEFORE LOWERING THE
HARROW AND BLEEDING OFF PRESSURE FROM THE SYSTEM.

25
ADJUSTING AND OPERATING
OPERATING
Important Recommendations

- The drawbar should be allowed for

enough lateral movement to permit full swing
when plowing and must be fixed in the center
position before transporting.
- Never disconnect the hydraulic hoses
before lowering the harrow and relief the
hydraulic pressure.
- While the disc harrow is hitched to the
tractor, adjust the spring nut on the drawbar.
Lower the harrow until all the discs touching
to the ground.
- Adjust the nuts against the spring on the
top fore/aft eyebolts until the spring are snug.
The springs should be as little pressure as
possible when plowing and should never
completely compressed.

Note: PLEASE RE-MAKE THE ADJUSTMENTS, IF

YOU USE AN OTHER TRACTOR WITH
DIFFERENT HEIGHT ON THE DRAWBAR.

- Prior to transporting the harrow, raise

disc harrow with hydraulic and install the
transport lock (A) on hydraulic cylinder rod.

- Before move the equipment to the field make sure

axle nuts are tighted. If they are loose, discs will turn on the
axle and the components of the gang will be severely
damaged.
- Use a pressure lubrication gun and apply a sufficient
amount of grease in all the grease fittings. See the
instructions on the lubrication section on pages 32 to 34.

26
ADJUSTING AND OPERATING
OPERATING
Depth of Cut / Gang Angle Adjustments

- There are two ways to adjust depth of cut:

1) By using the adjustment holes to change angles on front and rear disc gangs.
2) Using the wheels on the transport assemblies to act as depth gauges.

Note: - IT IS BETTER TO REDUCE THE ANGLE OF THE GANGS TO DECREASE SOIL

PENETRATION RATHER THAN TO GAUGE THE DEPTH OF PENETRATION BY USE
OF THE WHEELS. THIS METHOD INCREASES THE WIDTH OF CUT WHILE DRAFT
AND FUEL CONSUMPTION IN EXTREMELY SOFT OR SANDY SOILS IS DECREASED.
IT MAY BE NECESSARY USE THE WHEELS FOR ADDITIONAL LEVELING AND
GAUGING.

To change gang angle, raise disc harrow on wheels until discs are clear of
ground. Slide gang carrier or backward as desired. For ordinary conditions set both
front and rear gangs in next to maximum angle (center hole).

Rear Gang Front Gang

More
More Less Depth
Depth Less Depth
Depth

Important: - BEFORE STARTING DISCING IS RECOMMENDED TO USE A MEDIUM GANG

ANGLE. IN CASE YOU NEED MORE PENETRATION, INCREASE THE ANGLE
ON THE REAR GANG. PRECISE DEPTH CONTROL IS POSSIBLE BY USING
THE WHEEL ON THE MAIN FRAME TRANSPORT ASSEMBLY TO ACT AS DEPTH
GAUGES. IT IS ACHIEVED WITH USE OF ROD STOPS, THAT ATTACHED TO
THE HYDRAULIC CYLINDER ROD, WILL LIMIT THE ROD TRAVEL.
- FRONT GANG USUALLY DOES NOT OPERATE WITH ANGLE LARGER THAN
THE REAR GANG.
- KEEP THE PLOWED LAND AREA ALWAYS TO THE LEFT. THE HARROW IS
PLOWING CORRECTLY WHEN IT COVERS THE TRACTOR WHEEL TRACKS
AND THERE IS NO SIDE DRAFT.

27

Depth of Cut / Cylinder Rod Stops (Optional)

A
When the gangs are
discing too deep or too
shallow, it can be used
threaded adjusting rods (A) on
the base end of each wing
cylinder (B) if the gang running
too deeply, adjust the rod so
the pin on the base end of the
cylinder moves closer to the
front of the disc and vice versa,
if it is running too shallow. B

Tractor's Position in relation to Previous Passing - Side Displacement

Side displacement is used to eliminate marks left on the soil by tractor passing
which normally happens when the tractor's gauge is larger than working width of
the harrow.
If it is possible, the tractor should travel over the unplowed land and close to the
previous furrow.
If the harrow needs adjustment, shift the drawbar plates either to the right or left
on the offset bar, as shown below:

Position # 2 Normal Position

Offset Bar Position # 1

Normal Position (Centralized); utilized in most situations.

Position # 1; Approaches the tractor to previous furrow.
Position # 2; keeps the tractor away from previous furrow.

Note: - AFTER SIDE DISPLACEMENT YOU SHOULD ALSO CHANGE THE FIXING POINT
ON STABILIZER BAR (A), IN THE MANNER THAT IN THE NORMAL POSITION IS
ALLOWED USE OF HOLES 4 AND 6 AS SHOWN ON THE STABILIZER BAR.
FOR POSITION # 1, USE HOLES 4 AND 5 AND FOR POSITION # 2, HOLES 3 AND

Drawbar Angles

At the normal field operation

and during the transportation the
drawbar should be kept fixed on
the center hole as shown on the
figure.
Minimum side draft will be
obtained when changing the
drawbar position to other holes.

Drawbar
The harrow is designed to trail behind the tractor. Minimum side draft will be
obtained when the drawbar hitch is aligned with outside beam of mainframe. Keep
tighten the drawbar hitch bolts. Loose bolts will result in extensive damage to drawbar
hitch and bridle assemblies.

TO MAKE CONTACT WITH IMPLEMENT.

