WATCH ME GROW
Anonymous

First you babble and then you talk

You begin to crawl, before you walk
And once you walk, you start to run
And soon you’ll find, to fly is fun

But as you soar, you have to know

The things you need to help you grow
And since this process cannot be rushed
You’ll have to wait – don’t be crushed!

Like learning to talk and walk and run

Reading is supposed to be fun
So don’t be worried if I cannot read
More time may be what I need to succeed

You cannot run before you walk

You have to babble before you talk
And reading is the same indeed
Time and patience is all I need.

One day I will learn how to read

And I may even take the lead
But for now the process may to slow
Just encourage me and watch me grow!

THE IMPORTANCE OF READING

Damian Sofsian

It is a well-known fact that when there were no televisions or computers, reading

was a primary leisure activity. People would spend hours readings books and travel to
lands far away in their minds. The only tragedy is that, with time, people have lost their
skill and passion to read. There are many other exciting and thrilling options available,
aside from books. And that is a shame because reading offers a productive approach to
improving vocabulary and the word power. It is advisable to indulge in at least half an
hour of reading a day to keep abreast of the various styles of writing and new vocabulary.
It is observed that children and teenagers who love reading have comparatively
higher IQs. They are more creative and do better in school and college. It is recommended
that parents to inculcate the importance of reading to their children in the early years.
Reading is said to significantly help in developing vocabulary, and reading aloud helps
to build a strong emotional bond between parents and children. The children who start
reading from an early age are observed to have good language skills, and they grasp the
variances in phonics much better.
Reading helps in mental development and is known to stimulate the muscles of
the eyes. Reading is an activity that involves greater levels of concentration and adds to
the conversational skills of the reader. It is an indulgence that enhances the knowledge
acquired, consistently. The habit of reading also helps readers to decipher new words
and phrases that they come across in everyday conversations. The habit can become a
healthy addiction and adds to the information available on various topics. It helps us to
stay in-touch with contemporary writers as well as those from the days of yore and makes
us sensitive to global issues.

IMPORTANCE OF READING
Ruchi Sapra

A book is a fragile creature, it suffers the wear of time, it fears rodents, the elements
and clumsy hands. So, the librarian protects the books not only against mankind but also
against nature and devotes his life to this war with the forces of oblivion.
Remember those golden days of college, school bag full of books, so many things
to learn, loads of information – history, geography, math, science. Bag full of knowledge
carrying on the little shoulders, all things make us laugh. Yes, all those things make us
laugh presently. If we were not able to carry those heavy loads on our shoulders at that
time then I am sure we wouldn’t be able to stand properly in this society as we are
standing today. Our present knowledge is all just because of our books. There was not
any use of technology name Internet in the old days and at that time; books used to share
their knowledge with their future generation only through books. Hence, books are like
our ancestors’ gifts to us, which let us know about many things that we don’t know, for
example – story of Ramayana, written as book by Tulsidass.
Books are the best pathfinders to reach the destiny of success. Importance of books
for our present generation is like nothing because of updated technology. Here I am not
saying that this advanced technology is not good, but we should believe in the written
words. We know that Old is Gold. A poor child who doesn’t know that how to write, is
just the one who knows the ream importance of books. It is very necessary to give the
books their real importance back as these deserve.
Reading is the best thing to make your mind relax. You can read sweet stories,
funny jokes, fairy tales, real stories; all depends on you, whatever you like you can read.
Books are available in variety and for variety of people. Nowadays, there are lots of
sources which make availability of books easily and affordable at your door step, for
example, you can e-order your books easily by just visiting the sites. I know about one of
the book clubs i.e. India Today Book Club that also takes e-orders for the books of your
taste like latest Fiction, Classics, Art and Reference Books, Children’s reading material,
Cooking, Gardening, Fitness and Health, Religion and Spirituality, Information
Technology, Medicine and many others, with grand discounts and exciting gifts like
holiday packages.
I believe that reading costs nothing for you if you are having curiosity to taste the
pudding of success. I feel less alone when I read the book.

WHY SHOULD WE READ?

Jawaharlal Nehru

Why does one read books? To instruct oneself, amuse oneself, train one’s mind,
etc. etc… Certainly all this and much more. Ultimately it is to understand life with its
thousand facets and to learn how to live life. Our individual experiences are so narrow
and limited, if we were to rely on them alone, we would also remain narrow and limited.
But books give us the experiences and thoughts of innumerable others, often the
wisest of their generation, and lift us out of our narrow ruts. Gradually as we go up the
mountain sides, fresh vistas come into view, our vision extends further and further, and
a sense of proportion comes to us. We are not overwhelmed by our petty and often
transient loves and hates, and we see them for what they are – petty and hardly noticeable
ripples on the immense ocean of life.
For all of us, it is worthwhile to develop this larger vision for it enables us to see
life whole and to live it well. But for those who cherish the thought of rising above the
common herd of unthinking humanity and playing a brave part in life’s journey, this
vision and sense of proportion are essential to keep us on the right path and steady us
when storms and heavy winds bear down us.
