Chapter 1: Positive Psychology

The chapter highlights a number of exercises. These exercises are tailored to improve one self.

Peterson (2006) reiterates that a conversation like “Have a good day “ is a common conversation people
say everyday but not taken seriously. If people would assume its significance, what would people do to
change their day? Various people will provide distinct answers hence the exercise possess two
procedures. I started by analyzing what would make my day good. The first point I considered was being
a diligent observer of my days bringing together the good and the ones I perceived to be bad.Secondly,
after identifying the days, I evaluate on how I can change the days to magnify the favorable factors and
lessen the ones that hinders. However, a good life is usually associated with psychological states, habits
and characteristics that make it possible similar to institutional and social setups where the habits, traits
and states can thrive easily.

Chapter 2 :Learning positive psychology

Here Peterson expresses the drive to doing, approaching the various subjects with open minds and
getting to participate.

Acording to Peterson Hppiness is not a spectator,I have used this phrase severally in my life since it is a
pack full of mening practice. No one achieves genuine happiness by just staring from the sidelines. We
have to get on to the filed nad execute it.No one finds satisfaction by looking. Its eithrr we join or try
out.I love football but back then I used to be overwhelmed by the skills of some professionals that would
hinder me from joining the game. However, after getting motivation from Peterson,we can only find
happiness by doing not just spectating,I owned the positivity and it has been going great on my side.I
have been able to win various accolades from football;including the top scorer trophy, best player in my
local team medal and even pother football kits.

Therefore,It is vital to experiment, people are only concerned interested on what the research can
achieve not just what it says because they want to experience what actually happens in real life.I could
not have been what I am now as a footballer if I did not try it.I though of myself as very able and a great
pioneer and I approached football ambitiously. In effect,an experimental approach is what would bring
pure intrinsic happiness because science has been incredibly slow.

The mundane of our daily life is reflected by our behaviors.Like I formed a habit of doing aerobics with
my brothers every morning, the exercise worked because e started with not much haste but after a
while, they embraced it and it became a habit in our family.Evryone growing would just get in the system
psychological without much reasoning of explaining the benefits to them. This commenced to define
what our good is made of.My sister would also form a habit of calling my father everyday as she
exclaimed that would revitalize her spirit, thus defining what a good is to her. According to Kahneman
and Stone, 2004)one need to reflect on the seriousness of these traits and make an abstract on to
account for them.Organize the exercises in a spreadsheet and write an overall rating on the good and
the part. For example,1-it was an excellent day,2-The day was average,3-The day was outstanding,4-It
was another typical day,5-It was the greatest day ever of my life.
Chapter 3 : Positive experience and Pleasure

In this chapter, Peterson(2006) critically analyzes the characterization of good life psychology as
suggested by Hugh Heifer (1956) in its philosophical playboy act.The play was an expression of obsession
with young naked women to a contemporary definition of happiness, awareness, pleasure and joy,all
magnifying the positive experiences.Hugh meant that living life exuberance, vitality and zest surrounds
the breasts. However,I found these determination of pleasure putting off but my little brother he loved
this playboy attitude and would practice it as a way of demonstrating his pleasure. To me it defines the
serious sins that are specifically shown to be draping towards guilt and shame.

I would explore pleasure as exploring a good psychological state that encompasses raw body feelings
(Ryle,1949) as is backed by perfumes spraying as pleasures of the mind.I love applying my perfume as
whenever I go out,it gives me satisfaction as occasioned to by the Ninth symphony of Beethoven. Also an
achievement as determined by a local footballer who scores a goal get a great feeling (Dunker,
1941).Despite of anything that might be said against it,Pleasure feels an awesome experience and when
we do not look for it relentlessly, somehow we get to appreciate it when it happens.According to
Rozzin(1999),the raw kind of pleasures sensations are exhibited on the skin area and they are specific to
the orifices of the body like genitals, mouth, nostrils and anus. This is an experience we get when we
exchange various substances in an outside our bodies.

Positive experiences are products of the sensations like emotions, affections and the moods.Any
specufuc category depend on ones theory, but each of them would agree that the feelings are varied in
respect of they last and their attachment to situations, complexity and stimuli.Psychologists say the
experiences are a characteristic patterns of behaviors, thoughts and arousal. In expression of the
emotions by Darwin (1872),he expressed parallel lines comparing people and the animals regarding
their reaction to occurrences. For example Monkeys, cats, humans and the dog would show their teeth
when they are frightened or offended. It is normal to express our behaviors when threatened since our
fear is manifested in the conditions when we are threatened,I have shown the characteristic severally
when I get offended.I embrace the Darwin theory that even in negative situations like
disgust, sadness, fear and anger these acts show the danger we are alerted to and reactions we produce
?(Plutchik,1980).

