Three Phase Semi Controlled Rectifier
Definition:
Three phase half controlled bridge converters & fully controlled bridge converters are used
extensively in industrial applications up to about 15kW of output power. The Three phase-
controlled rectifiers provide a maximum dc output of
𝑽𝒅𝒄(𝒎𝒂𝒙) = 𝟐𝒗𝒎 / 𝝅
The output ripple frequency is equal to the twice the ac supply frequency. The single phase full
wave controlled rectifiers provide two output pulses during every input supply cycle and hence
are referred to as two pulse converters. Three phase converters are 3-phase controlled rectifiers
which are used to convert ac input power supply into dc output power across the load.

Features:
 Operate from 3 phase ac supply voltage.
 They provide higher dc output voltage and higher dc output power.
 Higher output voltage ripple frequency.
 Filtering requirements are simplified for smoothing out load voltage and load current
In positive half cycle SCR T1 is triggered and conducts as forward bias. In the next 120 degree the
T3 triggered and conducts its roll in the waveform and then finally the T2 triggered after 240
degrees. So, after calculation we can say that the conduction angle is 120 degrees.

Circuit Diagram:
Angle=30o

Angle=60o

Angle=90o
Angle=163o (to differentiate from 180)

Table for Firing Angle

Angles Delay for T1 Delay for T2
(Degree) (ms) (ms)
45 2.5 12.5
90 5 15
135 7.5 17.5
180 10 20
Conduction Angle= 180 degree

We can also check the waveform across each thyristor that is given as below at 45-degree angle
only.

Conclusion:
After performing this experiment, it is concluded that how can performance parameters are
calculated. As above saying about conduction angle it is also conclude that somehow may be their
conduction angles are not same. Although it has good efficacy and have less ripple factor.
