Introduction
All over Pakistan there is a frustration found in the youth of Pakistan. This frustration has
increased dramatically in the last decade and hence the youth is disappointed and frustrated
today. There may be many reasons for this; it may be possible that news channels are one of
those.
Pakistan has been a state of trouble probably since the time it was borne; there have been lesser
positive things and more of negative things in this state. There was a time when Pakistan was
world no. 2nd in the list of most corrupt countries of the world but at that time too there was not
much negativity amongst the youngsters. There was a strong feeling in the youth of Pakistan to
change the way things were happening, yet that desire has changed into a frustration and a
Problem Statement
Media has been given independence to say and show things and acts whichever it consider
important in the name of providing information to the public. This has happened more
independently in the last decade. To find out whether this has become the cause for the frustrated
1. Are the news channels responsible for the increasing frustration amongst the youth in
Pakistan?
2. Is the media independence specially the news channels proving to be in harm for
Pakistan’s youth?
Hypothesis:
• There may be a relationship between the news shown to youngsters and the frustration in
youth.
• Showing too much negativity might be harmful for the youth of Pakistan.
• News channels might be interested only in running their businesses than think for the
• There may absolutely no relationship between the news shown and the frustration of the
youngsters.
• It might be necessary for the youngsters to know what the reality is.
Objectives
2. Identify specific actions required by news channels to reduce the effect of their news.
Significance of Study
1. Improve public understanding of the role of the news channels in surving or hurting the
youngsters.
2. Improve public understanding of the sincerity towards youngsters with which news
Though not many people have argued about the research topic of the researchers,
still there are some articles to be found on the internet who support the statement
that media is up to an extent playing a negative role in frustrating the youngsters,
as khadim hussain in his article “A look at media freedom in Pakistan” although
agreed that free media is essential for democracy but further said “Greed for juicy
reports and their irrational haste to be ahead in the ugliest of rat races is nothing
but thoroughly unprofessional and venal journalism.” The role of media in any
country is to produce a positive impact on youngsters.
Bilal Qureshi also has written in his article “Media’s Role in today’s Pakistan” that “It
is impossible to find anyone positive about the future of Pakistan”. He said that the
whole world is facing problems these days and media should show the positive side
of the problems. Comparing American and English media to Pakistan’s media he
said that media supported their respective nations when America’s banking sector
failed and English housing market collapsed. This is because of the will of the media
to support and cool down their respective nations rather than making the nation
more violent about the issues.
Fakhar expressed his views about media in his article “Negative Impacts of
Pakistani Media” in which he challenged the sincerity of media by saying
“Unfortunately Pakistani media in present is looking less inclined towards
professional journalism. And it’s more towards business and money making”. He
believes that news channels are encouraging a negative impact by showing a
different culture and picture of Pakistan. He believes that youngsters are following a
negative impact after media’s irresponsible act “most importantly, we must see that
what type of culture our people and particularly our youth is learning from such
irresponsible acts of our Pakistani media”.
In a descriptive writing about the media’s importance and its role in Pakistan
especially of news channel, Sadia Hanif thinks that anti Islamic culture is being
shown in the news channel which is being copied. She also said that “Media and
Judiciary are two independent pillars to save the country from sudden slippage”.
Furthermore the news channels conducting programs on politics and criticizing
government always tend to create a dispute or problem rather that solving the
issues.
This section presents an overview of the methods to used in the study. Areas covered include the
research design, population, sample and sampling techniques, data collection and analysis.
Research Design
The study will involve the evaluating the role of news channel in favor of the youngsters of
Pakistan and their sincerity towards motivating youngsters. Consequently, the research will be
Population
The public sector of Pakistan is a huge area which is practically impossible to cover. The
population would include the members associated with Hamdard Institute of Management
Sciences. The targeted population for the study thus includes the following:
It obvious from the definition of the population above that a census is not feasible in this study.
Accordingly, the researcher will adopt the survey type of research in which a sample from the
target population will be used for the study. In total, a sample of 100 elements will be selected
population will be divided into staff and the students. Next, cluster sampling would be applied to
each group. This will ensure a fair representation of each group of institutions since their
Data Collection
The focus of study is on attitudes and perception and the importance of primary data cannot be
over-emphasised. However, secondary data will also be collected to augment the studies. The
initial visit to the selected institution will therefore be to introduce him as well as seek their
The researcher will collect data by administering a questionnaire. The questionnaire will use
structured questions, consisting of approximately 20 questions divided into three sections ‘A’,
‘B’, and ‘C’. Section ‘A’ will consist of seven questions seeking to answer the first research
question. Section ‘B’ will consist of six questions covering the second research question
whereas Section ‘C’ will consist of questions to test the hypothesis and also answer the third
research question.
questions.

Sample Investigative Questions
Most of the structured questions will be the close-ended type and respondents will
be asked to mark the appropriate box matching the correct answer. Other
questions, however, will require respondents to give opinions.
The responses to the structured close-ended questions will be rated in percentages. The
percentage of respondents for each alternative will be given and analyzed.
Limitations
• The researcher cannot cover all the departments of the University. The research will therefore be
restricted to the management department of the institute.
• The researchers cannot interview news channel representative as it is a sensitive topic and might
offend them to create an unwanted scenario.
