Damien Rice

This is such a great song for a duet. The lead part is

simple strumming- all basic chords (+ hammer ons). The
harmony in the song is actually on a cello, but pretty
much any instrument can still work- particularly bass
or piano in my opinion. Listen to the song for the
rhythm of the second part (currently available at
yahoo music for free listening)

D|----2----2----0---3---3----2--2---
A|----0----0----2---3---3----3--2---
E|----0----0----3---1---1----0--0---

Harmony (written for bass) plays pretty much

continuously except during bridge. Ad-libbing
really can spice up the song too.

Title: I Remember
Artist: Damien Rice
Album: "0"
tabbed by: Alan Tormey (iwascaughtlooking@yourmom.com)

In my opinion, this song is probably the best on the album and I'll
tab it as best I can. But I am not Damien, and therefore this is
not 100% accurate. This is just a guide on how to play the song. So
just play around with it and do whatever sounds good to you. Again,
I want to apologise to Damien if I completely butcher this song.

** Important: Capo on 2nd fret throughout the whole song**

Lisa's Part

This song is in two parts. The first is sung by Lisa and is played
with a folk type feel to it. In parts of this tab you'll have to add
a lot of notes as it's just a basic guide to the song. So just play
out
the notes of the chord in time with the CD until it sounds right.

I Remember it well .....

The rest of Lisa's part continues similar to this although it slows

down in parts to link to Damien's part

Damien's Part

The second part of the song is sung by Damien and is much easier to
play than Lisa's because it's mostly strumming.

Below I have tabbed out the chords used in this part.

You'll have to work out the timing for the hammer-ons/pull-offs
yourself.

Am F F G Am E
e:-----------0--------1--/--3-----

B:----0h1----1--------1--/--3-----

Repeat this part

When the cello kicks in it mirrors part of the melody from Lisa's
part.
I think Damien plays it live sometimes but I'm not sure. Keep
strumming
but try to include the hammer-ons and individual notes below in time
with the cello.

Older chests reveal themselves

Like a crack in a wall
Starting small, and grow in time
And we always seem to need the help
Of someone else
To mend that shelf
Too many books
Read me your favourite line

Papa went to other lands

And he found someone who understands
The ticking, and the western man's need to cry
He came back the other day, you know
Some things in life may change
And some things
They stay the same

Like time, there's always time

On my mind
So pass me by, I'll be fine
Just give me time

Older gents sit on the fence

With their cap in hand
Looking grand
They watch their city change
Children scream, or so it seems,
Louder than before
Out of doors, and into stores with bigger names
Mama tried to wash their faces
But these kids they lost their graces
And daddy lost at the races too many times
She broke down the other day, yeah you know
Some things in life may change
But some things they stay the same

Like time, there's always time

On my mind
So pass me by, I'll be fine
Just give me time
Time, there's always time
On my mind
Pass me by, I'll be fine
Just give me time

G D* C Em Am or Am

Damien hammers on the fifth fret on the G string (woo-hoo!) for the
main G chord.
He does this a lot with other chords too, so if you can squeeze it in
anywhere else, I?d
say go for it.

G
You keep me in a glass jar sealed with a label

D*
You think you know my world

G D*
Wake up young girl, you've got a lot to learn

G
My love, my life, my work, my time

D*
I give them all to you

G
Your hand in minem, we walk, we talk in ryhme

D*
We go the whole night through

Am D*
I'm not a grain of sand

Am
I don't care what's written in your hand

C D*
It's bound to change

G
Sore, bored, and I'm lost, cost, cold, getting older

Em
Wrap it up, rip it up now, have it sold, cos I'm a grower

Am
Any more, any more, any more, any more...

C
I wanna be with you

D*
Just wanna be with you

(Same chords as above, mostly G ? D*)

But you tease me
And it shows in the way that you play
You think you know my love
Wake up young girl
And take a taste
Not a bite of a life now
Can tell you never come, yeah well

My will, my mind, my lips, my lines

I've got them all over you
Your taste combined
With all the years of wasted time
I've got to hold on something new

(same as above)
I'm not a grain of sand
I don't care what's written in your hand
It's bound to change

Sore bored, and I'm lost cost, cold Getting older

Buy the book, rip it up now
Have it sold, I'm a grower
Any more, any more, any more, any more...
I wanna be with you
Just wanna be with you

C
But I don't wanna pray for what is not right

G (don?t let the low E-string sound here ie without the root/bass of
the chord)
And I don't wanna beg for what is not mine

Am D*
I don't wanna run the road between dreams and worldly things

C G (again no low E-string)

I could charge, I could really try
Am
But I don't wanna be the brave one

D*
In a senseless fight

C D* Em
No I?.. I??. I?????

C D*
I just wanna be here tonight

Sore bored, and I'm lost, cost, cold

Getting older
Wrap the book, rip it up now
Have it sold
I'm a grower
Any more, any more, any more, any more...
I wanna be with you Just wanna be with you

So I'm bored, and I'm a lost cause, cold

Getting older
Buy the book, rip it up now
Have it sold
I'm a grower

Am
Any more, any more, any more, any more...

C G
Any more, any more, any more, any more...

'Cause shes only just gone
Why the *** is this day taking so long
I was a lover of time and once she was mine
I was a lover indeed, I was covered in weed
Cried when she should and she laughed when she could
Well closer to god is the one who's in love
And I walk away cause I can
Too many options may kill a man
Loving is fine if it's not in your mind
But I've ***ed it up now, too many times
Loving is good if it's not understood
Yeah, but I'm the professor
And feel that I should know
What makes her come and what makes her stay?
What make the animal run, run away and
What makes him tick apart from him prick
And the lonelier side of the jealousy stick
I don't know, I don't know, I don't know
No I don't know, I don't know, I don't know
No I don't know, I don't know, I don't know
Hell I don't know you any more
No, no, no no...

Well I don't know if I'm wrong

'Cause she's only just gone
Here's to another relationship
Bombed by my excellent breed of gamete disease
I finished it off with some French wine and cheese

La fille danse
Quand elle joue avec moi
Et je pense que je l'aime des fois
Le silence, n'ose pas dis-donc
Quand on est ensemble
Mettre les mots
Sur la petite dodo

C x 3 2 0 1 0
B/Am x 2 0 0 1 0
Am (0)0 2 2 1 0
F 1(3)3 2 1 1
Fmaj7 1 x 3 2 1 0 (use thumb on low E string)
G6 3 x 5 4 3 0 (")
Am6/9 5 7 7 5 0 0
E7 0 2 0 1 3 0

There you go. Some weird chords, but not too hard. Just a pretty
standard walking bass progression for most of the song, a la Paul
Simon's "America".

Rice does some hammering on and off (A to G to A on the F chords -

middle finger, and a similar middle finger thing with the E in the C
chord.)

This is a really pretty song by the amazing Mr Damien Rice, it

doesn't appear on the O album, I think it was just a side song that
he played live a few times, maybe it will appear on his next album,
anyway it is really easy to play :)
You can download it at a number of Damien fan sites, including