Chapter 4 :Happiness

In this chapter Peterson (1996) outlines various aspects of happiness from its meaning, Pleasure,
meaning and its Engagement.Following my procedure review on the questionire it was eveident to me
that I thrive well with the meaning wof happiness because this act goes beyong the description people
equate to eat,it is a conception that surpasses fleeting feelings (Russel, 1945) but in most cases they
suggest a principle rule that determines happiness.

Pleasure was however associated with hedonism of maximizing and decrreasing pain as stated by
(Watson,1895).Hedonism holds that pleasure people ought to overexploit their obligation to experience
pleasure. But as a Christian thi is against my values,it is a symbol of sin. However,Moore 1535 argued that
it was God’s command to be happy by practicing pleasure for as long it does not preoccupy people’s
minds everytime.I always find pleasure when hang out with my friends where we dance, eat, drink and
swim all day.Another sign of pleasure to e,is reading the bible and watching the passion of Christ,it is an
act that gives me full satisfaction as human made in the image of God.The kind of spiritual interactions
are what complete my personality.

My Victory is always portrayed when engaging in football activity. As a striker I live to score. It is usually
a competition to me,being the bet striker demands that one score more goals frequently. It instills
victoty belief and pride in the team. The team spirit seems to be high when they have someone they can
depend on to change the game. For my kind of personality, regarless of the more goals I score, only
winning as a team seems more appealing to me ,Peterson (2006,pg 80).Subsequently,I keep my records
of the winnings of the team rather than the goals I score in every match. It looks more appealing to me.

Lastly,my engagement with the community around also scores high in my belief in cohesiveness.I
alwayaundertake to participate in community clean ups, visting the sick and helping out the needy by
distribution of clothes. It offers me a special engagement to learn from the people from different cycles
of life.

Chapter 5 : Positive Thinking

As Peterson puts it,psychologists drives their motivation in optimism and hop (2006).He analyzes the
various styles in the early human life relates to the physical health ; the interaction of body and the
mind.People when taken through examination, describe various experience they have been able to
undergo ranging from war experiences,.personal life and even accidents.Peterson then coded their
feedbacks according to how they highlighted the bad occurrences. There were coded reponses showing
both pessimism nad optimism.

This cognitive psychology analyzes how people transform, acquire, use and retain knowledge.During my
studies on the same,I usually believe that my behavior determines how my mind operates despite the
content.Sometimes when I wake up feeling irritated,I end up my day in a very mood and my mind seems
to be so engrossed to boredom,it does not matter what I am thinking, whether positive or negative,I
adversely get affected with my behavior.

Not everything are conscious, the subject is only defined by how selectively characterize the
attention. We become more engrossed to what happens around us than what happens somewhere else.

Chapter 6: Character Strength’

Selegman discusses that the positivity of making the youth realize their potential. The process begins
with positive psychology. Every youth need to embrace good character. Is the character of the people is
a result of activity of what one does or does the character define it.He raise the questionof whether a
character is symbol of an individual trait or is a composition several aspects. In relaying a good character
it shows a family dispositions of positive teamwork, hope and kindness.Altogether these traits portray a
plural of the signs of good character. Therefore the charcter that demonstrates positivity is an
assumption of strengths that are assessed in their own definition
The strengths can be culturally bound since we accepted the characters to be part of humanity in the
world. For example in the most influential religion in the world;Christianity and muslim some values are
widely shared Peterson (2005).Character strength is exhibited in many ways. For example in my
culture, moral value of culture’values the culture the virtue in its righ not the outcome that would seem
tangible e.g observing respect fro the elderly.

We also measure culture as an trait for an individual indifference. My culture has established
institutions with specific deliberations that target my community practices and cultivate the benefits of
rituals performed (Peterson, 2006).Strengths of knowledge and wisdom are traits that relate to
information usage and acquisitions in offering service of good lifestyle. I practice the act of curiosity,
that has helped me learn a lot about the experience around me, it helps me discover and explore my
relationship with my friends and the family; determine what they like and dislike. Another significance of
personal strength deemed as perspective has helped me give wise counseling to the aggrieved people
since I get to learn ways of seeing the world try to make sense of other persons.Lastly, my open minded
trait has regulated how I handle issues, for example when my siblings have squabble,I tend to listen to all
sides part of the story before jumping to any conclusively arbitration.

Finally is the strength of courage that covers the practice of will in achieving objectives be it internal or
external.I have been approaching my life a lot of zest, ensuring I finish what io started and living the
exercise as an adventure.Persistence,I endured training to be a great footballer but through persistence
I made it.Sometimes we go through hurts in life, but bravery has taught me never to shrink no matter
the pains exhibited. Finally embracing authenticity,by standing and speaking the truth no maater what
circumstancesi experience.

