ACTIVITIES 1. M&M Icebreaker Activity – Pupils get into groups of 4 and pick out
PRE-LESSON one M&M candy at a time from an M&M packet. Each pupil speaks
on a range of tasks based on the colour of the M&M candy he/she
picks out.
RED – a memorable moment with your family that made you happy
ORANGE – an interesting fact about your family
YELLOW – a surprising fact about your family
GREEN – something sad that happened to your family
BLUE – a favourite pastime shared by your family members
BROWN – CHOOSE ANY ONE OF THE ABOVE TO SHARE ABOUT

LESSON 1. Each pupil is given a Post It slip.
DEVELOPMENT 2. In pairs, pupils ask their talk partner the first question in Task A

3. Pupils write on the Post It slip their response to the question. ‘Big
Family / Small Family’
4. Pupils stick the post it slips onto their badges.
5. Pupils group themselves into two groups with the help of the post it
slips.
6. In groups of 6, pupils answer the second question in Task A. (Sharing
experiences with each other)
Diff: LOW – Provide phrases to respond (‘I love…’, ‘I like…’)
7. Pupils comment on how they feel about being in big or small families
by sharing their opinions with different groups. (1 Stay, 5 Stray)
Diff: LOW – Provide relevant words (happy, sad)
MID / HIGH – Justify their answers.
While 2
1. Pupils complete Task B.
2. In pairs, pupils complete a Jigsaw Speaking activity to complete a
crossword puzzle.

While 3
1. In groups of 6, each pupil is given a sentence from Task C.
2. Pupils play a game of Charades to guess the words in the box and
compete their sentences.
3. Pupils paste the sentence strips onto a piece of paper.
4. Pupils move to different groups to conduct peer assessment. (Focus
on spelling and accuracy)
5. The group that gets the most accurate answers is rewarded.

1. Pupils are given a PMI (Plus, Minus, Interesting) template. Pupils pair
up with a talk partner to communicate and complete the PMI
POST LESSON template regarding their summaries of the lesson.
2. Lollipop Sticks – pupils are chosen to share their PMI information.
