1 DISCLAIMER

This document is published as a guide for the inspection, maintenance and repair of the Type
CES 3000 Hyperbaric Fire Extinguisher. Divex assumes no liability for any claims resulting
from the use of the equipment. The equipment is to be used in accordance with applicable
national regulations and user policies.

2 PRE-DIVE CHECKS

Prior to every dive the extinguisher should be visually examined.

2.1 Check there is no damage to the pressure gauge, trigger valve, discharge nozzle or
cylinder.

2.2 Ensure the cylinder charge pressure is between 60 and 75 bar and that the security pin
is in place.

IF ANY ABNORMALITIES ARE APPARENT, SEND THE UNIT FOR REPAIR.

3 RECHARGING

Ensure the extinguisher is completely discharged.

3.1 Remove the discharge hose from the trigger valve and remove the trigger valve from
the cylinder.

3.2 Remove the jointing compound from the trigger valve and cylinder threads, and rinse
the cylinder and trigger valve with fresh water.

3.3 Pour in one 60 ml bottle of extinguishant solution, Part No. CES 201 and add 1940 ml
fresh water (3% mix, total 2 litres).

3.4 Clean the trigger valve O-ring and seat with a dry lint-free cloth, and lightly lubricate the
O-ring with DOW CORNING III silicone compound.

3.5 Apply jointing compound (Part No. 2192) to the trigger valve threads, install the trigger
valve and hand-tighten firmly. Do not overtighten.

3.6 Connect the recharging hosewhip assembly, Part No. CES-F221 to the HP charging
gas cylinder (helium or nitrogen) and close the vent valve. Hold the fire extinguisher
trigger valve open and carefully charge the extinguisher to 70 bar. Ensure that the
extinguisher’s pressure gauge reads within ± 7% of the charging whip gauge. If not,
replace the gauge.

NOTE

Due to the affect of adiabatic heating, the extinguisher pressure will drop slightly as the
cylinder cools after charging. Top up as required.

3.7 Vent and disconnect the charging hosewhip and check the extinguisher for leaks.

3.8 Install the security pin.

3.9 Install the discharge hose, hose adaptor and gasket, ensuring the gasket is in good
condition and tighten all fittings securely. Replace the gasket if necessary, Part No.
1835.

3.10 Record the recharge date and technician’s name on the maintenance record label.

3.11 The extinguisher is now ready for use.

4 ANNUAL MAINTENANCE

4.1 Functions test the extinguisher by discharging and measuring discharge time and
distance. Discharge time should be between 7 and 10 seconds and discharge distance
should be a minimum of 6 metres.

4.2 Ensure the extinguisher is completely discharged and remove the trigger valve.

4.3 Examine the extinguisher valve assembly for apparent mechanical or corrosion
damage to the pressure gauge, valve mechanism and discharge nozzle. Ensure the
discharge lever can move freely and that no part of the mechanism has been
damaged. If damaged, replace with new.

4.4 Ensure that the security pin can be easily inserted and withdrawn.

4.5 Examine the cylinder internal surfaces in accordance with BS 5430 Part 3 or an
equivalent recognised standard. Check for excessive radial pitting at the waterline or
corrosion damage to the neck thread.

4.6 Replace the trigger valve O-ring, Part No. 02529 as required. Lightly lubricate with
DOW CORNING III silicone compound.

4.7 The extinguisher is now ready for recharging. Refer to Recharging Instructions
paragraph 3.

5 FIVE-YEARLY MAINTENANCE

In addition to the procedures described for annual maintenance, the following should be
carried out every fifth year.

5.1 Hydrostatically test the cylinder every five years in accordance with BS EN 1802:2002,
or IMCA D018, or in accordance with an equivalent recognised standard.

5.2 Repaint the cylinder if required, using a two-part epoxy paint. Replacement label
ordering information:

• Instructions For Use label, Part No. 01838

• Maintenance Instructions label, Part No. 01839
• Maintenance Record label, Part No. 01837

WARNING
POWDER COATING OF ALUMINIUM CYLINDERS

Under no circumstances is the fire extinguisher cylinder to be epoxy powder coated

or given any other coating which involves heat curing. Heat will compromise the
temper of the aluminium alloy and could result in catastrophic failure of the cylinder.

5.3 Calibrate the contents pressure gauge.