Chapter 7 : Values.

In this chapter Peterson discusses values as a charater trait of knowing and willing to do what is
good. Some theoretical possibilities tend to show people who thrive without value. However, such
conditions seem improbable.Values are universal acts, and when embraced result in good life.Individual
values provide criteria and actions through which we achieve our goals.Somehow the standard ideals
are not met because not all people will practice what they profess but sometimes the values relate to
behaviors.Peterson offers several circumstances when ones value can be reflected upon their actions.

My personality has been tied in living for the good relationship with others. When we live according our
own influence not other people we find it easy to observe our values. When we think continuously on
who we are especially in embracing social scripst we will always find it hard to be consistent in our
values.Thirdly, the occasions we attend or live under can change the value of aperson. The person can
easily acquire a value experiences and improve their consistency unlike the ones we get indirectly with
our behavior. When growing as a child I found it was a norm for everybody in the family to bow greet
visitors in my family slightly bowing,I got used to the system since it was an original practice .The norm
was easy to acquire.

Chapter 8 : Abilities,Interests and Accomplishments

The chapter analyzes the question that does anyone do what their acts to their level best.

When we had my thanksgiving ceremony at home,Most of my friends visited. My father prompted a

question to one of them,”Saying Brown what do you?” but the answer Brown provided took me aback
when he replied I play badminton. He would have just said I am an engineer. He could say to I am
married.Or say I am a father of one.But his passion for badminton seemed to outweigh all these
things, even though I know he was not good at badminton. However, when I analyzed his response
critically Brown was being genuine.

People sometimes overlook the fact that each of us have distinct interest.it might seem like a recreation
to someone else but that is our passion like badminton to Brown was his typical psycho. As Rozzin and
Schwartz (1997) puts it is what pays others,it is like a family bond .While some passions are shared
,others are very private. But the common interest seem to be vital aspect of the engagement. Our abilty
is also portrayed in things we can do well when we allow exposure. When we were in campus,we had
mentors who could identify what we could do better in our careers.I realized I can make a good
architectbut I had passion for business courses. After my first year I switched to architecture and I
enjoyed every bit of the course. The ability I had was never exploited.

Finally, our accomplishements surround sthe things we achieve by undertaking the right

decisions.Chilren even as young as 4 years would tell they see themselves becoming good
lawyers, doctors and professional footballers. When we actualize our occupational fantasies, they
eventually become life accomplishments.Like I dreamt of becoming a good footballer. Apart from being
a good architect, I am also living an accomplishment of being a fantastic footballer.

Chapter 9 : Wellness

As Peterson puts it,Wellness and health are the fundamentals that motivate people’s participation in the
most vital issues of their lives.Good helath maintenance is crucial for the disable people. It instills full
participation in the aspects of community life and decreases potential effects of the disability
(Hammond and Turner 2006).However,the people possessing disability experience varied distinctions
when compared to population in general. These people have health needs that are not met and other
chronic conditions (Chevarley, 2006).

Promotion of the health of the disable is necessary even though the health need of both the population
is critical. The disable require special attention considerations. For example when we visited the women
disable centre in Ohio,I realized that the ,some of the disable women would not understand well the
breast health education, their standards vary from the ones existing in the general population because
they have different reading formats and language adaptations. Moreover, their interaction with the
surroundings are very unique.Consequently, adopting health promotion to combat the disparities need
a comprehensive specific health definition for these vulnerable part of population.

Chapter 10: Positive Interpersonal Relationships

Peterson emphasizes that a positive engagement through communication approach would help
strengthen relationships.Relationships only get effective when equity is applied mutually
(Peterson,2006).Every person expects to be treated equally, having aright to claim for same benefits as
the amount they reciprocate in the relationships. However, sometimes emerges a conflict of interest
between the relationship interpersonal traits. In most circumstance conflict is inevitable because people
always want it all and beat each other at all parameters it might cost. But this would primarily affect
relationships since there is a show of power to destabilize the other party.

I have found myself as a victim to this several times. One of my best friend has been borrowing
money, clothings and shoes from me without returning.I only notice when these items have become
outdated and can never have them back. This has not always gone well with our relationship because I
feel exploited .Nowadays I would not even attempt to listen to his pleas, regardless whether they are
genuine or not.I had tried to show mutual insight and cooperation in his problems and help but he chose
to violate the principle within which relationships are built. The practice is unfair because these
situations always present the loser with hurts and would try to revenge. As a result no one wins the
battle.

We have been meeting and decided to develop a mutual understanding that would restore our
friendship to avoid the clashing of our pride, ideas and hurts caused because equality means sharing
decisions and power to bring conflict resolution policies to help build ,and not destroy relationships.,
