Overview

In this instruction set, you will be taught how to create the basic, yet functional Rail Gun. This long-
fabled, soundless and fireless ballistic weapon has been considered a rumour for years. Fortunately for
you the builder – we’ve developed a method.

In the accompanying documentation you will find:

1. The list of required materials.

2. A step-by-step process that demonstrates the assembly process.

3. The most important safety methods.

4. Any possible dangers encountered along the way.

Definitions
Before you begin, take a moment to familiarize yourself with the following terms. While not necessary
for the assembly of your Rail Gun, they are required for understanding its operation.

Actuator: A mechanical device for moving or controlling an electrical current within a mechanism.

Kevlar: High tensile, damage resistant fabric, five times stronger than steel per unit weight.

Nitrogen: Element carrying atomic number 7, an inert gas, very common and used as coolant.

Platinum: Element carrying atomic number 78, one of Earth’s rarest and most conductive.

Sabot: A shell of small bore diameter, within a casing, launched from a ballistic firearm.

Solenoid: A coil made of highly-conductive wire or tubing, wound into a helix shape.

Warnings
All the components in this construction contain dangerous elements that
may cause injury or death if mishandled. Do not pierce, drop, or cause
any damage to the major components of the system. Handle with care
during assembly and follow all the instructions without skipping steps.

Timeframe
Once all the components are acquired, assembling your Rail Gun requires less than four hours of labour.
Please assemble in an appropriate and dry area, such as a garage or a basement with adequate de-
humidification. Read all instructions carefully before beginning to save time. Enjoy!

List of Materials
The key components of the assembly are listed below. The assembly instructions will follow. First, please
pay attention to which components are included.

All items are singular units, unless otherwise indicated.

Glass Tube
A shatter-resistant glass tube is used as the firing chamber for this
weapon. Glass is non-resistant to electricity and therefore will conduct the
magnetism and electricity from the solenoid once installed.

Solenoid
One of the key components of this assembly is the Solenoid. Made from
the highest conductive material available, platinum, it will serve excellently
to fire your steel sabot rounds once connected to the batteries and actuator.

Fig 2 – Solenoid

Quarter Round Pipe

A dark-coloured quarter-inch circumference iron rod serves as the outer
casing and protective unit for the fragile inner-workings of the chamber.
The solenoid-covered glass tube will be inserted within.

Fig 3 – Outer Chamber

High Capacity Wires

Once again, platinum wiring will be used to transfer the electricity from the
car batteries to the actuator and solenoid. The more conductivity the better.

Fig 4 – Power Transfer

Kevlar Mesh Tube

To protect the fragile wiring of the unit and its connectors, Kevlar mesh
tubing will be employed. With tensile strength five times that of steel per
unit weight and commonly used in protective ballistic proof clothing, it
shall protect the wires effectively.

2
Car Battery (x2)
Large voltage yet relatively light, car or truck batteries are perfect for
powering the construct. Once affixed to the aluminum frame, the power
packs will be manageable on one’s back.

Fig 6 – Power Supply

Liquid Nitrogen Cooling Pack

To reduce the heating properties of batteries under constant usage, a self-
contained liquid Nitrogen cooling assembly will be employed. This will
be inserted between the power pack and the user’s back.

Fig 7 – Power Management

Aluminum Framing
A lightweight aluminum frame will keep everything within the support unit
aligned and operating efficiently. It has the capacity of a modular unit,
where components are interchangeable.

Fig 8 – Modular Storage

Kevlar Lined Backpack (Support Unit)

The support unit will contain the power pack and cooling system for the
construct. A Kevlar lined unit is important, as damage to the internal
systems could cause major harm to the user.

Fig 9 – Power Protection

Magazine
A simple gravity-operated magazine will be employed and attached at the
base of the solenoid. This is used to inject the chamber with a sabot round
upon actuation.

Fig 10 – Ammunition Delivery

Actuator
To close the circuit and activate the electro-magnetic field that fires the
ballistic shell, a two-step actuator will be employed. One pull of the
trigger, closes the circuit at the base of the solenoid and loads a round into
the chamber.

3
Steel Sabot Round
The final component, yet possibly the most important, is the steel sabot
round that will be used as ammunition. Specific dimensions are required to
fit within the chamber, see diagram for lathe measurements.

Assembly

Stage 1: The Support Unit

Components: Aluminum Frame, Car Batteries, Kevlar Backpack, Nitrogen Cooling Pack, High
Capacity Wire.
Beginning with the support unit, please follow the below instructions in absolute detail.
1-A: Affix the Nitrogen Cooling Unit to the back of the Aluminum Frame,
ensuring that there is sufficient connection with the frame to render the unit rigid.

1-B: Insert and affix the first of the Car Batteries to the bottom of the Aluminum
Frame, with diodes facing upwards.
1-C: Place the second Car Battery above the first, with diodes facing downward.
Affix to Aluminum Frame.
WARNING: The following step will create a loose live wire – please be
very aware of the possibility of electrocution. Secure the loose ends of
the High Capacity Wire to a non-conductive surface before proceeding.
1-D: Now that the diodes of both Car Batteries are facing themselves, connect
High Capacity Wires to each. Beginning with the black diodes of both and
finishing with the red diodes of both.

4
1-E: Place assembly directly into Kevlar Backpack and feed wires through the
right or left side, depending on preference, approximately mid-breast height.

You have now created the Support Unit for your Rail Gun. You should have a Kevlar-lined
Backpack, filled with an Aluminum Frame, connected to two Car Batteries, a Nitrogen Cooling
Pack with two High Capacity Wires sticking out of your preferred side.

Stage 2: The Chamber

Components: Quarter Round, Glass Tube, Platinum Solenoid, Magazine, Actuator.

Stage 2 of these instructions allow you to create the firing chamber, be sure to follow the
instructions very carefully.
2-A: Use pre-rolled Platinum Solenoid to surround hollow Glass Tube.

5
2-B: Insert Glass Tube/Solenoid assembly into the length of Quarter Round.

2-C: Connect and affix Actuator and Magazine into pre-cut positions on Quarter Round
Assembly.

Stage 3: Connection, Power-Up, Operation

Components: Support Unit, Chamber Assembly, Kevlar Mesh Tubing, Magazine, Ammunition.
In this section, the recently assembled Chamber will be connected to the Support Unit and your
machine will be ready to use. Therefore, as above – follow all steps in order and to completion.
3-A: Run the High Capacity Wiring which protrudes from the Support Unit through the
Kevlar Mesh Tubing.

6
WARNING: The following step will power the Chamber. Electricity will
be flowing through the unit. Be absolutely certain that the Actuator is in
the off position and that the circuit is not closed at trigger, or that the
Magazine is empty of rounds and there is no ammunition in the Chamber.

3-B: Connect and tighten the High Capacity Wiring, those protruding from the Support
Unit and now surrounded in Kevlar Mesh Tubing, to the wiring at the rear end of the
Chamber.
3-C: Cover the newly bridged wiring with the Kevlar Mesh Tubing and affix it to the end
of the Chamber Assembly.

3-D: Remove Magazine and load with Steel Sabot Rounds or other desired ammunition and
return to unit.

Completion

Once the ammunition is loaded your Rail Gun is ready to be used. Continue to be aware of the
warnings and steps above to avoid injury to yourself or damage to the unit. Remember that this
assembly is not a toy and that damage to public or personal property or injury to other persons or
living things are still criminal offenses. In any respect congratulations on your new Rail Gun.
WARNING: Test firing the unit should be done in large outdoor areas.
Never test fire indoors. Shrapnel, ricochet or misfire are serious concerns.
