Preliminary Design Stage (Planning Stage)

a. Develop the detailed civil and structural design brief with the Client.
b. Attend regular Client Consultant Meetings (CCMs).
c. Liaise with the Architect to obtain full design brief/criteria, to agree on material use and
general construction form.
d. Prepare framing plans in sketch form for coordination with the Client’s Consultants.
e. Based on the above items, prepare superstructure framing plans with member sizes and
estimates of reinforcement rates so that the Quantity Surveyor may produce a
preliminary cost plan.
f. Liaise with the other Consultants appointed by the Client with regard to the implications
of the adopted structural framing; provide solutions as required, to be reflected in the
framing plans.

Detailed Design Stage (Building Plan and Tender Drawings)

a. Carry out detailed structural engineering design and calculations.


b. Prepare detailed structural drawings and specifications for tender and Building Plan
submission.
c. Provide details to other Consultants.
d. Liaise with other Consultants to develop a coordinated design.
e. Design and detail all non-typical areas of the works in addition to the general framing
plans (for sub-structure, super-structure and C&S works only).
f. Submit plans as necessary to all relevant Local Authorities for approval and coordinate
submission with specialist and/or Consultants on related works.

Tender Stage

a. Participate in the tender interview and make recommendations.

Construction Stage

a. Attend Site/ Client Consultants Meetings.


b. Review and comment on Contractor’s shop drawings, temporary works designs and
drawings and material submissions, and assess for compliance to the specifications and
design requirements.
c. Provide supervision (fee does not include the site staff which are compulsory by local
authority and must be paid separately by the client as stipulated in item 7.0 Site
Supervision) as required during construction to ensure conformance of the works with
the drawings, specifications etc. Report to the Client any area of non-compliance
immediately on discovery.
d. Agree testing proposals and inspection duties with Resident Engineer who will witness
and approve tests, reject or approve construction.
e. Deliver to the Client, on completion of the works, records of works (such as as-builts as
provided by the Main Contractor) as constructed.
