Please define these following words in context Highway & Traffic Engineering:

1. Ergonomics
 An applied science concerned with designing and arranging things people use so
that the people and things interact most efficiently and safely. Being an important
human-machine interface in traffic system, rationality of traffic sign design is
directly related to traffic safety and traffic efficiency.

2. Feasibility
 A feasibility study is research, testing and experimentation designed to determine
if a strategy, design, product or process is possible and practical. It starts well
before the planning application stage to define the most appropriate access
arrangements and an initial assessment of the traffic impact of the land use
proposal. Investigations will also take place as to the current lawful use of the site
and its present potential for generating traffic.

3. Route
 A way taken in getting from a starting point or journey to a destination. In context
highway and engineering views, it means that

4. Abut
 Planned roadway being disturbed/trespassed with property, construction etc
5. Rehabilitation
 Rehabilitation shall be defined as resurfacing, restoration, and rehabilitation (3R)
work consisting of structural. For example, pavement rehabilitation.
6. Fatalities
 An occurrence of death by accident, in war, or from disease. Strategic Highway
Safety Plan to be developed and include performance targets will reduce the
number of accidents occur at the road or highway.
7. Static
 Dimensions, weight and maximum turning angle. For example, the height of
vehicle affects the clearance of overhead structures. The length of vehicles affects
the capacity, overtaking distance of vehicles.
8. Dynamic
 characteristics of vehicles affecting the road design are speed, acceleration and
braking characteristics. to overcome the total tractive resistance (inertia, rolling
resistance, air resistance and grade resistance) it is possible to determine the speed
and acceleration of the vehicle which in turn useful in traffic regulation, planning
and design.
9. Volition
 Volition is the execution of the decision which is the result of a physical actions
of the driver. It is an act where time to start events in motion but not actually do
the action.

10. EIA
 Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). The process of examining the
environmental effects of the development from environmental aspects at design
stage. The EIA methodology promotes a practical and process of environmental
protection that allows the entire planning and design process not disturb the
environment.

11. Countermeasure
 An action taken against an unwanted action or situation. In context highway and
traffic engineering is meaning that, to ensure that roadway design and traffic
control elements support appropriate and safe speeds.

12. ROW
 Right of Way (ROW)is something that civil engineers work with a lot. It’s on
virtually all of the surveys that use. It is helpful for the future planning of the
road.

13. Provision
 The action of providing or supplying something for use. In term of highway and
traffic engineering studies, provision means that supplying material for
construction of road/highways.