30
ADJUSTING AND OPERATING
OPERATING
Operation / Main Instructions

- Remove pins from transport assembly bracket and pin transport lock (upright)
field position on main frame. Raise transport wheels and start discing operation.
- Retighten nut axles after first day of operation. Thereafter, visually inspect axle
nuts daily for tightness and re-tighten as necessary to ensure if the proper torque
requeriment is maintained.
- Tighten all fasteners after the first day of operation and inspect at regular
periods thereafter.
- Pay attention to the lubrication intervals.
- The gear of the tractor will be applied depending on the soil conditions and
plow adjustments, never forget to maintain a power reserve in order to not overload
the tractor.
- The ground speed is relative to the gear applied to the tractor and it is only
determined by the soil conditions. In order to keep a good operation performance
and avoid possible damages to the harrow.
- When discing, raise machine out of ground before making turns. Avoid to make
sharp turns that may cause contact between tires and equipment.
- When discing, never maneuver to rigth, the angle formed by the disc gangs
transfer much stress to the implement and the consequence will overload all
components of the drawbar.
- Remove any wood piece or other object stucked on the disc blades.
- Disconnect hydraulic hoses from breakaway couplers after release pressure
from the system. Plug hoses and place on hose support assembly.
- The tractor drawbar must be fixed in the center position when transporting
and loosed when working.
- Be sure tractor and implement have been properly prepared. Operating speed
should be between 5 to 7 km/h. Reduce speed in rocky conditions.
- Before transport the implement to the field, fully extend the transport cylinder
to raise the disc, unpin the transport lock from storage position and pin in place on
transport assembly. The equipment should be kept as leveled as possible when
transporting.

31
MAINTENANCE AND LUBRICATION
LUBRICATION
The points listed below are common advises to keep your implement in good
condition, making it last longer and with no working interruptions.

1) EVERY 24 HOURS OF SERVICE, EXECUTE THE FOLLOWING:

- Take a look at the Lubrication Points on Page 33. Use a pressure lubrification
gun to apply an enough quantitiy of medium consistence grease or equivalent to
flush out the old grease and dirt residues.
- Make sure no stange material is allowed to get into lubrication points or
bearings.
- Clean the grease fittings with a cloth before introduce the lubricant. If the
fittings are not in satisfactory condition, replace them with new parts available.
- Lubricate the greasable bearings with a medium consistence grease. In sand
conditions, the bearings should be lubricate daily to prevent build-up of sand and
grease just outside the sealing surface. Although, the oilbath bearings do not require
constant lubrication, it is necessary to check oil level after first 24 hours of operation
and weekly thereafter. Oil level should reach the bottom level of plug when unit is
leveled.

2) AFTER 100 OURS OF OPERATION

- Adjust Leveling Control and depth Control Arm Eyebolts and keep threads
coated with grease.
- On wheel hubs bearings, apply 5 shots of grease or until grease shows outiside
wheel seals.

3) AFTER 1500 HOURS OF OPERATION

- Change oil on Oilbath Bearings Assemblies. Fill it with SAE 90 weigth gear oil
until it runs out of fill plug.

4) PERIODICALLY
Remove wheel hub bearings. Place bearings, seals caps and washers in a
container with kerosene or other solvents. Inspect the bearings and seals. If they are
not in good condition, replace them with spare parts available at your TATU dealer.

5) ONCE PER YEAR

Carefully inspect all Hydraulic Hoses for leaks, abrasions and cracks.
Tighten all fittings and replace hoses as necessary.

32
MAINTENANCE AND LUBRICATION
LUBRICATION
Lubrication Points

Lubricate every 24 hours of operation.

33
MAINTENANCE AND LUBRICATION
LUBRICATION
Lubricate every 100 hours of operation.

Maintenance of the Harrow

- In a non-use period, wash the harrow, paint the spoiled parts, protect the discs
with oil, lubricate all grease fittings and store the unit in an open non aired place,
avoiding that same touch the soil.
- The disc blades should be replaced as soon as they present low output, which
is noticed by the decrease of their diameter.
- Inspect all movable parts and if any is spoiled, replace it with new parts
available at your TATU dealer.

Note: USE ONLY ORIGINAL TATU SPARE PARTS.

Caution! ALWAYS BLOCK-UP RAISED EQUIPMENT WHEN SERVICING OR

STORAGE. NEVER RELY ON THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM.

34

How to Calculate Hourly Performance of the Harrow

Utilize the formula below to calculate hourly performance of the ATCR, ATCRL
and GAICR Offset Disk Harrows.

LxVxE
X=
X

Where:

R = Performance per hour

L = Working width of the harrow, expressed in meters
V = Tractor's speed average, expressed in meters per hour
E = Efficiency (0.90)
X = Value of Hectare (10,000 m²)
Valor of Acre (4,047 m²)

Example of the ATCR de 20 Discs:

R = ?
L = 2.19 2.19 x 6,000 x 0.90
R=
10,000
V = 6,000 m/h
E = 0.90
R = 1.18 Hectares per hour
X = 10,000 m² R = 2.92 Acres per hour

Note: EFFECTIVE HARROW'S PERFORMANCE MIGHT CHANGE DUE TO PHYSICAL

FACTORS AS MOISTURE, DECLIVITY AND HARDPAN. ALSO, THE IMPROPER
ADJUSTMENTS AND WORKING SPEED COULD RESULT IN A POOR PERFORMANCE.

Based on the calculation above it is simple to elaborate the tables on the next
page to show theoretical average performance per hour and day (considering 9
hours period).
