Upgrade overview
This manual covers upgrading from ActixOne Version 2.1.1 to Version 3.0. If you
want to upgrade from a version earlier than 2.1.1, refer to the previous upgrade
manuals.
Database migration is likely to take two to four hours, during which time the
system will be unavailable. Other components may be installed and configured
during the database migration.
Database migration is followed by a staged system re-start and sanity check. The
system is then brought back on line.

Summary
Use the following table for quick access to important topics about upgrading from
ActixOne Version 2.1.1 to ActixOne Version 3.0. You must upgrade the various
parts of ActixOne in the order listed in the table.

Back up and record details of the current

installation
You must back up the following:

The database

The processing node settings

Spotlight settings, if Citrix-hosted Spotlight is used

Customer-specific configuration files for the Jboss-based and Apache-based

middleware
Although you will create disc images of each host computer, you will save a lot of
time if you also take note of—and back up—crucial configurations and settings.

Review customer-specific configurations

1 Look out for customer-specific settings, such as:

 Authentication, simple or using LDAP

 Connection, basic or SSL

 Load-balancing

 ActixOne IP ports

 Customized settings files accessed by pipelines

 JBoss settings from the client

(using the Admin > Settings Editor page)
2 Determine whether all or some host computers use 32-bit or 64-bit
operating systems.
3 Note changes made to files—for example, httpd.
4 If the customer uses Citrix-hosted Spotlight, make a note of any non-
default data retention times. You will need these to verify that the upgrade
did not change any of the data retentions times. The default value is 1095
days. A procedure for examining retention times is set out as part of step 3
on page 17.
5 The network data ETL uses customer-specific scripts. Ensure that you can
use the Version 2.1.1 scripts with ActixOne Version 3.0.
6 Note the schedule times for the network data ETL file router.

Upgrading ActixOne from V2.1.1 to V3.0 8

Back up the database

Back up all database schemas prior to starting this upgrade.
Normally a routine backup can be used rather than making a special backup—
liaise with the database or system administrator.

Note Recovery from a backup is the only supported

way to reverse a database upgrade.

Back up Spotlight and the processing node settings

1 Create a backup directory in a location not influenced by the upgrade.
2 From the computers hosting both Spotlight and the survey data processing
node or nodes, copy the following file to the backup directory:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\ 
Application Data\Actix\

Record the ActixOne Web platform setup

On the computer hosting the Apache-based middleware, record the contents of
the Actix One – Web Platform Set Up page.
You can access the page from a Web browser on the computer hosting the
Apache-based middleware. Use the URI:
http://127.0.0.1:8081/deployhtml/setup.php

Back up customer-specific settings

1 Back up the file context.ini.
context.ini is located here:
C:\ActixOne\apps\config
2 Back up the file config.xml.
By default, context.ini is located here:
C:\ActixOne\apps\config\analysisconfig
config.xml is located in a directory determined by the
AnalysisConfigFile parameter in context.ini.
3 Make a note of the WMS Server, and Map Layer Configuration under
Benchmarking (see the relevant Admin pages).
4 Back up the files listed in the following table:

Shut down ActixOne

Before you start the upgrade, perform the following initial procedures:
1 Ensure that any pending survey data has been loaded into ActixOne.
2 Ensure that any required network data sources are loaded.
3 Stop the network data ETL file router. See Stopping the file router in the
ActixOne Network data ETL Manual.
4 Make a note of all active pipelines and system nodes—you will need to
reactivate them after the upgrade.
5 Deactivate all active pipelines.
6 Deactivate all system nodes.
7 On the processing node computer(s), open Windows Task manager and
locate all processingNode.exe processes. If a processingNode.exe
process is running and the CPU column shows 00, select the process and
click End Process.
8 Shut down the processing nodes:

 On the processing node computer(s), open Services. (Start 

Administrative Tools  Computer Management  Services
and Applications  Services).

 Locate and stop AxaWatchDog.

 Open Windows Task Manager.

 Locate all Analyzer.exe and axaWatchDog.exe processes. If any

are running, select the process and click End Process.
9 Stop access to Citrix:

 Have all current users log off Citrix.

 Temporarily set up Citrix to disallow all logon attempts.

You will need to permit logon attempts after the upgrade.
10 Stop the drive test loading service (orchestrator).
Allow up to 20 minutes for PHP script processes to finish.
11 Stop database jobs.
During the upgrade, inhibit any scheduled database jobs, or backups.

Edition 4 9 April 2010 www.actix.com

Upgrading ActixOne from V2.1.1 to V3.0 11

Note You must analyze the implications of inhibiting

scheduled jobs and plan appropriate action. For
example, if you disable the end-of-week partitioning
job, you must manually run the job after you restore
the database. If you disable a job scheduled to run
nightly, you may decide to manually run the job after
the upgrade in the knowledge that the next night’s
scheduled run will fail with no ill effect.

12 Stop the JBoss-based and Apache-based middleware. From the command

prompt, run:

 net stop actixonejboss

 net stop actixone
13 Create a disc image of each computer hosting:

 The Network Data ETL

 The JBoss-based middleware

 The Apache-based middleware

 The survey data processing node or nodes.

 Citrix-hosted Spotlight
Do not include large data files or log file repositories in the images.
14 Remove the ActixOne JBoss service using the command:

 %JBOSS_HOME%\bin\wrapper.exe –r 
%JBOSS_HOME%\server\YOURCONFIG\wrapper\wrapper.conf

Edition 4 9 April 2010 www.actix.com

Upgrading ActixOne from V2.1.1 to V3.0 12

Upgrade the database

To upgrade the database, follow these steps:
1 If the middle tier is running during the upgrade, prevent remote access to
the listener by adding the following lines to Oracle configuration file
sqlnet.ora on the database host:
# sqlnet.ora
# the following prevents remote access via the
# listener
# use "lsnrctl reload" to refresh the listener
TCP.VALIDNODE_CHECKING=yes
TCP.INVITED_NODES=(localhost)

2 Follow the procedure set out in Upgrading an existing database in the

ActixOne Database Release Bulletin.
3 Apply the technology pack patches as required for the customer. For more
information, see the ActixOne Core Technology Pack and the ActixOne
Ericsson Core Technology Pack documents.
4 For at least one week after completion of the upgrade, monitor the
database housekeeping event log to verify that scheduled database
management tasks actually run. To learn about scheduled database tasks
and the event log, see Database scheduling and Monitoring in the ActixOne
Database Housekeeping Guide.
